The international break is usually a bearer of bad news for many football clubs, never mind Glasgow Rangers. But Steven Gerrard may have been left feeling a little bit aggrieved after Nigeria were held to a 4-4 draw by Sierra Leone in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Both Rangers first-team regular starters Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun were named in the starting line-up by manager Gernot Rohr, but Nigeria threw away a four-goal lead as Sierra Leone staged a spectacular comeback at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Everton ace Alex Iwobi bagged a brace as the Super Eagles looked set to continue their perfect start to the AFCON qualifiers as they cruised towards a third win from three games in Group L after scoring four goals inside the first half hour.

Rohr set his side up in his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, with Aribo deployed in a holding role as part of a midfield three along with Iwobi and Stoke City loanee Oghenekaro Etebo.

Nigeria enjoyed a whopping 62% of the possession of the ball but they couldn’t make their dominance in possession count when it mattered the most.

Several players were at fault for the poor performance overall but Aribo was the real culprit. At the best of times he looked off the pace, others he was caught slacking as the Leone Stars began their fightback just before half-time.

Goal gave the 24-year-old a low grade of 5/10 for his efforts, insisting ‘his languid style often left Etebo exposed in the defensive phase’, adding he wasn’t ‘as influential in a midfield pairing with the Stoke City loanee’, whilst Premium Times Nigeria were even more scathing in their assessment, claiming he was ‘very culpable as his doodling on the ball led to the second Sierra Leone goal’ and ‘he didn’t take as much care of his forward passes as he normally would and played within himself.’

Perhaps this game was simply a case of too much, too soon for Aribo in such a short space of time after spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The 4-cap Nigeria international missed a substantial chunk of the season after he suffered an ankle injury in training, which saw him ruled out for several weeks.

Since then, he has scored three goals in four games in the Scottish Premiership, having made a full recovery, which brings his total to four goals in ten games so far this season. He bagged a brace as the Light Blues battered Hamilton Academical in a 8-0 win at home before the international break.

Even so, Aribo probably deserved a well-earned rest as he has played seven games in a row so far. Instead, he delivered a sub-par performance as a result, as he looked tired towards the end of the game. Is it any wonder, really? Gerrard will be hoping he is rested for the rematch next week, that’s for sure.

ويحل برشلونة غدًا السبت ضيفًا على سيلتا فيجو، في تمام الساعة الخامسة والربع بتوقيت القاهرة، على ملعب “بالايدوس”، وذلك ضمن لقاءات الجولة الثالثة عشر من الدوري الإسباني.

وقال بارجوان في المؤتمر الصحفي الخاص بالمباراة: “نحن نعلم أن سيلتا فيجو سيحاولون الضغط علينا بقوة حتى نُخطئ في الخروج بالكرة، إنهم يضغطون بقوة ونعرف أن سيكون في انتظارنا مباراة صعبة، لكن أولويتنا هي الحصول على الكرة، وإذا حدث ذلك سيتعين عليهم الركض”.

وبسؤاله “هل كان من الخطأ جعل ديمبلي يلعب نصف ساعة أمام دينامو كييف؟، أجاب: “أعتقد أن الجميع كانوا سعداء بعد المباراة، لقد رأينا ديمبلي يلعب وظهر بشكل جيد، لقد أصيب للأسف بعد أن أخذ قسطا من الراحة”.

وردًا على “هل ترى أنك ترحل وإرثك إيجابي؟”، قال: “لست مضطرًا لقول هذا، كل شخص لديه أشخاص يؤيدون ويعارضون، واعتمادًا على النتائج يتحدثون بشكل أفضل أو أسوأ، لقد حاولت تنفيذ ما كنت أتعلمه على مرّ السنين، لقد حاولت أن أساهم تكتيكيًا بأشياء صغيرة أعتقد أنها نجحت”.

وأضاف: “يجب أن تكون هُناك استمرارية في ما نفعله، إذا حققنا النصر غدًا، فسنكون أفضل لمواجهة التحديات الجديدة، يجب أن يكون المدرب على علم بمكان وجوده، كنت أعلم أن فترة عملي 15 يومًا، كان علي أن أضع ثقتي فيهم اليوم رأيت الكثير من الناس يضحكون”.

وواصل: “خلال هذه الفترة تعلمت الكثير، واللاعبون علموني بعض الأشياء، سأعود يوم الأحد إلى برشلونة ب، وأنا حاولت أن أكون صادقًا وشفافًا كما كنت دائمًا لقد حاولت أن أكون قريبًا من اللاعبين”.

وأتبع: “كنت أعلم أن لديّ تاريخ انتهاء صلاحية هُنا، ولم أفكر في إمكانية العودة مرة أخرى، فكرت في الحصول على أفضل النتائج من اللاعبين ومن نفسي، أنا لا أفعل الأشياء أبدًا من أجل وقت لاحق، انا في الحاضر يجب أن أتساءل عما يمكنني فعله لتحسين الأمور، لقد استمتعت هذه الأيام وتعلمت، وهذا يكفي بالنسبة لي، لأنه يخدم المستقبل”.

وبسؤاله “لأي مدى يُمكن لهذا الفريق أن يذهب؟”، أجاب: “أعتقد أنه في النهاية، اللاعبون هم من يتحدثون على أرض الملعب، سيكون برشلونة في القمة وسيجعلونه جيدًا”.

