Leeds fans are disappointed with loan exit as Lewie Coyle departs again

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United announced on Friday that Lewie Coyle has left the Championship club to return on loan to Fleetwood Town until January 2020.

Coyle came through the youth system at Elland Road and has made 23 first-team appearances for the Whites in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with Fleetwood, however, and has now returned to the club until the January transfer window.

It is difficult to imagine that there is a future for Coyle at Leeds.

After all, the defender is not exactly a spring chicken and has not secured a minute of action for the Whites since the 2016-17 season.

A number of Leeds fans have been on social media offering their views on the latest loan move.

And it would be fair to say that a number disagree with the situation as many want him to simply depart on a permanent deal.

Juan Mata and Joel Pereira reply to Nemanja Matic’s Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United’s stay in the land down under is slowly coming to its conclusion.

After a day off for some much-needed rest and recovery on Sunday, the Red Devils are now once again in full training mode ahead of their final Australia challenge against Leeds United.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday and the team then flies out to Singapore, where they will continue their 2019 pre-season tour.

But for now, they are still doing their sessions in Perth and if Nemanja Matic’s latest

/Bz70dN5n0SY/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap is anything to go by, the players enjoyed a head-tennis competition in training, one that the Serbian’s side was clearly victorious in.

The snap depicted the mini-tournament champions in good spirits after the game, but not everyone was pleased with the results.

One of the defeated players was Joel Pereira, and he just posted a series of emojis showing how he felt about the loss.

Others, like Juan Mata, were also replying to the snap, but clearly with a lot of love after joining Matic in victory.

Fans will surely be glad to see the players in high spirits ahead of what is a huge campaign, but the results to begin the season will reveal just how effective Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pre-season strategies have been.

Everton should choose to sign Jean-Philippe Gbamin over Ibrahim Sangare

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

It seems that with just less than two weeks remaining of the transfer window, the priorities for Everton are securing an attacker as well as a replacement for the seemingly PSG-bound Idrissa Gueye.

Wilfried Zaha, Moise Kean, Nicolas Pepe, Malcom and David Neres have all been linked as potential forward options, although their hunt for a Gueye replacement seems to have only two candidates as of now.

Toulouse powerhouse Ibrahim Sangare, and Mainz 05’s versatile star Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for Sangare along with Tottenham, with an offer between €20m-€25m (£17.8m – £22.3m) reportedly enough to tempt the Ligue 1 side into negotiations.

In Gbamin’s case, Everton have spoken to Mainz about the Ivorian, and the Bundesliga club value him at £30m.

As you can see by the stats above, one man is vastly better than the other based on last season.

21-year-old Sangare betters 23-year-old Gbamin in every defensive department apart from interceptions per game, where the pair are matched with one apiece – the Toulouse man’s 3.6 tackles per game are notably better than Gbamin’s 1.6.

However, whilst it may sound foolish given the fact that Sangare is better and cheaper, Everton must opt for Gbamin.

Why? Well, the 6 foot 1 Ivory Coast international can also play at right-back as well as at centre-back, along with his natural position at defensive midfield.

You may ask what the significance of that is. Basically, with the pursuit for Kurt Zouma looking unrealistic now, Everton are extremely weak in central defence with just Yerry Mina and Michael Keane as senior options after Phil Jagielka also departed.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

Furthermore, the position of right-back is also a weak one with Seamus Coleman and the returning Mason Holgate the only occupants. The Irishman didn’t have the best of times last term (at his own admission), whilst Holgate was loaned out mid-season, meaning that neither of Marco Silva’s right-back options are standout names.

Jonjoe Kenny has also departed the club for Schalke, further weakening the area.

Sangare may be significantly better, but he isn’t versatile whereas Gbamin can cover a number of positions – coincidentally, ones that Everton are severely in need of fresh faces in.

In terms of a move making sense, targeting Gbamin over Sangare should be a no brainer.

Man United legend Rio Ferdinand welcomes Robin van Persie to BT Sport’s pundit team

[ad_pod ]

Just months after hanging up his boots and retiring from professional football, a true legend of the game in Robin van Persie will be joining Rio Ferdinand and Co as the newest member of BT Sport’s punditry team.

Ferdinand confirmed so in his latest

/B0VuipVgiOO/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap in which he welcomed his ex-teammate to the family and posted a long message saying how he enjoyed working with him before, and that their partnership will no doubt be equally successful in a suit and a tie.

