Seamus Coleman proved to be Carlo Ancelotti’s hero as Everton were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Toffees had a host of chances to put distance between themselves and Roy Hodgson’s visiting Eagles, but a sole strike from James Rodriguez proved to be all the Blues could convert on the Colombian’s return from a calf injury.

Ancelotti’s men were made to pay for their string of missed opportunities entering the final five minutes of regulation time, as Michy Batshuayi capitalised on Everton backing off to drill the ball home past Robin Olsen.

Everton will rue dropping two points at home to Crystal Palace in a blow to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, with a top-four place now out of their control despite retaining a game in hand over all sides above them in the table.

Ancelotti will need to see his side improve their home form if the Toffees are to claim a European berth, with Monday’s result seeing the Italian’s outfit fail to win when scoreless at the break for the seventh time in succession across all competitions.

Only Fulham (10), Sheffield United (10), West Bromwich Albion (11), Brighton & Hove Albion (13) and Newcastle United (17) have also claimed fewer Premier League points when playing at home this term than Everton (18).

The Blues may have snapped their unwanted recent record at Goodison Park had Coleman still been on the field when Batshuayi pulled the Eagles level, having ghosted in behind the ball-watching Michael Keane while Ben Godfrey was too far away to react to the danger.

Ancelotti had replaced Coleman with Godfrey with a quarter of an hour left on the clock as a likely precaution, after the £6.5m-rated gem played all 270 minutes for the Republic of Ireland over the international break.

Crystal Palace gave Coleman all the time in the world to pick out a teammate after Vicente Guaita could only push Gylfi Sigurdsson’s shot along the byline, and teed up Rodriguez to rifle a right-footed effort into the bottom corner.

Rodriguez’s goal marked one of three chances Coleman created on Monday night, which was the most by any player for either side at the time of his substitution and remained a joint game-high by the full-time whistle, per WhoScored.

Coleman further made two successful tackles for a joint team-high over the full 90 minutes, to match his average 1.8 per Premier League game for the season on top of eclipsing his average 0.6 key passes.

Ancelotti will undoubtedly have been impressed by Coleman’s performance, especially considering his involvement in the March internationals, while Olsen blotted his copybook after a strong showing between the posts before Batshuayi’s equalising goal.

Olsen produced a number of comfortable saves to deny Eberechi Eze, Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew on his return from an abdominal injury, but arguably left too much of the far post for Batshuayi to aim at.

According to Football Insider, Southampton are keeping tabs on midfielder Harry Winks ahead of the summer transfer window.

As such, the Saints are said to interested in taking him to the south coast, with Ralph Hasenhuttl seemingly on the hunt for reinforcements in the middle of the park considering they are also said to be eyeing Yangel Herrera.

Hasenhuttl and co should make Winks one of their top targets for the summer. While he has not played too much this campaign, he has managed 167 appearances for Spurs throughout his career, has considerable Champions League and Europa League experience, and also has 10 caps for England to his name.

Former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is a huge fan of the 25-year-old, previously comparing him to Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez (Goal.com), while former Spurs coach Russell Small said he plays like Zinedine Zidane – high praise indeed. Those comparisons may be over-the-top, but they illustrate the talent Winks possesses.

At Southampton, under the tutelage of Hasenhuttl and with a bigger role in the team, the central midfielder could go some way to fulfilling his potential. For the potential fee of between £15m and £20m, which is what Tottenham are said to be looking for, it could be an absolute bargain (The Daily Mirror).

Sunderland fans appear to be very happy after Lee Johnson revealed ahead of the Blackpool clash that Dion Sanderson will not miss the rest of the season as initially expected.

The Black Cats’ hopes of automatic promotion are in trouble following a couple of disappointing results. First, they were beaten by Charlton Athletic 2-1 before losing by the same scoreline to Wigan Athletic, who are currently struggling to stay in League One. They currently trail second-placed Peterborough United by five points with six games left to play (BBC).

They were then hit with another blow when it appeared Sanderson would miss the rest of the season due to injury (Roker Report). However, prior to the Wearside outfit’s clash with Blackpool this weekend, manager Johnson has revealed Sanderson should be fit before the end of the season (James Hunter).

The news appeared to please the club’s supporters, and they were quick to take to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts on the matter when the news broke.

Leeds United are expected to be without three key players for their Premier League clash with reigning champions Liverpool.

The Whites are still basking in the glory of their 2-1 win away to Manchester City last weekend, in what was a famous top-flight victory.

Marcelo Bielsa and his players are now preparing for the visit of Liverpool next Monday, in what promises to be an entertaining contest, given the last meeting saw seven goals.

Leeds aren’t without their injury problems ahead of the game, however, and it looks as though several big players will be absent against the Reds.

According to The Athletic‘s Tom Worville on Twitter, Liam Cooper, Raphinha and Rodrigo could all miss out on Monday night, acting as a blow to Bielsa.

Cooper is suspended after picking up a red card at City, while the two attackers are expected to be out for at least seven days, per The Athletic’s injury chart, which would of course rule them out also.

Cooper and Raphinha’s absences are particularly key for Leeds, with the former so consistent at the back this season and the latter one of the stars of the campaign at Elland Road.

Raphinha’s quality will be missed because it would have made Andy Robertson less likely to attack, as the Scot is playing alongside two inexperienced centre-backs, not to mention the Brazilian’s six goals and six assists.

Instead, it may give the Reds full-back more encouragement to push on, allowing him to link-up with either Sadio Mane or Diogo Jota down the left flank, and perhaps causing further trouble for a Leeds defence without their captain.
