Wolves fans blast Jose Sa vs Southampton

Some Wolves fans have criticised Jose Sa after he nearly made a costly error in their game at Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Portugal international almost got caught on the ball late in the first half in front of his own goal, which could have gifted the Saints an opening goal at St Mary’s.

Bruno Lage’s team looked very shaky at times when trying to play out from the back, and the defence certainly did not seem confident when the 28-year-old made that mistake.

He has big boots to fill after Rui Patricio left Molineux to sign for AS Roma in the summer transfer window, but errors like these will certainly not help his cause in trying to win over the Molineux faithful, even if he did make amends with a splendid double save early in the second half.

West Ham eye Aaron Ramsey on a free

West Ham United could land Aaron Ramsey for nothing in 2022…

What’s the word?

According to The Sun, Serie A outfit Juventus are prepared to let the 30-year-old midfielder leave for free this January, despite him being under contract until 2023.

The 67-time Welsh international has struggled for game time since swapping north London for Turin in 2019.

It’s thought that there could be several offers for the former Arsenal star, with Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Everton already on alert, alongside the Irons.

Imagine him and Antonio

Ramsey’s injury record over the last few years is certainly a cause for concern but if the Hammers can get him fit and firing once again, then David Moyes would have one of the Premier League’s best-ever midfielders at his disposal.

He has played only 69 times for the Italian giants, featuring for just 106 minutes in 2021/22, via Transfermarkt.

It’s easy to forget that he’s made 262 appearances in the Premier League and has won multiple FA Cup trophies during his time in England with the Gunners.

The Welshman bagged 65 goals and provided another 65 assists in over 370 matches in north London, in which he recorded a career-best of 13 goals and ten assists during the 2013/14 campaign, as per Transfermarkt.

Such form earned comparisons to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, all players capable of driving forward to contribute in the final third.

Furthermore, his 77 appearances across the Champions League and Europa League could add some more much-needed experience to this current Hammers squad. It’s only really summer signing Kurt Zouma that has frequently played in Europe.

Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger once lauded the £13m-rated maestro as the “complete” midfielder, whilst BT Sport pundit Martin Keown has previously described him as a “real leader” and an “outstanding technician” – merely further characteristics to why Moyes might be keen to sign him this winter.

Just imagine the goals he could add to the side from midfield – alongside the talismanic Michail Antonio, he could be a force to be reckoned with, especially as Tomas Soucek’s goalscoring form is yet to hit the same heights as last season.

Wages could well become an issue but considering he may be available for no transfer fee, it could be a very smart move that won’t cost GSB millions.

Ramsey should be seriously considered in the next transfer window.

Liverpool fans fume over Brazilian news

Many Liverpool fans have been reacting to emerging news that their Brazilian players will not be granted permission to return to England early from international duty.

Brazil have nine Premier League players in their squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela, Columbia and Uruguay, and top flight clubs were hoping that their stars could return earlier than normal so they could feature in the first weekend back.

The Daily Mail have reported today that Brazil have followed Argentina in confirming their players won’t return to England early, news that won’t go down well with Liverpool fans.

Alisson and Fabinho have been called up to Tite’s squad for the upcoming break, with the final game against Uruguay taking place just 35 hours before the return of Premier League football.

This means they will now almost certainly miss the away trip to Watford next Saturday, leaving Jurgen Klopp with a tough choice to make in between the sticks and in midfield.

Newcastle manager news on Wenger

Luke Edwards has revealed that Arsene Wenger is a contender to be the next manager at Newcastle United after Steve Bruce is expectedly sacked.

The Lowdown: Bruce still in charge?!

It was widely reported by the media that Bruce was going to be sacked before their game at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, but he will now take charge of his 1000th match as a manager (Sky Sports).

Nonetheless, it could well be nothing more than a token gesture by the Kingdom of Saud Arabia (KSA) consortium, who may still look to bring someone else in after.

