PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award – Premier League nominees for October

With the passing of Halloween, the spookiest period of the campaign is now over, and it was a month that certainly saw a few Premier League defenders receive a fright from some of the division’s best forwards.

Dangerous attackers such as Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez both hit hat-tricks in Leicester’s 9-0 win over Southampton on 25th October, ensuring that the Saints suffered an early Halloween scare six days before the big day.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace maintained their impressive campaign so far with a 2-2 draw against Arsenal, a game in which Granit Xhaka made the headlines for all the wrong reasons after his unprofessional gestures to the Emirates crowd.

Forget individual outbursts and collective efforts for a moment though – let’s take a look at the individuals nominated for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award for October…

Jack Grealish

Aston Villa’s captain enjoyed an impressive October in which he started to finally look at home in the Premier League.

Grealish netted a goal in the 5-1 demolition of Norwich at Carrow Road, while also proving to be the decisive influence in the 2-1 win over Brighton at Villa Park – the Villans No.10 scored the equaliser, and then set up Matt Targett’s stoppage-time winner.

David Silva

The experienced Manchester City playmaker scored two goals in three Premier League games throughout October.

Silva scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, and then found the back of the net once again in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Ricardo Pereira

The Portuguese right-back has enjoyed an excellent campaign so far, continuing his fine 2018/19 form that saw him record eight goal involvements in the league.

Pereira didn’t actually score or assist in October, although he played a starring role in the 2-1 win over Burnley and in the aforementioned 9-0 win at St Mary’s.

Adama Traore

The mercurial Wolves wide man helped his side remain unbeaten throughout October, with some vital contributions.

Traore, formerly of Barcelona, scored both goals in the eye-catching 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and also played every minute of the following 1-1 draws against Southampton and Newcastle.

Jamie Vardy

Leicester’s No.9 scored his seventh, eight and ninth Premier League goals of the campaign in the rout over Southampton, and also netted the winning goal in the 2-1 win over Burnley before the trip to St Mary’s.

Vardy now has nine goals in 10 league appearances this season.

Christian Pulisic

The USA international impressed throughout October for Chelsea, to say the least.

Pulisic – a USA international – started the month with an assist for Michy Batshuayi in the 4-1 win against Southampton, before playing a cameo role in the 1-0 win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.

His most impressive showing came in the last league outing of the month though, when he scored a perfect hat-trick at Turf Moor in the 4-0 win over Burnley.

Leeds fans express concerns after Luke Ayling signs new deal

The contract news has yet again rolled out of Elland Road. In previous weeks Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper signed new terms but now it’s Luke Ayling putting pen to paper.

Leeds confirmed the news on their Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon in the build-up to last night’s clash against West Brom.

Ayling played his first minutes under Marcelo Bielsa this term on Monday night but not playing before then doesn’t look as though it’s become an issue in negotiations.

The right-back played 40 times for Leeds last term and was an influential figure but concerns have still been expressed over his new contract.

Many supporters took to Twitter to discuss the announcement from the club as one declared they weren’t thrilled by all the long-term plans.

A further individual said the Whites were setting themselves up for problems in a few years while another said it was a tad crazy.

The 28-year-old has recently just stepped up his recovery from an injury by playing for the U23 side but he faces a job to get back into Bielsa’s plans.

Dallas has had an excellent term himself, one that’s seen him bag against Stoke and achieve an average match rating of 7.04 prior to the visit of the Baggies.

Here’s some of the debate.

Leeds’ Tyler Roberts comments on Kemar Roofe’s Instagram post after debut

The former Leeds forward stated that his debut was a dramatic affair, and he wasn’t wrong.

Anderlecht struggled to get past second-tier outfit Beerschot Wilrijk, but in the end they overcame them, winning 3-2 in extra time.

Roofe didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet on his debut, but he was victorious.

The forward is seemingly still friendly with a few of his ex-Leeds teammates, as Tyler Roberts took to the comments section to congratulate the attacker on his return from injury.

Some Leeds fans are bound to feel emotional seeing the youngster interacting with Roofe on Instagram after his debut.

Liverpool fans are shocked Roberto Firmino lost out on award to Mo Salah

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool have named Mo Salah as their August Player of the Month in a decision which has caused uproar amongst the fans.

Typically, there were a few stand-out performers for the Reds over the last few weeks. Virgil van Dijk was his consistent self whilst Adrian filled in for the injured Alisson without fuss and even proved to be an Anfield hero through his Super Cup antics.

However, Roberto Firmino is the player who many fans think is the worthy winner, and his two goals and two assists in four Premier League games is evidence that their view is a reasonable one.

By comparison, Salah struck three times in the same period, one of which was a penalty, and although an outstanding solo goal may have influenced the decision, he also came under fire for his failure to pass when his teammates were in a promising position against Burnley.

Furthermore, of the Reds squad only the Brazilian was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month, and therefore the fans’ dismay, as shown below, is to be expected.

West Brom’s home form looking eerily similar to Darren Moore’s tenure, according to Ged Scott

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has been criticised by BBC Sport journalist Ged Scott as their lack of results at the Hawthorns continued on Wednesday night.

What’s he said?

The Baggies are unbeaten after four Championship games this season but their only win has come away from home – at Luton last weekend.

It echoes the start former boss Darren Moore had to the year when West Brom went six games without victory at home before he was ultimately sacked.

