كيف تعلمت التحدث باللغة الألمانية؟

“عندما كنت في عمر 18 عامًا، كنت في فريق الشباب وتعلمت اللغة الألمانية مرتين أو ثلاثة في الأسبوع لمدة ساعة ونصف، بالإضافة إلى تحدثي مع اللاعبين والمدربين، يمكنك القول إنني أُجبرت على ذلك ولكنه ساعدني كثيرًا”.

واستقرارك في ألمانيا؟

“كل شيء يسير بشكل جيد، كانت البداية صعبة بالطبع، لقد جئت من مصر وانتقلت إلى ثقافة مختلفة تمامًا، طعام مختلف تمامًا، لذلك كان التأقلم غير سهل، لأن في مصر هناك عاطفة نحو الأسرة واعتدت على الخروج مع أصدقائي”.

وما أهمية الإعارات بالنسبة لك في المواسم الماضية قبل العودة إلى فولفسبورج؟

“مهمة للغاية، لأنني لم أحظ بالفرصة للمشاركة أساسيًا مع الفريق الأول، أصبحت أكثر خبرة في الدوري الألماني، يتعين عليك الرجوع خطوة واحدة من أجل اتخاذ خطوتين للأمام، يقول البعض إن الذهاب إلى الدرجة الثانية مخاطرة، لكني أثق في قدراتي جيدًا وأردت اللعب أكثر وأثبت ذلك في سانت باولي ثم شتوتجارت”.

وماذا عن الموسم الحالي مع نيكو كوفاتش؟

“ما أمر به هذا الموسم جيد بالطبع، لقد بدأت الموسم بشكل رائع وسجلت هدفًا في كأس ألمانيا، مررنا ببعض المراحل الصعبة وكان علينا أن نفهم فكر وأسلوب المدرب، النتائج ليست في أفضل حال ولكني أحاول فعل كل ما يطلبه المدرب مني، أجيد اللعب في أكثر من مركز هجومي، وهو ما يجعلني لاعبًا مرنًا”.

ننتقل للحديث عن منتخب مصر بعد الخسارة أمام السنغال في مرتين، كيف أثر ذلك عليك؟

“بالطبع كنت محبطًا للغاية، بالنسبة لنا كلاعبين وللبلد بأكملها، كانوا يأملون في فوزنا ببطولة كأس إفريقيا وكذلك الصعود إلى كأس العالم، أرى الأمر مختلفًا بعض الشيء، كانت البطولة هي الأولى لي ونجحنا في الوصول إلى النهائي، مصر أكثر الدول نجاحًا في تلك البطولة ولذلك الفوز بها هو مطلب شعبي، ولكننا لم ننجح وحاولنا التعويض في تصفيات كأس العالم أمام السنغال لكن لم نصعد وكانتا خسارتين قاسيتين تمامًا ويجب أن نتعلم منهما”.

هل كنت تتمنى أن تسدد إحدى ركلات الجزاء في المباراتين؟

رد ضاحكًا: “كنت دائمًا استبدل قبل الوصول إلى تلك المرحلة، لكن بالطبع هو أمر مرهق في مثل هذه المواقف لأهميتها، لكني إذا تواجدت كنت سأسدد، لأنني أثق في قدراتي في تنفيذ ركلات الجزاء”.

انت تلعب مع محمد صلاح، ماذا تعلمت منه؟

“من النادر أن تلعب بجوار لاعب مثله وتتعلم منه، بلا شك هو أحد أفضل لاعبي العالم، يساعدني داخل وخارج الملعب، كل عوامل النجاح متوفرة فيه بعيدًا عن أسلوبه، وهذا هو الفارق بين النجوم العالميين والمحترفين العاديين، تفاصيل صغيرة تؤهلك إلى مستوى أفضل”.

ما هي نقاط قوتك؟

“أعتقد سرعتي وكذلك مراوغاتي وحسمي للفرص أمام المرمى، أعرف أيضًا نقاط ضعفي وأعمل على تقويتها، لدي دائمًا خدعي الهجومية وأجيد المشاركة في النواحي الدفاعية لمساعدة زملائي، قدمي اليسرى هي أحد الأشياء التي أريد أن أحسنها في المستقبل”.

“هدفنا واضح هو التأهل إلى بطولة أوروبية، يبدو الأمر صعبًا الآن، لكن يمكن أن يحدث أي شيء في كرة القدم، لدينا فرصة للقيام بذلك، لم نبدأ الموسم بشكل جيد، ولكن يمكننا اللحاق بركب المنافسين”.

وعن الفوز والتعادل أمام شتوتجارت وأوجسبورج: “تسجيل هدف الفوز على شتوتجارت في الدقائق الأخيرة منحنا دفعة معنوية كبيرة، كانت مباراة صعبة كذلك في أوجسبورج، مع وجود الجماهير لكننا تمكنا من إظهار قوتنا، هناك بعض الأخطاء ولكننا نصححها للمستقبل”.

Even though Aston Villa have been fairly active in the current January transfer window, having brought in the likes of Lucas Digne, Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen, there are still some areas where Steven Gerrard would ideally like to strengthen, such as centre-back and defensive midfield.

However, with just 10 days left until the window closes, it seems as though the Midlands club can forget about signing one of their reported targets this month.

What’s the latest?

In a recent online Q&A for Birmingham Live, Villa journalist Ashley Preece was asked if there is any news on the possibility of the club making a move to sign Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez this month, after previous links emerged suggesting that Steven Gerrard’s side were interested in bringing the 24-year-old to Villa Park.

In response, Preece said: “Gomez not happening this month, Villa could go back in in the summer, depending if the centre-back wants a fresh challenge away from Anfield.”

Since joining Liverpool back in 2015 from Charlton Athletic, Gomez has gone on to make 132 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side across all competitions, winning a Premier League title and the Champions League along the way.

Taking into account how he has only made 11 appearances for the Merseyside club across all competitions so far this season, with no starts in the Premier League, a move to Villa could have been rather tempting for the 24-year-old, especially if he would be guaranteed regular game-time under Gerrard’s guidance.

Gerrard will be fuming

Given how Villa only have three senior centre-backs in their squad at the moment after Axel Tuanzebe had his loan spell cut short by Manchester United earlier this month, Gerrard will surely be fuming that the Villans haven’t been able to secure a deal for Gomez to come in and strengthen their options at the back.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the transfer window, Gerrard will definitely be concerned if the club don’t bring at least one centre-back in for the rest of the campaign, especially with Villa having conceded 32 goals in the Premier League so far – more than the likes of Burnley, Crystal Palace and Brighton.

It is understood that the allegations first came to light a month ago, but Paul Grayson, the head coach, told reporters: “I am not allowed to comment on the matter.”Essex were at the centre of an investigation back in 1994, when their former seamer, Don Topley, alleged that collusion had taken place towards the end of the 1991 county season, when Essex were closing in on the Championship, and their opponents, Lancashire, were close to securing the Sunday League title.According to Topley, Lancashire agreed to bowl badly in their three-day fixture in exchange for a quid pro quo in the one-day match that took place midway through the longer game.