The Latest: Wenger in contention

Writing in his latest piece for The Daily Telegraph, Edwards has revealed that Wenger is among a number of names that are in contention to replace Bruce once he leaves St. James’ Park.

The journalist adds that he would be ‘ideal’ in terms of helping with other areas of development, such as the Academy, and that it would be ‘foolish’ to rule him out at this stage.

The Verdict: Ship has sailed

Even though Wenger has no doubt had a glittering career in management, as he won the Premier League title three times with Arsenal, including that famous 2003/04 Invincibles season (Transfermarkt), he is 71 years of age now, and so the new owners should be looking to a manager for the long-term.

Sir Alex Ferguson once dubbed him a ‘phenomenal’ manager despite a humiliating 8-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford over a decade ago now, but Wenger would risk tarnishing his legacy with the Gunners, the team he is very much associated with after 22 years at the North London club, should he go on manage another side in the top flight.

Nonetheless, there are younger managers available at the moment that the North East club should really be considering over Wenger.

Is this Southampton’s next Livramento?

With just five goals scored in their opening seven Premier League games of the season and the fact that Danny Ings made the move to Aston Villa over the summer, Southampton seem to be in need of some attacking reinforcements to help them get away from the relegation zone.

The January transfer window is just about on the horizon and it seems as though the Saints have their eye on potentially signing someone who could possibly fix their attacking issue.

According to TEAMtalk, they are interested in making a move for Fulham attacking-midfielder Fabio Carvalho in January after tracking the player for “a number of months.”

The report also claims that “a host of Premier League clubs have been looking closely” at Carvalho, so the Saints could potentially have some competition for his signature.

Livramento 2.0?

Southampton’s potential move for Carvalho could in some ways mirror the club’s recent transfer deal for Valentino Livramento given that they signed him from another west London club with Chelsea during the recent summer transfer window.

However, what makes the similarity so telling is that they both have Portuguese roots and Carvalho remains relatively untested in the top-flight, a category Livramento was very much in until his move to St. Mary’s. The Fulham youngster has made a splash in the Championship this term but has made just four appearances in the Premier League.

Since arriving at Southampton, Livramento has played in all seven of their Premier League games, earning himself an overall season rating of 6.71/10 for his performances, making him their sixth-highest rated player according to WhoScored, which says to us how well he has settled in at the club and adapted to playing in the Premier League regularly.

Carvalho, meanwhile, has been described as a “fantastic” player by Fulham boss Marco Silva and like the former Chelsea product, is a dazzling young individual. The 19-year-old has just 11 senior appearances for the Cottagers but has managed to score four goals and provide one assist, proving himself a useful attacking outlet.

Moving forward, we think Southampton should definitely try and snap up their mooted target. He is currently valued at £225k according to Transfermarkt, and at a bargain price, would be in good stead to potentially replicate Livramento’s good start to life on the south coast.

Everton fans slam Salomon Rondon v Watford

Many Everton fans have been slamming the display of Salomon Rondon in the first half of their game at home to Watford in the Premier League.

Rafael Benitez’s side got off to the perfect start at Goodison Park through a Tom Davies goal but were pegged back shortly after by former Toffees striker Josh King.

His goal sparked outrage among several Blues supporters, who started comparing him to Rondon, and came to the conclusion that the Norwegian would offer more to Benitez’s team.

The Venezuela international was largely anonymous throughout the half, recording very few touches of the ball, as he really struggled – and not for the first time in an Everton shirt.

Many Evertonians cannot wait for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to come back if Rondon continues his poor form, as he had yet to score in his first six games for the club before today.

Vitinha linked with return to Wolves

Former Wolves loanee Vitinha has been linked with a return to Molineux, with a scout thought to have watched him in action for FC Porto recently.

The Lowdown: Vitinha impresses on loan

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Wolves, making 22 appearances overall and catching the eye with his mature performances.