The now 35-year-old was a part of the Red Devils family after he made a move to Old Trafford in 2012, joining from Arsenal.

Van Persie ended up having a really successful career in a United shirt.

He made a total of 105 appearances, scoring 58 goals and tallying 21 assists along the way. He even won the Premier League title in 2013.

The Dutchman also posted a reply to Ferdinand, thanking him for the kind words but also asking that he goes easy on the pranks which are sure to follow pretty soon.

Newcastle fans want to keep Ciaran Clark amid Crystal Palace speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are eyeing a move for Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark before the transfer window slams shut.

The report claims that Palace are considering a loan offer, although Clark could be available for £5m if the Eagles pushed for permanent deal.

The 29-year-old has made 72 appearances for Newcastle since moving to St James’ Park from Aston Villa in 2016.

The Republic of Ireland international made just 11 Premier League appearances during the 2018-19 campaign, though, and only appeared once in the league in 2019.

That said, a number of Newcastle fans have taken to social media to call for their club to keep hold of Clark heading into the 2019-20 campaign.

Joelinton is the club’s only summer arrival thus far, whilst the likes of Ayoze Perez, Joselu and Mohamed Diame have moved on.

As a result, the Newcastle supporters are reluctant for another first-team player to leave at this stage of the window, as shown by the tweets below:

Manchester United’s Harry Maguire given a word of warning by Virgil van Dijk

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

As quoted by The Guardian, Virgil van Dijk has issued a word of warning to Harry Maguire after the England international became the world’s most expensive defender following a move to Manchester United.

What did he say?

Van Dijk was the original holder of the record after he joined Liverpool in a £75m deal from Southampton in January 2018. But having seen Maguire fetch a reported £80m, the Reds centre-back has admitted that the fee involved will come with its own set of pressure.

[ad_pod ]

He said: “Good luck to him. I can’t say anything about that because there was always going to be a time when it was going to change. That’s the market. He doesn’t have any influence on that but I wish him well. The price comes with pressure but it doesn’t change too much because you always have pressure at big clubs like Man United. But I wish him well.”

Can Maguire handle it?

The weight of expectation on Maguire is perhaps two-fold. Not only does the world-record fee immediately mark him out in the history books, but there is certainly a sense the England international will have to lead United’s defensive transformation next season.

The Red Devils endured a difficult campaign at the back, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s captures of both Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer is with a view of addressing that. But as has been seen with others, the size of a price tag can often be a huge, unbearable weight on someone’s shoulders.

Whilst Van Dijk has thrived and almost risen to the occasion even more because of it, others like Paul Pogba, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata, amongst others, have been held down by it. Maguire’s on-the-pitch persona radiates a sense of calmness and composure, but it remains to be seen whether the nature of his move to Old Trafford will affect his game in any way.

Rangers fans react as Andy King nears loan switch to Ibrox

Leicester City midfielder Andy King is on the brink of joining Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, but it’s not going down well with the fans.

The 50-cap Wales international is on the verge of becoming Gerrard’s tenth signing of the summer, as the Gers boss gets stuck into his second season in management.

King has been at Leicester his entire career, playing an impressive 375 times for the club, with 29 of those appearances coming as part of the side that won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season.

The greatest player ever to grace the Scottish Premiership is revealed in the video below…

The potential loan deal for the 30-year-old hasn’t been met particularly warmly by many of the supporters however.

The Light Blues have already brought in Joe Aribo, as well as welcoming Greg Docherty back from an impressive loan at Shrewsbury, and many fans aren’t sure that they really need another central midfielder this summer.

Another concern raised by the fans is his lack of games played in the past 24 months. The Welshman has featured just 31 times in the last two seasons and the fans aren’t happy signing an injury risk like King.

Here’s what the supporters had to say on Twitter about the potential deal…

Birmingham City’s predicted starting XI against Barnsley

[ad_pod ]

Birmingham City have experienced every single result possible so far this season.

A win on the opening day against Brentford was followed up by a draw to Bristol City but at the weekend they suffered a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.

The three results see Pep Clotet’s men sit almost slap-bang in the middle of the Championship table in 15th and considering they lost vital players such as Che Adams to Southampton for £15m and Jota to arch-rivals Aston Villa over the summer, that isn’t the worst place they could be.

