Graham Roberts believes that Mauricio Pochettino remains the best candidate for the Tottenham job.

The Argentine was sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho in November 2019, but with Spurs now in need of a manager, reports believe that Pochettino is on Daniel Levy’s radar.

He recently secured his second major trophy with PSG following their Coupe de France final victory over Monaco, but his failure to win the Ligue 1 title has raised serious questions over his future.

Tottenham have been linked with several names following the departure of Mourinho last month ahead of the Carabao Cup final, but Levy is trying to convince Pochettino to make a sensational return just 18 months after he was sacked.

Pochettino was a favourite with the Spurs faithful having turned the club into top four regulars before guiding the north London outfit to their first Champions League final in his final full season.

Asked whether the Tottenham chairman’s ego could get in the way of him approaching Pochettino about a return to the club, Roberts exclusively told Football FanCast:

“Everybody knows he’s got it wrong, so he’s not owning up to anything.

“Why not just say, who is the best person for this football club? Pochettino is your answer.”

According to a Spurs source, speaking to Football Insider, Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy are ‘closing in’ on appointing a new manager after holding ‘extensive meetings’, and they are ‘increasingly confident’ of having their man by the end of this season.

The Lowdown: Spurs managerial saga…

Spurs have been on the hunt for a new manager ever since the departure of Jose Mourinho a month ago, and there has been no shortage of names linked with the role.

The likes of Scott Parker, Graham Potter and Roberto Martinez have been mentioned by reliable Lilywhites correspondent Alasdair Gold, while claims in the Italian media have pointed to former Chelsea bosses Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte.

Football Insider added that discussions have been held with Martinez and Rafael Benitez, and now they have dropped a major claim on when Levy could appoint Mourinho’s successor.

As per Football Insider, Spurs are now ‘closing in’ on a new manager after holding ‘extensive meetings’, with the north Londoners narrowing down their pool of candidates.

The list is said to be diverse and included names from all age brackets and across overseas, but Levy has apparently shortened it to the extent that a possible timeframe has emerged on appointing a new manager.

It is claimed that the club are ‘increasingly confident’ of hiring their replacement for Mourinho by the end of the current campaign, and this report estimates that it could possibly happen the week commencing May 24.

The Verdict: Great news for Spurs…

Precisely a week away, if this timeframe does come to fruition, it could be a big development in the race to be Tottenham’s next manager.

Whoever Spurs’ next boss may be, they will need plenty of time to come in and assess the squad whilst also being appointed before the summer transfer window begins. Indeed, they will surely want to shape the Spurs team in their own image and liaise with chairman Levy over incomings and outgoings.

As a result, this claim Tottenham are ‘closing in’ on a possible appointment by the end of this season should come as a big boost for the club and its supporters.

الزمالك برئاسة مرتضى منصور تعاقد مع البرتغالي فيريرا خلفًا للفرنسي باتريس كارتيرون الذي رحل عن الفريق على خلفية النتائج السلبية.

وعقد مجلس إدارة الزمالك مؤتمرًا صحفيًا اليوم الأحد لتقديم البرتغالي فيريرا.

وأوضح فيريرا في تصريحات بالمؤتمر الصحفي أنه يتواجد هنا بكل راحة، وسعيد بعودته مرة أخرى، وشدد على أنه يعمل في التدريب منذ 47 عامًا، ودعوة الزمالك له كانت لها كل ود وتقدير.

وأكد أنه يعلم بوجود مشاكل ولكنه قرر الموافقة على تولي المسؤولية لأنه يحب المهام الصعبة، مضيفًا أن كل المساعدين الذين أتوا معه جيدين، وقادرون على صنع الفارق، وسيكونون مجموعة عمل من أجل الوصول للنجاح.

وتابع أنه كانت لديه فرصة أن يرى جماهير الزمالك في المباراة الأخيرة لأنه في فترة ولايته الألى لم تكن الجماهير في المدرجات ولكنه كان يشعر بدعمهم، موضحا أنه تلقى العديد من الرسائل عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تحمل كل المحبة والتقدير.

وأضاف: “لاعبو الزمالك شعروا بأن الأمور لم تكن جيدة، وشعروا بحزن الجماهير في المباراة الماضية”، وشدد على ضرورة اتحاد أسرة الزمالك من أجل هدف واحد، الفوز بالدوري والكأس والتأهل لبطولة أفريقيا المقبلة”.

