Real Madrid fans react negatively to Dani Carvajal’s Twitter post

It has been a long summer for Real Madrid and an even longer pre-season.

Los Blancos have definitely seen some better days lately but the start of the new 2019/20 La Liga campaign ended up not being so bad after all. They won their curtain-raiser against Celta Vigo away from home but then shared the spoils with Real Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Granted, this was not really what they probably had wished for but there were some positive takeaways for Zinedine Zidane and his troops.

But not everyone impressed in the opening two games in Spanish top-flight so far and it seems that one of the players fans aren’t too happy with is Dani Carvajal.

It would not be a stretch to say that Carvajal is an important player in Real Madrid’s setup as he was a part of their most-used 11 in La Liga last season, but the 27-year-old defender was rather harshly targeted by fans on one of his latest Twitter posts.

Below, you can see a collection of tweets showing the fans’ feelings about the right-back at this moment in time.

Rangers fans react as Andy King nears loan switch to Ibrox

Leicester City midfielder Andy King is on the brink of joining Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, but it’s not going down well with the fans.

The 50-cap Wales international is on the verge of becoming Gerrard’s tenth signing of the summer, as the Gers boss gets stuck into his second season in management.

King has been at Leicester his entire career, playing an impressive 375 times for the club, with 29 of those appearances coming as part of the side that won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season.

The greatest player ever to grace the Scottish Premiership is revealed in the video below…

The potential loan deal for the 30-year-old hasn’t been met particularly warmly by many of the supporters however.

The Light Blues have already brought in Joe Aribo, as well as welcoming Greg Docherty back from an impressive loan at Shrewsbury, and many fans aren’t sure that they really need another central midfielder this summer.

Another concern raised by the fans is his lack of games played in the past 24 months. The Welshman has featured just 31 times in the last two seasons and the fans aren’t happy signing an injury risk like King.

Here’s what the supporters had to say on Twitter about the potential deal…

Transfer Stories: Tuesday 23rd July

The end of another day means one less for the clubs around the world to seal the transfers that they hope will galvanise their teams ahead of the new season. Today has once again been busy, with statements released in regards to the future of star names and other interesting updates. Here, we take a look at five of the biggest stories that have broken over the last 24 hours.

The end is nigh for Gareth Bale at Real Madrid following Zinedine Zidane’s comments. The Wales international should be on the move this summer but not in a loan deal, according to his agent. The 30-year-old’s representative Jonathan Barnett told Sky Sports (Sky Sports Transfer Blog, 23/07, 10.48), “Gareth is one of the best players on the planet. I can guarantee you he will not be going on loan to any club”. The former Tottenham winger has been linked with a record-breaking move to China.

Up until now, the highest fee Newcastle United have ever paid for a player is roughly around £20m, but they have now broken that. Hoffenheim’s Joelinton has just joined the Magpies in a £40m deal, becoming the first signing of Steve Bruce’s reign.

With Federico Pastorello, Romelu Lukaku’s agent, confirming that the Belgium international wants a move away from Old Trafford this summer, a switch has looked likely. Internazionale have been the main side linked with 26-year-old but, after having their recent bid of £53.9m turned down by the Red Devils, the Serie A outfit have decided to distance themselves from a further approach. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are to reignite their interest in Edin Dzeko. They will also look to bring in Lille’s Rafael Leao, the report adds.

So far this summer, Manchester City have signed Rodri from Atletico Madrid and have brought left-back Angelino back to the Etihad. And, according to Sky Sports, there may soon be a new arrival at the Premier League champions. They are reporting that the Citizens are in talks with Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield in regards to 18-year-old Thiago Almada. The midfielder is understood to have a £16m release clause in his contract and has two years left on his current deal.

Manchester United have so far signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James this summer but, with the amount of names they have been linked with, it was always unlikely that they would be the only new players to arrive at Old Trafford before the start of next season. According to La Repubblica, they will be joined by Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Italian outlet is reporting that the two clubs have agreed a fee of €75m (£67.2m) for the Serbia international, plus bonuses. The 24-year-old is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Red Devils.

Transfer Focus: Ndombele is exactly the kind of squad refreshment Spurs need this summer

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a £50m move for Tanguy Ndombele this summer, according to The Sun.

What’s the story?

With Spurs not indulging in a single incoming transfer last season fans are craving investment in the team that reached the UEFA Champions League final.

There’s a feeling that with some key additions, Mauricio Pochettino’s team can be a real force on multiple fronts next term.

To that end, the club are looking to sign Ndombele say the paper, a Lyon midfielder who has been one of the stand-out talents on the continent over the last 12 months.

The report states that the Ligue 1 outfit are looking for around £70m for him in the upcoming transfer window but that Spurs are confident of landing the 22-year-old for around £50m.

With recruitment so important for the club over the next few months, is Ndombele the right kind of player they should be looking at?

Check out the video below to find out why Arsenal fans aren’t celebrating Spurs’ UCL final defeat as much as they’d like…

Where would he fit in?

With an elite attack and reasonably solid defensive line, the central midfield area is one of the weakest parts of the Spurs first-team.

Talents like Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama do have ability but have been unable to keep up with the ever increasing demands Pochettino has placed on his group of players.

Spurs have serious ambitions and need fresh ideas in the middle of the park to help make those ambitions a reality.