In Adams they have lost 22 goals whilst Jota laid on 11 assists for the side last season.

However, they are currently the league’s joint-lowest goal scorers having netted just twice in three matches, so will Clotet change his squad for this fixture?

Here’s our predicted lineup…

The Blues should stick with their regular defence given that goalkeeper Lee Camp and the back four in front of him have played in all three Championship games this season – meaning Kristian Pedersen, Harlee Dean, Marc Roberts and Maxime Colin should all remain.

There could be a debut for deadline day arrival Jefferson Montero, which would add width to the side, especially as Jacques Maghoma is expected to miss the match through injury.

The Swansea loanee has been awaiting international clearance to play but Clotet seemed confident about his chances after the Forest defeat at the weekend.

A change of system would allow Lukas Jutkiewicz to gain a partner – a problem we have previously highlighted on Football FanCast – meaning a defensive midfield option could be required if the Blues boss goes with Alvaro Gimenez as that second striker.

Ivan Sunjic might be favoured over Gary Gardner and David Davis as he’s the more out-and-out defensive midfield option of the three, playing 84 of his 93 career games in that very role.

The change would also allow Dan Crowley to play in a more advanced attacking midfield role, which could bring a solution to the aforementioned problem in attack.

Barcelona should drop Luis Suarez in favour of Antoine Griezmann

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Last weekend, Barcelona finally clinched their first three points of the new La Liga season, and Antoine Griezmann, their new star signing, was at the centre of it all, scoring two goals and assisting one. It was a huge change from his previous outing for the Catalans and a result of one simple tweak: no Luis Suarez in the lineup due to injury.

On the chalkboard

Ever since he arrived at the club, Suarez has been a key figure for Barcelona and a regular first-team member. His influence should not be questioned as the Uruguayan has scored a total of 177 goals for the team in 248 games he played for them. Similarly impressive was his 2018/19 season, when he scored 25 goals across all competitions.

But as deadly and as influential as Suarez has been, he’s also getting pretty old. At the age of 33, he’s already lost a fair share of his intensity, pace and stamina. When we combine that with Lionel Messi, who, for all his brilliance, has similar issues due to his age, it would be wise for Barcelona to refresh their attacking trio with a slight change to the roster instead of adding their new man to the existing blueprint.

A new trident

It might seem a bit drastic at first but dropping Suarez altogether instead of just pairing him up with Griezmann would be a much better choice for Barcelona. Of course, when it comes to banging in the goals, the Uruguayan is very much still the top dog. But the Frenchman can match him in that and bring so much more to the table.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Griezmann had a similar record with Atletico Madrid, scoring 133 goals in 257 games played. Slightly less, granted, but in a much more defensive system and a team that, in general, scores fewer goals than Barcelona. And we don’t have to look much farther than last two games Blaugrana played in La Liga for proof of this thesis.

In the first game, Griezmann was deployed as a left winger because Suarez occupied the centre-forward role. In the time they were both on the pitch, the Frenchman was clearly not as effective in his wide role. He only managed three shots and made just 33 touches in the whole game.

And what happened when he was played as the sole centre-forward against Betis? Seven shots, two goals, an assist and an incredible 87 touches all over the pitch. Not only that but he also sent two key passes and was involved in all sections of the game.

As much as Suarez was the go-to forward for Barcelona in all those years, keeping him in the lineup will only limit his new 28-year-old team-mate who has everything it takes to be the team’s focal point in attack.

Real Madrid fans react negatively to Dani Carvajal’s Twitter post

It has been a long summer for Real Madrid and an even longer pre-season.

Los Blancos have definitely seen some better days lately but the start of the new 2019/20 La Liga campaign ended up not being so bad after all. They won their curtain-raiser against Celta Vigo away from home but then shared the spoils with Real Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Granted, this was not really what they probably had wished for but there were some positive takeaways for Zinedine Zidane and his troops.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

But not everyone impressed in the opening two games in Spanish top-flight so far and it seems that one of the players fans aren’t too happy with is Dani Carvajal.

It would not be a stretch to say that Carvajal is an important player in Real Madrid’s setup as he was a part of their most-used 11 in La Liga last season, but the 27-year-old defender was rather harshly targeted by fans on one of his latest Twitter posts.

Below, you can see a collection of tweets showing the fans’ feelings about the right-back at this moment in time.