Vitinha returned to Porto when his loan expired and he has made four Primeira Liga starts so far this term.

The Latest: Linked with return

According to Record [via Sport Witness], Wolves sent a scout to watch Porto’s 3-1 win away to Tondela, with officials from the likes of Valencia, Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad, Tenerife, Extremadura also thought to be present.

It is mentioned that Wolves could potentially be considering a permanent deal for Vitinha in either the January transfer window or next summer.

The Verdict: Shrewd potential business

This is positive news from a Wolves perspective, with Vitinha a player who would represent a long-term addition and someone who becomes more formidable as each year passes.

He may not have been perfect on loan at Molineux, but for a player of his age, he showed what he is capable of and why the club are seemingly watching him closely again. His 90.3% passing accuracy was the best of any Wolves starter in the 2020/21 Premier League and is far above the team’s 81.4% for the current campaign, so he could improve them significantly in this regard.

Some Porto fans have hailed his performances this season – one called him ‘better than prime Iniesta’ – which speaks volumes about the strides he is making. Also, with the 21-year-old already having a taste of Molineux, the readjustment to the Midlands should be fairly comfortable for him, particularly with another Portuguese manager at the helm in Bruno Lage.

In other news, Liverpool are reportedly keen on a move for a hugely exciting young player. Read more here.

Liverpool linked with Eden Hazard

From an attacking point of view, Liverpool have been in stunning form this season, with 29 goals scored in their opening 10 Premier League games of the campaign.

However, it seems as though the Merseyside club could add a familiar face to their squad in the near future who boasts a stunning attacking record.

What’s the news?

It has recently been reported by El Nacional that Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid and former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian – who has been described as a “superstar” in the past by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher – scored 110 goals and provided 92 assists in 392 appearances for the west London club before he joined Real Madrid in 2019 in a huge deal worth a reported fee of around £150m.

In his time at Chelsea, Hazard scored seven goals and provided two assists in 18 games against Liverpool, often proving to be a thorn in the Reds’ side.

Since moving to Spain, the 30-year-old – who is currently valued at £22.5m according to Transfermarkt – has been plagued with injuries which have significantly impacted his playing time with Los Blancos, making just 53 appearances across all competitions.

Despite his age and worrying injury record since leaving Chelsea, if Liverpool were able to add Hazard to their squad for a relatively low fee (potentially in the January transfer window) and get him back to the form he showed during his time in the Premier League, where he scored 85 goals and provided 61 assists in 245 games, we feel this could be a very clever piece of business from the Merseyside club.

Additionally, if Liverpool do sign Hazard in January and he can stay fit, we reckon he could form a deadly partnership with former Blues team-mate Mohamed Salah, who has 15 goals and six assists under his belt in 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season. That could potentially see Jurgen Klopp’s side push on to beat the likes of Manchester City and the Belgian’s previous club Chelsea to the Premier League title this season. Indeed, the 30-year-old has twice helped fire the Londoners to the English top flight crown.

Overall, we feel that if a potential deal for Hazard can be made in January, this is definitely something the Reds should consider as a potential boost to their title hopes.

Junior Firpo mystery continues at Leeds

Junior Firpo’s recent absence from Leeds United’s matchday squad has certainly raised a few question marks as the summer signing was widely expected to return following injury.

And now LeedsLive reporter Beren Cross has delivered his verdict on the situation, outlining his concerns that there could be a fresh issue to deal with.

What’s the latest?

The club haven’t provided any indication over why the 25-year-old defender missed the clash with Leicester City, having played over a week earlier for the U23 squad.

Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa claimed he would “assess” his left-back ahead of kickoff but with Jamie Shackleton also absent through injury, the Argentine had to deploy towering central defender Pascal Struijk in an unfamiliar role.

“[Bielsa] hasn’t said this as such, but I can’t work out if Firpo hurt himself in that Friday night game [vs Arsenal U23s] here, because he came off at half an hour, and obviously didn’t then go to Norwich [in the Premier League],” claimed the journalist on LeedsLive’s Facebook stream.

