Celtic fans slam Rangers chairman Dave King for latest statement

Rangers chairman Dave King has called for an independent investigation into SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan and his business links with Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

The Light Blues chief has also called for MacLennan’s suspension while such an investigation takes place, stating that ‘the credibility of Scottish Football in the minds of supporters and sponsors is at stake and urgent action is required.’

As reported by The Daily Record, the SPFL are adamant there is no conflict of interest.

It’s the latest in a long season of incendiary statements from the Ibrox chairman, with opposition fans growing increasingly amused with each new one that is released.

It’s also the second time in the last week alone that King has called for a probe into Scottish football’s governing bodies.

Celtic fans have reacted about as you’d expect, plenty with humour and others with sheer amazement given the Rangers chairman’s previous clashes with the powers that be in Scottish football.

Everton fans divided over Mirallas loan departure

Two departures from Merseyside were confirmed last week, with Philippe Coutinho leaving Liverpool for Barcelona and Kevin Mirallas moving from Everton to Olympiakos on loan.

The second of those transfers did not get hardly as much column inches as the first, though.

Mirallas has been part of Everton since 2012 when he signed from the Greek outfit that he will now represent once again.

Since his arrival, the attacking player has scored 38 goals in 186 appearances for the blue half of Merseyside.

In the last few seasons, Mirallas has struggled to keep all of the fanbase onside, mainly due to his attitude on the pitch.

The Belgian dropped down the rankings under former manager Ronald Koeman, and that trend has continued with Sam Allardyce in charge.

In fact, this season, the forward has made just 10 appearances in all competitions and five of them have been in the Premier League.

Once Everton had announced Mirallas’s move to Olympiakos, which will run until the end of the season, fans gave mixed responses.

THREE reasons why Arsenal’s Champions League adventure is far from over

Arsenal travel to the Allianz Arena for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie battling back from a two goal deficit.

Bayern Munich saw off Arsene Wenger’s men; capitalising after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for bringing down Arjen Robben in the box.

From there the Bavarians seized control, with strikes from Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller leaving the Gunners with an uphill struggle.

However, all is not lost for Arsenal. Far from it. Here are three reasons why the dream isn’t over…

1) With 11 men on the pitch Arsenal more than took the game to Bayern…

2) If they win a penalty, they know to not let Mesut Ozil anywhere near it. Unless he promises to stop mucking around and take it properly…

3) Urrrm, remember what happened last time at the Allianz Arena…?

Premier League’s Top Goalscorer hails return to form

Magpies striker Demba Ba has welcomed his return to goalscoring habits this season which has made him the current Premier League top goalscorer.

The star striker has started in sizzling form scoring 6 goals domestically and he believes that he has finally recovered from the hangover he endured from the African Cup of nations in January.

“I needed two months after the tournament to recover from it,” admitted the Newcastle United striker in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Senegal lost all three of their group games including a surprising defeat to Equatorial Guinea which the striker found a bitter pill to swallow.

He went on to to say how he had no intention of repeating the barren goal drought that followed after the competition and that he needs to keep adding “hard work” to his games to consistently deliver the results he has initially achieved this season.

Ba will be looking to put in a similar performance to the one he gave last season when Manchester United visit the Sports Direct Arena this Sunday.

Tottenham consider summer move for Kondogbia

According to Sky Sports News, Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia is on a list of potential targets for Tottenham Hotspur in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Tottenham are expected to be busy this summer as head coach Mauricio Pochettino looks to boost his options for the 2018-19 campaign.

Midfield is an area that Pochettino wants to strengthen, especially considering that Mousa Dembele could well leave the capital club.

According to Sky Sports News, Lille midfielder Yves Bissouma is amongst Tottenham’s targets, but the Premier League outfit are also believed to be watching the developments surrounding Kondogbia, who has been on loan at Valencia from Inter Milan.

The Frenchman scored four times and registered four assists in 36 appearances for Valencia in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign, and it is understood that he could be available for transfer in this summer’s window.

Would Kondogbia be a good signing?

Valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Kondogbia started his professional career with Lens, before moving to Sevilla in the summer of 2012.

An impressive 2012-13 campaign convinced Monaco to sign the midfielder, and he spent two years with the principality outfit before joining Inter in June 2015.

The 25-year-old found it difficult to settle at San Siro, however, and left the Italian giants last summer for La Liga team Valencia, who enjoyed a strong 2017-18 season.

The powerful midfielder really was impressive on loan at Los Che last term, and can count himself a touch unfortunate to have missed out on a spot in the France squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Kondogbia is just what Tottenham need in the middle of the park, however, and there is absolutely no question that he has the attributes to be a star in the Premier League.

Arsenal fans were delighted by Nacho Monreal’s match-winning show vs Palace

Arsenal were in rampant form in the English Premier League on Saturday, destroying Crystal Palace 4-1 at the Emirates.Arsene Wenger’s side badly needed a victory after failing to win any of the last five matches in all competitions but produced a performance of the highest quality to see off their London rivals. The Gunners were four up by the 22nd minute thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Lauren Koscielny, Alex Iwobi and defender Nacho Monreal, who also provided two assists. The Spaniard was only on the pitch for half an hour, picking up a knock in the first half, but his three direct goal contribution delighted supporters, who paid tribute to his performance after the match on social media.Monreal has rarely been given the freedom to get forward this season but on the left flank was superb against Palace and it’ll be interesting to see whether Wenger deploys him in that role again in matches ahead.Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his showing…

Manchester United & Arsenal dealt blow in race for Barca ace

and Arsenal’s hopes of a January deal for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song have suffered a set back, with news that Inter Milan are keen on his signature, according to reports from The Express.