وأشار إلى أن مجلس الإدارة برئاسة مرتضى منصور سيبذلون قصارى جهدهم لحل المشاكل التي تواجه النادي، ومهمته التركيز في التدريب والعمل على أن يكون الفريق أفضل، لأن الزمالك هو بطل الدوري النسخة الماضية.

وأردف أنه عندما تولى المسؤولية في الولاية الأولى لم يكن الأبيض يفوز بالدوري منذ 10 مواسم، ولم يجمع بين الدوري والكأس منذ 27 عاما، ولكنه عمل ونجح في تحقيق الثنائية.

وواصل: “الجماهير لم تكن تتواجد في المدرجات في فترة الولاية الأولى ولكني كنت أشعر بدعمهم”، وشدد على ضرورة التركيز في تحقيق الأهداف المطلوبة، وإعلاء اسم الزمالك.

وتطرق للحديث عن جهازه المعاون: “كل عضو بالجهاز سيكون له أكثر من دور في الفترة المقبلة”.

واختتم أنه سيتم تقسيم اللاعبين إلى أكثر من مجموعة نظرا لوجود 37 لاعبا في قائمة الفريق، وستكون هناك مجموعة تحت قيادة أسامة نبيه ودانيال جونزاليس من أجل توصيل الفكر الفني الصحيح لكل لاعب.

After returning from injury recently, Southampton striker Michael Obafemi seemingly has an ideal opportunity to prove himself to Ralph Hasenhuttl in the final few games of the Premier League season.

The Republic of Ireland U’21 international was close to joining Swansea City on loan in the January transfer window after barely featuring in the first half of the season, before an injury problem meant that the deal was called off and that he would stay at Staplewood to recover.

However, the 20-year-old has now made a full recovery and should be in contention to feature in some of Southampton’s final five Premier League fixtures which, barring an unlikely series of results from Fulham and West Brom, will have very little bearing on the Saints’ season.

Hasenhuhttl’s side look to be safe from relegation despite an awful run of form in 2021, which suggests that some of the younger players in the squad could be given opportunities to impress over the coming weeks.

Obafemi has made just two substitute appearances for the Saints this season and has seemingly fallen behind the likes of Nathan Tella and Dan N’Lundulu in the pecking order, despite having plenty of experience in the Premier League.

In total, the 20-year-old forward has made 35 appearances for the senior side at Southampton, in which he has contributed five goals and four assists, yet it seems that Hasenhuttl is not convinced by his professionalism, which might explain his lack of appearances earlier in the season.

However, now that he has returned from injury at a time where Danny Ings is currently sidelined, it seems as if he has been handed a golden chance to prove that he has the quality to play in the Premier League, and these next few games could end up defining his Southampton career.

After all, Obafemi has just one year left on his deal, and if he fails to impress in the next few weeks, he could end up departing St Mary’s ahead of next season, either on loan or permanently, which would be a shame as he has shown a lot of promise at times, notably when he became Southampton’s youngest ever scorer in the Premier League back in 2018.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have entered the race to sign Max Aarons.

Spurs eye Aarons

The 21-year-old recently earned promotion back to the Premier League with Norwich City.

According to this report, the Canaries agreed with the right-back last summer that he could depart in one year’s time. Everton are also interested in Aarons, with Norwich looking for a fee of £30m to part ways with the youngster.

Worth it?

Aarons has been virtually an ever-present this season for Daniel Farke’s side, playing 44 matches in the Championship out of a possible 45 (Transfermarkt). During that time, he has managed two goals and four assists, while former England under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd called him “outstanding” last October (The Pink Un).

However, Tottenham already have plenty of options at right-back. Serge Aurier has had his problems, but he has shown promise this season and illustrated his attacking threat with two assists against Sheffield United on Sunday. Matt Doherty, meanwhile, was only signed from Wolves last summer – even if he has failed to nail down a first team spot, he still deserves time to do so.

For £30m, Aarons’ signature would represent a significant outlay, and those funds could be put to better use elsewhere.

Manchester United will be aiming to strengthen their grip on second place this weekend as they come up against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils travel to London boosted by back-to-back wins against Brighton & Hove Albion and Granada.

Could the Norwegian be tempted to make any changes this weekend?

We envisage three alterations to the Manchester United team, with the first of those starting in goal.

David De Gea returned to the starting line-up against Granada but Dean Henderson appears to have established himself as first choice in the league, albeit possibly only for a temporary time.

