A torcida do Palmeiras não consegue conter o entusiasmo com a proximidade da conquista do título do Campeonato Brasileiro. Nesta última terça-feira, milhares de torcedores do Alviverde compareceram ao Aeroporto de Congonhas, em São Paulo, para apoiar a delegação do Verdão antes do embarque para Belo Horizonte, onde a equipe enfrentará o Atlético-MG, pela 35ª rodada do Brasileirão.

Após a euforia, que contou com a participação dos atletas e também de membros da comissão técnica, os torcedores ainda demoraram para deixar o local. Assim como os fanáticos palestrinos, outras torcidas já ‘invadiram’ aeroportos pelo Brasil em sinal de apoio aos seus clubes. Confira alguns exemplos na galeria!

Xisco Munoz’s Watford side head into their weekend fixture having already secured promotion to the Premier League, but know that only a win will maintain their hopes of clinching the Championship title.

Having beaten Millwall 1-0 last time out, Watford remain five points behind the Championship leaders Norwich City in the race for the first place.

While a Norwich win would make it mathematically impossible for the Hornets to be in with a chance of clinching the title on the final day of the season, Xisco will still be hoping for a victory against Brentford at the Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

So, will the Spaniard make any changes to his starting XI last time out? Here’s our predicted XI, along with the latest team and injury news…

Considering the fact that the title is still to be played for, as well as the challenge of Brentford not being an easy one – with Thomas Frank’s side undefeated over their last 10 league games – we expect Xisco to field a strong XI, making two changes from his starting line-up against Millwall.

Firstly, Kiko Femenia – who was withdrawn 31 minutes into the Millwall clash due to injury – is replaced by Craig Cathcart at right-back, with the 32-year-old putting in a solid performance  during his hour-long runout against Gary Rowett’s side.

The second change sees Dan Gosling drop out of the XI, with 26-year-old Philip Zinckernagel coming in as the third central midfielder, as none of Gosling, Carlos Sanchez or Nathaniel Chalobah particularly impressed against the Lions.

The front three remains untouched, with Joao Pedro retaining his centre-forward berth ahead of Andre Gray.

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell is excited about the prospect of Leeds United signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa could have a busy time of things in the next transfer window, improving his squad further and attempting to take the Whites to the next level.

One player with whom they have been linked is Maitland-Niles, who is currently on loan at West Brom from Arsenal, making 11 appearances for the Baggies this season.

Campbell tips Maitland-Niles to shine at Leeds

Someone who believes the five-cap England international would be a good signing for Leeds is Campbell, who talked up to the move to Football Insider:

“I think he is definitely someone who could fit into that team. He has good energy, a good engine and a lot of ability on the ball. The other big plus is that he can play in multiple positions, which we know Bielsa likes.

“I think that could be a great signing for Leeds.”

While Maitland-Niles hasn’t necessarily made the strides some hoped he would in recent years, he remains an exciting young players with lots of potential. Still only 23, he already has 121 appearances to his name for Arsenal, showing that he can cut it at a big club at a young age.

Furthermore, he is capable of thriving on either flank as a wing-back, or providing energy and quality in central midfield, with his versatility something which could appeal to Bielsa.

There may be a slight risk element in signing Maitland-Niles given his inability to inspire West Brom to escape their relegation rut, but he can be signed on a free transfer after his Arsenal deal expires this summer, which makes him worth a punt.

تحدث توماس توخيل، المدير الفني لفريق تشيلسي الإنجليزي عن آخر التطوارات بشأن محادثات تجديد عقد المدافع الألماني أنطونيو روديجر.

وينتهي عقد روديجر مع تشيلسي بنهاية الموسم الجاري ويعد الألماني محل اهتمام لعدة أندية على رأسهما ريال مدريد وباريس سان جيرمان.

وأكد توخيل أثناء حديثه في المؤتمر الصحفي قبل مباراة توتنهام المقرر خوضها يوم الأحد المقبل، أن المحادثات جارية.

المدافع في الأشهر الستة الأخيرة من عقده في البلوز، مما يعني أنه يتمتع بحرية التحدث مع الأندية الأجنبية وتوقيع اتفاقية ما قبل العقد لمغادرة ستامفورد بريدج كوكيل حر في الصيف.

مع تعرض تشيلسي لخطر خسارة المدافع مقابل لا شيء في نهاية الموسم اعترف توخيل بأن المحادثات جارية في الوقت الحالي بين روديجر والنادي.

وقال توخيل في تصريحاته خلال المؤتمر والتي نشرها موقع “فوتبول لندن”: “المحادثات والمفاوضات جارية في الوقت الحالي، لا يوجد أخبار، نتحدث عن إذا، إذا حدث ذلك”.

وأضاف: “تعرفون كم كنت أثني عليه، ومدى أهميته، لقد قلت عدة مرات، المحادثات والمفاوضات جارية”.

منذ أن تولى توخيل زمام تدريب تشيلسي، رفع روديجر مستوى لعبه وبرز كواحد من أفضل اللاعبين في مركزه في الدوري الإنجليزي.

Leeds United have been handed a potential blow ahead of their Premier League clash against Fulham tonight with the news that Rodrigo could be missing.

The Spain international missed the entire month of February with a groin injury he had picked up in the 3-1 victory over Leicester, which saw him forced off early in the first half.

The £100,000-a-week ace only returned to first-team action when he came on against West Ham earlier this month, before being involved in one of those rare instances of being substituted after coming on as a substitute himself versus Chelsea.

Now, The Athletic’s Phil Hay has delivered some damaging news about that Leeds blow, revealing that Rodrigo is a “doubt with a fresh muscular problem”.

While it is a “doubt”, there is surely no way Marcelo Bielsa will want to risk Rodrigo potentially doing even more damage to his muscle and even tearing it by forcing him out onto the pitch against Fulham.

