Rangers have been linked with a move for Caleb Chukwuemeka recently and the 19-year-old could be the man to replace Jermain Defoe in Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, Rangers are interested in signing the Northampton Town striker, although it is Aston Villa who have made the first official move to sign him, as they saw an offer rebuffed by the League Two side recently.

The Villans arguably hold an advantage over Rangers in the race to sign him, as his younger brother Carney plays for their academy, but Gerrard will be hoping that he can be tempted into a move to Ibrox.

Despite featuring 28 times for the Cobblers’ senior side, Chukwuemeka is yet to sign a professional deal with the club and will reportedly become a free agent in January, which suggests that he could be a very cheap option for the Gers this summer.

Jermain Defoe’s heir?

Defoe recently signed a new one-year contract at Rangers but will take on some coaching work as his influence in the first-team dwindles, and Chukwuemeka could be the man to step up as his replacement when he does eventually retire from professional football.

The 38-year-old has scored 32 goals in his 72 appearances for Rangers thus far and is always likely to pop up with a goal when he does play due to the incredible goalscoring instincts that he possesses.

It bodes well for the future that he will be coaching some of Rangers’ brightest prospects and if Chukwuemeka were to arrive at Ibrox, Defoe would no doubt be in regular conversation with him on how he can improve his game.

The teenage forward has scored twice in his senior career thus far but is highly regarded at the League Two club, with former manager Keith Curle singing his praises last season, saying:

“Caleb has got an unpredictability about him and he can be unorthodox at times. What we’re trying to do is get the fundamentals in place in his play without taking away that excitement and that freedom in his play.”

If Chukwuemeka does arrive at Ibrox and starts to score consistently, there’s no reason why he can’t be the long-term replacement for Defoe at Rangers, so Ross Wilson should definitely be looking to bring him in.

ويخوض مانشستر سيتي مباراة حاسمة يوم الأحد القادم أمام أستون فيلا، ويتصدر فريق جوارديولا ترتيب البريميرليج بفارق نقطة عن الوصيف ليفربول الذي سيواجه ولفرهامبتون في نفس اليوم.

وتحدث جوارديولا في مؤتمر صحفي خاص بالمباراة وافتتح الحديث عن غزو الجماهير للملعب كما حدث من جمهور إيفرتون في المباراة أمام كريستال بالاس.

وقال جوارديولا: “يجب أن تكون حذرًا، إنه أمر خطير، علينا أن نحاول التصرف بشكل جيد قدر الإمكان، والاحتفال بالطريقة الصحيحة في اللحظة المناسبة، ما حدث بالأمس خطير، أفهم باتريك فييرا (اعتدائه على احد الجماهير)، فأنت لا تعرف أبدًا كيف سيكون رد فعل الناس”.

وحول تغيير إرادته للفوز أفاد: “قبل أن نفوز باللقب الأول، ستكون أكثر اللحظات روعة في حياتنا، في اليوم الذي يلي شعورك يبدأ الناس في المطالبة بالمزيد، الرضا موجود، لكن بعد يوم، ينسى ذلك، من الأفضل أن يكون من هذا القبيل”.

وواصل: “لدينا تركيز لا يصدق لمحاولة القيام بذلك، في النهاية، لم يتغير الشعور كثيرًا، نحاول أن نكون أنفسنا، ونفعل ما نحتاج إلى القيام به، كرة القدم هي لعبة عاطفية، لكنها لعبة، واللعبة تعني الحظ، ألف شيء لا يمكنك التحكم فيه”.

وتابع جوارديولا: “الطريقة التي نلعب بها، معظم الوقت نلعب من أجل الفوز، هناك جوانب لا يمكننا السيطرة عليها، إذا كنت تريد ذلك لا يمكنك التحكم، ويمكن أن يحدث شيء ما، لديك رغبة متزايدة في الفوز، سنكون سعداء للغاية، بعد يوم أو اثنين أو ثلاثة أيام، نستمر في البدء من جديد”.

وإذا كان اللاعبون قلقين بشأن غزو الجمهور للملعب، أفاد جوارديولا: “نحن لا نتحدث عن ذلك، وأعتقد أننا لن نتحدث عن ذلك”.