Meanwhile, there should also be another slight tweak in defence where Luke Shaw, who scoops £150k per week at Old Trafford, will be replaced by Alex Telles. The England defender was withdrawn at half-time against Granada, with Solskjaer hoping that he could be fit. However, it makes little sense to risk him ahead of a hectic conclusion to the campaign.

The rest of the defence should remain the same with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof partnered at centre-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka deployed on the right.

The final alteration should occur in the centre of the park where Fred is likely to come into a midfield diamond in place of Daniel James. The Brazilian is likely to be deployed at the base, with Scott McTominay pushed further forwards alongside Paul Pogba.

Bruno Fernandes will of course be the furthest advanced.

Curtis Jones endured an eventful evening as the England U21s crashed out of the European Championships on Wednesday.

Despite overcoming Croatia 2-1 in their final group game, a match in which the Liverpool midfielder found the net, it was not enough for Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions as they fell at the first hurdle following a severely underwhelming campaign.

Their struggles were probably encapsulated by Jones who not only scored what looked like an all-important winning goal, only for Croatia to find the net late on, before he was also awarded a red card.

It initially looked like it was going to be an extremely productive evening for the young Reds’ midfielder though.

According to SofaScore, he had enjoyed 36 touches of the ball throughout the game, completing 15 out of his 18 passes, whilst two of those were key. The 20-year-old also created a further big chance for his teammates.

Jones continued to be a constant thorn in the side of the Croatians throughout the game, especially from an attacking standpoint. He completed each of his attempted dribbles whilst also being fouled twice.

He also had four shots at goal, one of them hitting the woodwork before he finally did get his name on the scoresheet by stroking low into the bottom corner after Dwight McNeil’s pass.

Despite the final whistle having been blown, Jones’ evening was not done though as he clashed with the celebrating Croatia players, leaving him with a bloody nose and a red card to add to his second-half strike.

After being booked in the first-half, the referee awarded the Liverpool man a second to see his evening not only end in heartbreak but also frustration with it being the first time that he has been sent off in his career.

Jones, rated at £27m, will certainly be looking to bounce back from that disappointment as he returns to Anfield in preparation for Premier League action this weekend.

A number of Liverpool supporters have been reacting to Fabrizio Romano’s update on the Reds potentially signing Aaron Ramsey this summer.

The next transfer window could be a lively one at Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp looks to make additions to his squad.

تلك هي المرة الثانية عشر في تاريخ النادي الملكي التي يحصل فيها على اللقب، والأولى مُنذ عامين، حيث توج باللقب في موسم 2019/2020.

وتوج ريال مدريد باللقب في أعوام (1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2012, 2017, 2019–20, 2021–22).

كشفت تقارير صحفية فرنسية، عن خطة نادي باريس سان جيرمان للتعاقد مع لاعب وسط مانشستر يونايتد، بول بوجبا في الصيف المقبل.

بوجبا مثل مبابي وديمبلي، أحد أبطال العالم مع فرنسا في 2018، وجميعهم تنتهي عقودهم في يونيو المقبل، ويمكنهم التفاوض مع أي فريق، منذ 1 يناير.

لاعب وسط مانشستر يونايتد، ارتبط كثيرًا بالخروج من ملعب أولد ترافورد، وسط ارتباط وثيق بـ ريال مدريد وبرشلونة والعودة لـ يوفنتوس، وأخيرًا باريس سان جيرمان.

وحسب ما أكدت صحيفة “ليكيب” الفرنسية، أن الاهتمام بين بوجبا وباريس سان جيرمان متبادل، ولاعب الوسط يريد اللعب بجانب ليونيل ميسي، ونيمار، كما أنه سيتواجد في وطنه.

باريس سان جيرمان يخطط لضم بوجبا مثلما فعل مع راموس وميسي، دون تكلفة نهائيًا من حيث الشراء، ويتكفل فقط النادي براتبه، حيث إن أسطورتي ريال مدريد وبرشلونة، انضما للنادي العاصمي بدون مقابل في الصيف الماضي بعد انتهاء عقودهما مع عملاقي إسبانيا.

فيما يتعلق بـ بوجبا، ليس لديه النية لتجديد عقده مع مانشستر يونايتد، لكن النادي قد يُغري الفرنسي بالتعاقد مع مواطنه زين الدين زيدان في الصيف بعد نهاية الموسم، وهو الذي أراد اللعب معه في ريال مدريد خلال الفترة الماضية قبل رحيل زيزو عن النادي الملكي.
