Trent Boult has been ruled out of the one-day series against England and the Champions Trophy due to a side strain. Ian Butler has been called into the New Zealand squad, in Boult’s place, for the two tournaments.*Left-arm pacer Boult picked up the injury early in England’s second innings at Headingley where he bowled just two overs. An MRI scan on Wednesday confirmed the initial diagnosis of a muscle tear in his right side and he is expected to make a full recovery in six to eight weeks.Boult was one of New Zealand’s standout performers in the Test series against England, taking 5 for 57 in the first innings of the second Test, and could have been a threat in the one-day matches although his record of six wickets in eight matches means he was by no means a certain starter with the return of Kyle Mills and Mitchell McClenaghan.Butler does not have far to travel to link up with the squad as he was already in the UK playing for the Lashings side. He hasn’t played a one-day international since February 2010 although was recalled to the Twenty20 side to face England earlier this year. In 26 ODIs he has 28 wickets at 37.07.Boult is the second player from New Zealand’s one-day squad to be hit by injury after Andrew Ellis suffered a fractured rib and was replaced by Doug Bracewell.Although the injuries are not ideal for New Zealand they are able to welcome back plenty of experience to their one-day squad as they aim to recover from the two heavy Test defeats at Lord’s and Headingley. Fast bowlers James Pattinson and Peter Siddle have signed for Melbourne Renegades for the next two seasons of the BBL. The franchise also re-signed the former Sri Lankan offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan for one year and confirmed two-year deals with legspinner Fawad Ahmed and batsman Alex Doolan.Both Pattinson and Siddle are expected to be on national duty for the 2013-14 Ashes and may only play for the franchise after the fifth Test ending January 7. The BBL, extended from this season, will run from December 20 to February 15.”I want to get back into playing short-form cricket,”Siddle said. “To have that opportunity again in four over bursts, having a crack and getting the pace up there. The Bombay High Court has said that the BCCI’s two-member committee that investigated and subsequently cleared the owners of the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings IPL franchises was constituted illegally. The BCCI, it said, will have to investigate the matter afresh.”The entire incident needs to be reinvestigated,” the High Court said, according to . “There was disparity in the evidence collected by the probe panel.”One of the petitioners, Naresh Mahtani, said the court’s focus was on the formation of the inquiry committee and it clearly found that it was not set up according to the BCCI’s constitution. “So whatever report has been passed over the last two days is technically null and void,” Mahtani said.His lawyer, Ameet Naik, said the petition – filed on June 21 by the Cricket Association of Bihar and its secretary, Aditya Verma – raised several issues of conflict of interest and the manner in which the probe panel was constituted. He said the BCCI’s reply to the court was not able to explain how and whether the probe panel was set up in accordance with its own constitution. “The formation of the panel is not according to the [BCCI] constitution and therefore everything must follow from there,” Naik said.He said the petition had sought a fresh panel to be set up but clarified that the court had not granted that plea. The BCCI can appeal the court order once it receives the text of the High Court order. One of its options is appealing to the Supreme Court. The court has left it to the BCCI to set up a fresh probe panel, though it is not under any compulsion to do so.*The court’s findings – delivered by a bench comprising justices SJ Vazifdar and MS Sonak – come two days after the committee submitted its report, which essentially cleared Super Kings owner India Cements, Royals co-owner Raj Kundra and Royals parent company Jaipur IPL Pvt Ltd of “wrongdoing”. “There is no evidence of any wrongdoing found by the judges against Raj Kundra, India Cements and Rajasthan Royals,” Niranjan Shah, a BCCI vice-president, had said after the BCCI’s working committee meeting in Kolkata. The hearing would take place before an Anti-Corruption Tribunal, a 10-member panel headed by the former chief justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury.Mosharraf was charged for alleged match-fixing in Dhaka Gladiators’ February 2 BPL match against Chittagong Kings earlier this year. Mahbubul, his Gladiators team-mate, was accused of fixing the matches against Barisal Burners and Chittagong Kings. Both players have claimed their innocence, and their lawyers have termed the allegations “baseless”.”These are baseless allegations,” Barrister Noorus Sadik Chowdhury told the daily after submitting a hardcopy of their appeal to the BCB, having already e-mailed it to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).”There is no specific allegation made on the basis of any substantial evidence. Because they had made the allegation on the basis of doubt, it can always be questioned.”Noorus also questioned whether the ICC and the ACSU had the right to investigate, claiming it does not follow the BCB’s code of conduct.”We doubt, according to the disciplinary code, whether ACSU and ICC have the authority to investigate this case,” Noorus said. “We are still in doubt about that and will be trying to prove that. In the Anti-Corruption Code of the BCB for the participant there are specific sections, and under this code ACSU and ICC are not the authority. They are not authorized to frame charges or investigate.”Advocate Saifuzzaman Tuhin has said that they had asked the BCB to lift the ban on the players.”In other countries, the accused are permitted to play, but that is not the case here,” Tuhin said. “So whether there is any conspiracy needs to be determined. We asked [the BCB] to withdraw the ban on them.”Noorus added that the players have been in turmoil following the allegations. “They are in a depressed state, as both of them are promising players and this kind of allegation at this point of time always puts you in an awkward situation,’ Noorus said. “Nevertheless, they are confident. They are not devastated, but they are upset.”