Ndombele has the quality and all-round output to provide both defensive stability and a dash of attacking prowess that would make both Dier and Wanyama obsolete.

Stellar all-rounder

That’s best demonstrated by the 5 foot 11 midfielder’s performance in the UEFA Champions League last season where he made eight appearances in total.

With an average of 2.4 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game in the competition you may think he had a focus on the more defensive side of the game, but that sells the French international short when you consider he was also completing an average 2.9 dribbles per game, 1.1 shots and even pitched in with two goals.

Those kind of numbers, both in defence and attack, are well beyond what Dier and Wanyama managed in the same competition.

If Spurs are to reach the next level in their progression they need players like Ndombele who can take control of a match and have an influence from box to box – a true link between defence and attack.

Currently, attacking stars like Harry Kane can look a little isolated from his teammates through the middle, never more so than in the recent final against Liverpool.

The Lyon man can solve that problem and that’s why a move for him makes so much sense this summer.

Pundit View: Charlie Nicholas tells Arsenal to release Shkodran Mustafi

[ad_pod ]

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has issued his verdict on what the club should do this summer, and he said centre-back Shkodran Mustafi “must be released”.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Gunners would have been confident they were getting a good player when they signed the impressive Germany international from Valencia in 2016, but it hasn’t proved to be the case.

The 27-year-old has repeatedly made errors and generally just doesn’t look comfortable at the heart of the north London outfit’s backline.

His disappointing displays haven’t gone unnoticed by Nicholas, who believes that Unai Emery needs to get rid this summer even if the player still has two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates.

He told Sky Sports: “Shkodran Mustafi must be released in my opinion.”

Check out an Arsenal fan vow to “move to another planet” if Spurs win the UCL in the video below…

Is he right?

If Arsenal want to boost their chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League next season, there is no doubt that they need to strengthen at centre-back.

While Sokratis has done a solid enough job, Laurent Koscielny is too old now, Nacho Monreal isn’t a natural central defender, and Konstantinos Mavropanos and Rob Holding are still young players who are yet to prove themselves on a consistent basis.

The Gunners need some stability and a calm head during the 2019/20 campaign, and Mustafi is so far away from being that.

He appears to strike fear into the crowd and his teammates with some of his decision-making and poor positioning, and that simply isn’t good enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

As Nicholas hints at, the north London outfit should be looking to move the 27-year-old during the summer transfer window, but they will surely struggle to get anywhere near the in excess of £35m fee they paid for him three years ago.

Celtic: Poaching free agent Adam Maher would make Hoops a creative force

Celtic fans, how does it feel to be treble-treble winners then? What an achievement, to be the undisputed best of the best in Scotland isn’t easy, and if they’re to go another year and make it four straight trebles this summer’s business will need to be meticulous. One move they can’t afford to miss is that of Adam Maher, the Dutchman available on a free this summer.

The Dutch midfielder is set to become a free agent for the second time in his career at the end of his current deal with Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar, but the Dutchman is far too good to be without a club and he could add some real creative firepower to the Glasgow side. A Transfermarkt valuation of £3.6 million and a return of two goals and five assists pulling the strings from deep for AZ is mightily impressive.

The report that has linked Neil Lennon’s Celtic with a move for the midfield man has come from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf and if you’re a Celtic fan it will be hard not to get excited over this one. It may be easy to think Maher isn’t all that as his contract with AZ expires, but he can add some real bite to a Celtic attack that’s threatening to lose its bite.

In the last few months of the season since Lennon stepped in and replaced Brendan Rodgers, the Bhoys failed to score in four of their last eleven league games and only managed 13 goals in that time anyway. Maher would help to combat that, and if he was to sign then the likes of Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic will have some cause for concern, as the Dutchman could be a real star at Parkhead.

Celtic fans, do you want to sign Adam Maher? Comment below and let us know!

Pundit View: Charlie Nicholas tells Crystal Palace to sign Michy Batshuayi permanently

[ad_pod ]

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has been having his say on what Crystal Palace need to do in the summer transfer window, and he believes one of their priorities should be to bring Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Belgium international joined the Eagles on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window, and he made a positive impression in south London with six goals in 13 appearances in all competitions for Roy Hodgson’s men.

That return was far modest but far more impressive than the likes of Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew, who only managed to score half of that tally between them during the 2019/20 campaign.

Nicholas is certainly under no illusions as to whether Palace should look to sign Batshuayi.

He told Sky Sports: “People say Hodgson is cautious in defence but they don’t have a No 9. I would buy Batshuayi as he is better than Christian Benteke. Someone in Europe will buy him and then they need to keep the hardcore of the team.”

Should Crystal Palace keep hold of Max Meyer this summer? Harvey Jones discusses in the video below…

Is he right?

He certainly is.

There is absolutely no doubt that the 25-year-old is a class above Benteke in terms of both confidence and finishing ability, and Palace would be a much better team next season if they had the younger Belgian in their starting XI.

Chelsea’s potential transfer ban certainly makes negotiations difficult as things stand, but if the Eagles can offload the former Aston Villa man – as Nicholas says – it may boost their budget and allow them to give their London neighbours an offer they can’t afford to refuse.

Batshuayi knows the club and his potential future teammates now, so less work would be needed than if another new striker arrived in SE25.