The Leeds boss will surely take a more reserved approach with a player who has only just come back from an injury, and that will no doubt mean Rodrigo misses out on today’s game.

After an impressive appearance against Arsenal earlier in the campaign, former Whites man Noel Whelan explained just how important Rodrigo is to this side, telling Football Insider: “He’s always looking for it, he’s never ever standing still, he’s always on the move and that’s what I like about him. He can’t be marked, he’s always looking for a space – very much the next Hernandez.

“He is a player that looks like he can make things happen. He’s very intelligent, he brings other people into play and makes space for them.”

Whelan also delivered his verdict on why the Spaniard should have started against Chelsea last week, saying: “If you ask 100 Leeds fans who they would prefer in that position, Rodrigo or Tyler Roberts, they would all say Rodrigo all day long.

“He’s your star signing, your record signing. He’s the one player that if he is fit then you’ve got to have him in your side to give you that extra opportunity. Roberts didn’t do anything wrong but I just think it brings a different dimension to the game when Rodrigo’s out there.”

It’s exactly why Bielsa must be worried at seeing the Spaniard go down with yet another injury and potentially missing another game for the Whites.

While he hasn’t exactly set Elland Road alight with his performances, he does perform that key role of joining Patrick Bamford in attack and offering a “different dimension” as Whelan says.

Meanwhile, Leeds must start this “rock” tonight…

After, what shows more shine or not is whether he’s able to do it on a regular basis. The set-pieces, he manages them very well.”Physically, he’s very apt. I can’t think of many more things to add to an attacking player, but the most important thing is how many times those resources are shown in every game.”Raphinha is shining in momentsIt is easy to say why Bielsa is discussing the consistency of the £16.2m-valued Raphina as, in his 21 league appearances (including three from the bench), the 24-year-old has picked up five goals and five assists (Transfermarkt), This is a fantastic return for a relatively young player in a new league with a promoted team, but these goals and assists have come in patches and he has sometimes had lean spells on that front.His underlying attacking stats show that he is unlucky not to have more goals, as he has averaged 2.3 shots, 2.1 key passes and 1.7 successful dribbles per game for the Whites (WhoScored), figures which rank him highly among his teammates – he is second for shots and top for key passes and dribbles among Leeds’ squad.These figures show that he can shine in moments, but they need to be converted into more goals if he is to answer his manager’s comments about producing on a regular basis.In other news, this Leeds transfer target could be available in the summer!

Newcastle United can afford to cash-in on Freddie Woodman during the January transfer window after Arsenal reportedly shortlisted the goalkeeper.

What’s the word?

According to football.london, the Gunners have placed Woodman on their shortlist of candidates to target this month as Technical Director Edu eyes options who can strengthen Mikel Arteta’s ranks between the sticks.

Arsenal signed Alex Runarsson to fill the void created by Emiliano Martinez’s move to Aston Villa last summer, but have not been totally impressed by the Iceland international after a string of shaky performances.

Matt Macey has also departed Arsenal to weaken their homegrown quota which a move for long-term target Woodman would help to resolve, having monitored the former England U21 international in 2018 and again throughout his initial loan spell with Swansea City last season.

Woodman is thought to fit the profile of who Arteta would like to see Arsenal sign in the mid-season market, with the Gunners chasing a shot-stopper who is also good with their feet, and could be attracted to a move to north London where his father is the Head of Under 23s Goalkeeping.

The 23-year-old is currently back on loan with Swansea having agreed to spend a second term in south Wales after penning a contract extension, which keeps Woodman tied down at St. James’ Park until 2023, having otherwise been a free agent at the end of this season.

He has been one of the second-tier’s top ‘keepers this term with 14 clean sheets in 23 games after shutting out Barnsley on Saturday, to move four clear of AFC Bournemouth’s Asmir Begovic in the race for the Golden Glove award.

Should NUFC sell Woodman?

Newcastle would be passing up on a top young goalkeeper by selling Woodman, yet can afford to cash-in on the £6.5m-rated star amid Arsenal’s renewed interest having seen Karl Darlow step up to the plate and deliver consistently this season.

Darlow had almost become the forgotten man on Tyneside, having not made a Premier League appearance in 951 days before starting the season-opener at West Ham United last September.

Since then, he has given Steve Bruce a real dilemma over who his first-choice goalkeeper is now that Martin Dubravka has returned from a pre-season heel injury, having not only kept three clean sheets in 17 top-flight games but produced key saves to keep the Magpies in fixtures when they have otherwise been humbled.

Particularly at Tottenham Hotspur, when given a 10/10 match rating by Chronicle Live, and again against Liverpool, Darlow stood out and is now seen to be making a case for earning a potential England call-up under Gareth Southgate.

Woodman is making a case for himself to be a future starter in the north-east with his efforts for Swansea, but that chance may be a few years out yet. Something he no doubt will refuse to accept, having had no interest in becoming Dubravka’s back-up last summer.

The situation ensured he left on loan once again, to join a side where manager Steve Cooper hails Woodman and Ian Mitchelmore, Swansea City correspondent for Wales Online, believes he is continually improving.

“[Woodman] has looked assured under the high ball, which was something he occasionally struggled with last season. Fans have been pleased with his attitude and his performances, and Woodman has built a strong rapport with the Swansea faithful, even with supporters still unable to attend matches,” Mitchelmore told Chronicle Live.

The arrival of Mark Gillespie in the previous transfer window has also given Bruce a third-choice goalkeeper to provide depth behind Darlow and Dubravka, now offering Newcastle Managing Director Lee Charnley further reason to urge Bruce to accept any offer from Arsenal that may come their way for Woodman this month.

AND in other news, a £2m-rated Newcastle target’s potential has been questioned by his current side.