وتابع: “عليهم اتباع ما يُطلب منهم وأن يعملوا بهدوء، غدًا هُناك مباراة هامة في انتظارنا وفي ملعب كان دائمًا صعبًا بالنسبة لنا على مدار تاريخنا”.

وردًا على “الآن بعد أن كنت مع هذا الفريق لبضعة أيام، هل يجعلك حزينًا للاعتقاد بأنها قد تكون المباراة الأخيرة؟، أجاب: “هذا طبيعي، عندما يكون لديك مثل هذه الحلوى الحلوة، لكنني كنت أعرف بالفعل”.

واستكمل: “لقد شرح لي النادي الموقف، وعرفت أن لديّ تاريخ انتهاء، لكنني سعيد، يبقى بالنسبة لي إقناع اللاعبين بأن يكونوا شجعان كما في كييف”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “نحن نُدرك سيلتا فيجو سيجعلنا غدًا نركض كثيرًا، وأنت كمدرب لا تحب أن تتذوق هذه الحلوى لكن هذه وظيفتي وأنا أعرف ما هو موجود، وأعتقد أن التغييرات الصغيرة التي أجريتها في الفريق قد انعكست في الملعب”.

A polêmica em torno da contratação de Juan Cazares pelo Atlético-MG ganhou mais um ato nesta terça-feira. No dia seguinte ao jogador de 23 anos ser apresentado pelo clube mineiro e a chegada do equatoriano fazer o Banfield (ARG) ameaçar acionar o Galo na Fifa, o Independiente Del Valle (EQU) divulgou seu ponto de vista sobre o caso.

Em nota, o clube no qual Cazares iniciou sua trajetória no futebol disse desconhecer o depósito pela compra dos direitos econômicos do equatoriano. Em seguida, o Del Valle acusou o Banfield (ARG) de ter violado o contrato:

“O Club Atlético Banfield violou o contrato por não pagar o mencionado valor do empréstimo acordado de US$ 50 mil dólares (R$ 200 mil), em 30 de julho de 2015. O mesmo que a data não foi feita, em parte ou completamente, apesar do pedido em tempo útil pelo Clube IDV, em carta enviada em 27 de agosto de 2015. Além disso, o Clube Atlético Banfield também não fez uso da opção que foi definida como prazo 30 de novembro de 2015”.

Além disto, o clube equatoriano afirmou que o desejo de Cazares falou mais alto em relação à negociação:

“O jogador Juan Cazares indicou seu desejo de não jogar no Club Atlético Banfield”.

O Independiente Del Valle ainda ratificou que os direitos econômicos do meia são do clube:

“Nós não aceitamos a afirmação no sentido de que o jogador tinha assinado um contrato de trabalho válido com o Clube Atlético Banfield. O jogador, portanto, tinha os direitos federais ligados ao IDV por contrato de trabalho. Para as implicações legais deste caso, IDV não faz mais declarações públicas sobre mais esta situação”.

Johan Lange can redefine his vision for Aston Villa by ensuring Dean Smith utilises the “immense potential” of Lamare Bogarde, after a successful summer fighting off premier competition for the Netherlands Under 16 international.

According to The Athletic, Villa were aggressive in the summer market striving to lock up the services of a string of 16-year-olds ahead of the impact Brexit will have on signing youth players.

Premier League clubs will no longer be able to sign players under the age of 18 from overseas clubs as of January 1, while only able to add three aged under 21 this winter and six per season after that.

The new framework has been introduced to help ensure the future competitiveness of the England national side post-Brexit, as the Football Association believe now presents a chance to boost the selection hopes of homegrown players.

وينتهي عقد محمد صلاح مع ليفربول في يونيو 2023، وهناك رغبة من قبل النادي الإنجليزي في التجديد، ولكن لم يتوصل الطرفان بعد إلى أي اتفاق بشأن التوقيع.

وقال جونسون في تصريحات لصحيفة “ليفربول إيكو” البريطانية: “نحن نعلم متى يجدد ليفربول عقود اللاعبين ومتى يتعاقدون مع اللاعبين، فالأمر كله يتعلق بالأرقام والإحصائيات”.

وأضاف: “سيفعلون ذلك فقط إذا قال جهاز الكمبيوتر الخاص بهم ذلك، إذا عرض عليهم مبلغ كبير من المال، قد يكون ذلك مغريًا، لكنك لا تعرف ما سيأتي لهم”.

وواصل: “أنا متأكد أن ليفربول سيكون لديه سيناريو بشأن محمد صلاح، إذ جاء عرض قوي ربما يرحل، وإذا لم يكن ذلك فهم سيحتفظون بمو، سيفوزون في النهاية”.

واسترسل: “لا أستطيع أن أرى أي مهاجم غيره، إذا سألتني عن الأفضل سأختاره في الوقت الحالي، إنه الاختيار الأفضل بالنسبة لي ويعود ذلك كله إلى عمله الشاق، محمد صلاح يحافظ على نفسه في حالة جيدة، من الواضح أنه يتدرب بقوة ووجد الكثير من الثقة والإيمان بنفسه، وهذا ما دفعه للتو إلى منصة جديدة”.