The ex-Gunners ace looks set to leave the Nou Camp this winter after a thoroughly disappointing 18 months.

The Cameroonian left the Emirates Stadium in 2012 to pursue silverware with Barca, but has struggled to earn a spot in the starting XI.

With the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabragas all impressive this term, Song’s hopes of reviving his career under recent managerial arrival Tata Martino look bleak.

As a result he is thought to be ready to leave in the New Year, which has prompted interest from United and Arsenal.

But, the Premier League duo face stern competition in the shape of Inter.

The Milan giants are ready to make a serious move for his services, which is likely to be accepted by Barca.

Song has insisted that he is committed to the Catalan club, but did confess that enjoyed his time at Arsenal:

“I do not know what will happen in the future,” he told RMC earlier this month.

“But it is true that I spent some fantastic seasons there [at Arsenal].

“We will see what happens, but for now I’m a Barcelona player.”

Spurs defender happy at White Hart Lane

Tottenham’s summer signing Jan Vertonghen has admitted that he is loving life at White Hart Lane.

The Belgium international moved to north London from Ajax in the transfer window, and although he has confessed that it will be a long season, has revealed that he is glad to have switched to the Premier League.

“I think at the end of the season I will need a good vacation! But no, I love it here,” he is quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

“The atmosphere is amazing. There are the best players in the world and we have an amazing team so I am very happy I made this decision.”

Spurs beat QPR 2-1 at the weekend but were losing at half-time and booed by their supporters; Vertonghen understands the supporters’ frustrations.

“It’s frustrating when you can’t play your own game so I understand the supporters. We want to dominate at home and away so the supporters expect that from us,” he continued.

Spurs have Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend, and the defender is looking forward to facing Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

“I played at Old Trafford with Ajax last year and it’s an amazing atmosphere. I am looking forward to my first game there with Tottenham and I think we are strong enough to do some good things there. Confidence is high now,” he concluded.

Tottenham target Ndombele is the perfect Dembele replacement

According to Monday’s L’Equipe, Tottenham will battle PSG for the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

What’s the story?

Tottenham could be set to lose multiple veteran stars like Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele this summer, and reports in France have already identified their replacement for the latter.

According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Ndombele has ‘aroused the interest’ of both Tottenham and French champions PSG.

The wiry midfielder has been previously linked to both Tottenham and Arsenal, but the latest report makes no mention of the Gunners, perhaps due to the player’s desire to play Champions League football.

Ndombele is good enough to walk into the Tottenham team tomorrow and replace Dembele, a task that gets a lot harder for Mauricio Pochettino if he loses out to PSG.

An upgrade on Dembele?

Ndombele is technically an Amiens player, but Lyon are expected to pay the small fee to make his loan move permanent this summer. Once that’s done, they will be free to sell him on for a massive fee after his incredible breakthrough season.

The wiry midfielder is only 21, but already possesses similar attributes to Dembele, and his stats suggest he wouldn’t just be a replacement for the Belgian – he would be an upgrade.

[ad_pod ]

The young Frenchman averages a remarkable 4.7 successful dribbles per game in the league this season, along with 1.3 key passes per game, two tackles and 1.7 interceptions.

Comparing that to Dembele, the Belgian veteran averages just 2.4 dribbles per game, 0.6 key passes, 1.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions.

Of course the French league is nowhere near the standard and pace of the Premier League, but Ndombele has a fantastic burst of pace, and his low centre of gravity makes him almost impossible to dispossess.

The 21 year-old offers everything Dembele does defensively, but is technically superior and better going forward. He could very well be the missing link between defence and attack for Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham fans, would you take a punt on Ndombele this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

West Ham boss Moyes hints at plans for January transfer window

West Ham United boss David Moyes has hinted that he will look to sign at least one new midfielder during the January transfer window.

Moyes is expected to be busy at the start of 2018 as the Scot looks to bring his own players to the London Stadium for the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

West Ham have been strongly linked with a move for a new centre-back in recent days, with Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson believed to be the club’s leading target.

Moyes has now revealed that he wants to improve his midfield options in the winter window, but has seemingly ruled out bringing a new striker to the London Stadium next month.

Moyes told West Ham’s official website:

“I’ve got to say every player has shown great desire and is committed in training, but I think we’re short in some areas and overloaded in others. For example, we’ve got lots of forwards, but we’re really short of midfield players.

“We’ve got quite a few who are comfortable playing on the left, but not so many who can play on the right, so we’ve got a little bit of an imbalanced squad which we’ve got to straighten out in January if we can.”

Diafra Sakho is widely expected to leave West Ham next month, but West Ham are well stocked in the final third due to the presence of Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Marko Arnautovic.