وبشأن كيفية تاثير كرة القدم الإنجليزية عليه، استطرد: “لدي رؤية للأسلوب، لكنها تعتمد على اللاعبين، الطريقة التي لعبنا بها في برشلونة، بايرن ميونخ، هنا، اللاعبون مختلفون، الأمر مختلف تمامًا، عليك أن تتكيف مع لاعبيك”.

وشدد: “لقد أعطوني الكثير، المشاكل التي خلقوها كفريق واحد، بالتأكيد نحن أفضل مما كنا عليه عندما بدأنا قبل 6 سنوات، بالنسبة للاعبين، المنافسين، للوصول إلى هذه المراحل، عليك أن تعاني كثيرًا، هذا هو السبب في أنها صعبة للغاية”.

A number of Manchester City fans are delighted with news that talks with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish are at an advanced stage.

The Citizens are ramping up their preparations for the 2021/22 campaign as the kick-off edges ever closer. Last season, Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League and Carabao Cup but missed out on the Champions League after losing to Chelsea in the final – they will duly be hoping to go one better next year.

City have not spent money on any incomings so far this summer, but they have been heavily linked with moves for both Harry Kane and £58.5m-valued Grealish (Transfermarkt). It has now been reported by The Athletic journalist Sam Lee that negotiations in regards to the latter are ‘at an advanced stage’.

The 25-year-old excelled for Aston Villa last season, with seven goals and 12 assists in all competitions, and also made his mark at Euro 2020 during England’s run to the final.

West Bromwich Albion are interested in a deal to bring Matty Longstaff to The Hawthorns this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Chronicle Live, who claim that Newcastle United are willing to sanction the temporary departure of the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window, with Steve Bruce recognising the fact that the central midfielder needs to be playing regular minutes next season in order to further his development.

The report added that, as a result of his availability on loan, there is a great deal of interest in the former England under-20 international, with Anderlecht, Norwich City and West Brom all thought to be lining up an offer for the Magpies youngster.

Longstaff can solve Albion’s midfield issues

There has been something of an exodus from the West Brom midfield since the end of last season. With all three loan signings of Okay Yokuslu, Conor Gallagher and Ainsley Maitland-Niles returning to their parent clubs, as well as both Rekeem Harper and Sam Field leaving the club on permanent deals this summer, Valerien Ismael has been left with a distinct lack of depth in the middle of the park.

Indeed, despite the signing of his former Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt, the Frenchman currently has just three players capable of operating in either defensive or central midfield.

As such, the position would very much appear to be something of an issue for the 45-year-old ahead of the club’s upcoming campaign, but the possible addition of Longstaff would be a very big step in the right direction for the Baggies boss.

Having burst onto the Newcastle United scene back in the club’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign, scoring the winner against Manchester United on his top-flight debut, the £4.5m-rated youngster went on to make another eight appearances in the league that season, scoring one further goal, creating one big chance for his teammates and averaging a solid SofaScore match rating of 6.61.

As a result of this breakthrough season, and with his contract at St. James’ Park being set to expire, interest was high in the midfielder the following summer, with Udinese reported to have offered a five-year deal to the man Martin Keown dubbed “like a Paul Scholes”.

However, after ultimately deciding to remain with Newcastle, Longstaff’s progress appeared to stagnate somewhat last season, with Bruce affording the midfielder just four Premier League starts, as well as one further appearance from the bench.

However, this lack of first team game-time in no way diminishes the potential the £24k-per-week man quite clearly possesses. It something from which Albion could well benefit greatly in their push for promotion next season should they go on to secure a deal for the midfielder this summer.

O Sport exerceu a prioridade de compra sobre parte dos direitos do econômicos do atacante Rogério, que era ligado ao São Paulo, e adquiriu o direito de tê-lo em definitivo até 2021. Com a compra, o Sport frustra os planos do técnico Rogério Ceni, que esperava ter o atacante de volta ao São Paulo. Isso aconteceria se o clube pernambucano não exercesse a compra até o fim do abril, quando venceria o empréstimo do jogador. Agora, ele assinou um novo vínculo válido até 2021, com possibilidade de prorrogar por mais um.