“I think we all just assumed that it was because it was too close to Norwich, but then he obviously missed today [vs Leicester City]. And the inference is that there’s either a new problem or he had maybe a setback in that Friday game.”

Frustrating update

It is certainly strange that the Dominican Republic-born star featured for the youth side for just 30 minutes ahead of Leeds’ trip to Norwich but then has not been seen since.

Firpo has now missed their last four Premier League outings and the Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal, having only featured eight times since his £12.8m move from Barcelona a few months ago.

United have struggled for form so far this campaign and find themselves in 15th place, just three points outside of the relegation zone – a stark contrast to last season, where they finished inside the top ten and stunned teams like Man City, Spurs and Liverpool with impressive displays.

Bielsa was already light in the full-back positions heading into the 2021/22 season, especially after the exit of Gjanni Alioski, so to not have Firpo available for so long is certainly frustrating and it has not helped their fortunes whatsoever.

The longer this mystery goes on, the more the Elland Road faithful will become worried if not fuming.

Struijk is not a left-back and whilst he deputised sufficiently, Leeds cannot afford to head into a hectic fixture list by putting square pegs in round holes. It’ll only make things worse and put pressure on everyone in the dugout.

The £12.8m-rated dynamo, who is thought to be earning around £55k-per-week, now has two weeks to get fit and ready for the Whites’ return to action after the international break, when they head to north London to face Spurs.

Bielsa will want to have his first-choice left-back available for such a tricky encounter but Cross’ verdict is far from encouraging.

Henderson loss to be Ole’s biggest mistake

Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been no strangers to controversy over the last few months, from team selection to score lines, every detail of the ongoing drama at Old Trafford continues to be the hottest topic in Premier League football.

It seems Ole could be setting up for his next Man United disaster with speculation mounting on the future of young goalkeeper, Dean Henderson.

Henderson hasn’t been getting game time this season, with only one appearance for the Red Devils so far in the EFL Cup, which appears to be unsettling for the youngster who is keen to get first-team football under his belt.

The lack of minutes is quite obviously down to the spectacular return of form from David De Gea, who made his mark on the Manchester United team early in the season, seemingly re-establishing himself as the number one keeper in the side, despite conceding nine goals in three out of his four last games.

The young keeper has been branded ‘insane’ by former teammate, Sander Berge, with the Sheffield United midfielder saying; “He’s insane. I’ve never been with such a good goalkeeper. One thing in matches, he is almost a defence alone at times, and you feel so secure with him.”

With that in mind, surely he should be the stopper to take Man United through their next era?

Sadly, however, the £19.8m-rated gem has been reportedly linked with a move to newly taken over, Newcastle United.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United goalkeeper, Mark Bosnich, had his say about a potential move to the North East for the 24-year-old;

“I think he should go. He’s at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football,” Bosnich told talkSPORT.

“But I think from Dean Henderson’s point of view, he needs to start looking after Dean Henderson.

“Newcastle are a club who are on the go and on the move but they are also in a perilous position right now.

“New manager. It’s important to get your spin right and the goalkeeper is the integral part of that. He should go and should go as soon as he possibly can.”

Norwegian manager, Solskjaer, is already on the ropes at Manchester United with pressure rising to find results after a terrible display so far this season, with just four wins from eleven in the Premier League so far.

Losing young players to other Premier League clubs could be one of the biggest mistakes Ole makes in his tenure, strengthening those around him and surrendering homegrown talent who the squad could be built around in the years to come.

Thus, if the manager is still in charge of the Manchester club come January, it will be important for him to identify the right direction for players desperate for first-team football, with the likes of Henderson, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek all linked with moves away from the club in the winter transfer window.

At the moment, Solskjaer is staring down the barrel of another disaster and yet more unrest. On the weekend a protest against the Glazers took place, none of this is ideal.