Under caretaker Jimmy Shan, the club went on to win five successive Championship matches on the bounce as they went on to make the playoffs with a fourth-place finish.

On the matter, Scott said:

“It really is hard to fathom West Bromwich Albion’s home form in 2019.

“One of the prime factors in Darren Moore’s departure in March was the Baggies’ untimely run of six games without a home win.

“Now this season under Slaven Bilic, it’s as you were again.

“Two away wins so far. And 0 out of 2 at home. And tonight’s contest is already shaping up to be the same.”

Hawthorns form must be eradicated

Although it’s not a pressing concern, seeing as there have only been two home league games – both resulting in a 1-1 draw, it is something that the Croatian will have to eradicate otherwise he may face the same fate as his predecessor.

The Baggies are unbeaten so things can’t be too disastrous but patience may be required before Bilic is able to finally settle on his first-choice starting XI.

A quartet of players arrived on deadline day, all of which are likely to play huge parts this season.

Charlie Austin joins Kenneth Zohore in their attacking ranks and will surely be influential to their season having scored 66 goals in 130 Championship appearance in his career.

Though, he has hardly had a pre-season after being frozen out by his former boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Whilst three wingers accompanied the 30-year-old on deadline day with two of them featuring already this season.

Thogden ranks all 24 Championship home kits in the video below…

Grady Diangana practically won West Brom the game against Luton, coming on as a substitute to turn the game around with his brace.

And Matheus Pereira has impressed despite featuring as a substitute on three occasions.

Meanwhile, Chris Willock has been getting minutes for the U23 squad in preparation for this season.

Once these players are fully embedded amongst the first team, the likelihood of the squad clicking will increase as Bilic will be able to call upon a more settled starting XI and as they still remain unbeaten, there shouldn’t be many concerns for the time being.

Juan Mata and Joel Pereira reply to Nemanja Matic’s Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United’s stay in the land down under is slowly coming to its conclusion.

After a day off for some much-needed rest and recovery on Sunday, the Red Devils are now once again in full training mode ahead of their final Australia challenge against Leeds United.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday and the team then flies out to Singapore, where they will continue their 2019 pre-season tour.

But for now, they are still doing their sessions in Perth and if Nemanja Matic’s latest

/Bz70dN5n0SY/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap is anything to go by, the players enjoyed a head-tennis competition in training, one that the Serbian’s side was clearly victorious in.

The snap depicted the mini-tournament champions in good spirits after the game, but not everyone was pleased with the results.

One of the defeated players was Joel Pereira, and he just posted a series of emojis showing how he felt about the loss.

Others, like Juan Mata, were also replying to the snap, but clearly with a lot of love after joining Matic in victory.

Fans will surely be glad to see the players in high spirits ahead of what is a huge campaign, but the results to begin the season will reveal just how effective Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pre-season strategies have been.

Liverpool fans react after hilarious clip of Luis Suarez goes viral

[ad_pod ]

Oh Luis Suarez, just never stop being you. Whether you love him or you hate him, the Uruguayan is pure box-office when it comes to what he does on the pitch. But sometimes it’s not an acrobatic volley or a thunderbolt from the edge of the area. Sometimes it’s trying to claim handball off a goalkeeper, from inside the penalty area.

Yes, you read that right. The Barcelona superstar was involved in Copa America action against Chile on Monday night and in a clip posted on Twitter, the 32-year-old gets to the by-line inside the box and sees his clipped cross come off the glove of Chile shot-stopper Gabriel Alias.

His reaction? He immediately calls for a handball offence before it dawns on him seconds later that he’s read the rulebook all wrong.

The hilarious clip understandably got a lot of Liverpool fans to flood to Twitter to post their responses. Some of them were ruthless about their former Anfield star, who will do absolutely anything to win – just ask poor Asamoah Gyan or Giorgio Chiellini.

Some jokingly sided with Suarez over his claims for a penalty and insisted that only “haters” would deny that it wasn’t a spot-kick.

Others certainly took the banter up a notch and simply suggested the Uruguayan was rather helpfully pointing out what part of the goalkeeper he would be “feasting” on next.

Check out some of the amusing reaction of Liverpool fans below:

Leeds must give Kalvin Phillips whatever he wants

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Reports from Football Insider have stated that Kalvin Phillips has rejected Leeds’ contract offer as it is a long way off what he is expecting.

The 23-year-old was one of the most important players for Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season, but his performances on the pitch aren’t the only reason Leeds need to keep him.

What’s the story?

It was reported towards the end of last week that the Whites were readying a new contract for their star man, but now it seems that it has been rejected.

Of course, Phillips is one of Leeds’ best players. He earned himself a spot in the EFL’s Team of the Season, and he has gained admiration from a number of Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Fans would be fuming

There is a real possibility that the midfielder will join Dean Smith’s side this summer, but Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani can’t afford to let that happen.

Leeds have already sold Pontus Jansson this summer, and there are also reports that Kemar Roofe could be on his way out. The confirmed exit and the rumoured exit have infuriated the fanbase, and taking a look at the supporters’ reactions when Phillips was linked with a move away shows that news of his sale would bring about a similar meltdown.

The Elland Road faithful are amongst the most loyal and supportive fans in the entire country, but if they lose Phillips you could completely understand if they turned on Radrizzani and his right-hand man.

Indeed, Leeds must throw whatever they can at Phillips to try and persuade him to stay at the club this summer, or else the men in charge face serious backlash from the fanbase if they sell yet another key player.
