After seven games of the Premier League season, Southampton striker Danny Ings would probably have preferred a better start.

The former Liverpool striker has mustered just two goals in his seven league appearances, recording an average rating of 6.67 from WhoScored for his efforts so far.

However, one thing has been somewhat masking his underwhelming start to the campaign.

What is it?

Goalkeeping errors.

Ings’ two goals have both come courtesy of goalkeeping errors by the opposition.

His first Premier League goal of the season came after Liverpool stopper Adrian smashed the ball at him in an attempt to clear his lines, before it rifled beyond the Spaniard into his own net.

Following that blunder, the one-cap England international netted his second Premier League goal this term after Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris tried to be too clever with the ball inside his six-yard box, where Ings robbed him and tapped home.

Neither of Ings’ two goals were of his own making – although you could praise his desire to press – but without those two mistakes, the Southampton No.9’s poor form would probably be more exposed.

What’s going wrong for Ings?

After moving to St Mary’s in a deal worth a fairly significant sum of £20m, you would expect more of Ings given how much he cost.

Since becoming a Saint, the 27-year-old has scored just nine goals in 31 Premier League appearances, a strike rate that isn’t too impressive for a player meriting such a fee, while also being one of international pedigree with experience of playing for Liverpool.

Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn’t seem to fancy Ings too much either, seeing as the Austrian has started the forward in just four of the Saints’ seven league games so far this term.

His double against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup will hopefully do him some good, but as of now, goalkeeping errors are helping to mask Ings’ poor form in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen if he can climb out of the hole he currently finds himself in and actually start making things happen for himself.

وقال يوفيتش في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “النهار” عبر برنامج “أوضة اللبس”: “أسباب فشل جيرالدو مع الأهلي، أعتقد أن الأمر يتعلق بأسلوب اللعب هنا في الدوري مقارنة بالدوري الأنجولي”.

وأضاف: “جيرالدو عندما كان لاعب في بريميرو دي أوجوستو لعب بطريقة مختلفة  كان يلعب في الهجوم لم يكن لديه مهام دفاعية، لأن المدربين أخبروه بأن عليه التركيز في الهجوم فقط ولم يجد ذلك في الدوري المصري”.

وتابع: “جيرالدو لاعب كبير وأعتقد أنه ممكن أن ينجح في الدوري التركي، لكن في الأهلي تحديدًا من الصعب لأي لاعب أن يتميز بين باقي اللاعبين”.

واختتم: “لم أتحدث مع جيرالدو في الفترة الأخيرة لأنني غادرت أنجولا منذ ثلاث سنوات”.

وكان جيرالدو قد أنضم إلى صفوف الأهلي في فترة الانتقالات الشتوية لموسم 2018-2019، قبل أن يرحل بعد موسمين بالتمام والكمال، عن طريق فسخ التعاقد بينه وبين القلعة الحمراء.

Tottenham were on the receiving end of a 7-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich on Tuesday, leading some West Ham fans to consider the future of Mauricio Pochettino.

Many Hammers fans will be thrilled to see the decline of their rivals, and it has been some fall from grace for Spurs.

A matter of months ago they were Champions League finalists but they have started the season with only three wins in ten games, and the latest humiliation, as well as player dissatisfaction, could create pressure on the Argentine.

Some fans are doubtful that Pochettino will be in north London for the long-term, with one fan even suggesting he may be manager of Manchester United by Christmas, whilst others are enjoying his and Tottenham’s downfall.

Despite that, many reject the proposal that he will be sacked, instead believing the former Southampton boss is more likely to leave of his own volition, which may not be surprising given the current state of affairs.

Here is some of the reaction from West Ham fans to the future of Pochettino.

Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet needed a late winner from young substitute Odin Bailey to put an end to their run of three straight defeats.

The teenager popped up in the 89th minute with a close-range header just minutes after Middlesbrough had bundled in what looked to be a point-salvaging equaliser through Daniel Ayala.

But the 19-year-old’s first goal for the club handed the Blues a much-deserved victory, considering they recorded 26 attempts at goal in comparison to Boro’s five, per WhoScored.

Fran Villalba also bagged his maiden strike for Birmingham just after the half-hour mark as he slotted home an excellent first-time finish past Darren Randolph, with the assist coming from right-back Maxime Colin.

The 27-year-old has received a lot of praise on social media following his performance in the game as a whole, not just because he assisted their opener.

One supporter claimed Colin was the best right-back in the league while another went one step further to call him the best in the world.

Other members of the St Andrew’s crowd used the words ‘unreal,’ ‘unbelievable’ and ‘sublime’ to describe his showing.

Dele Alli is one of a number of Tottenham players who are struggling to hit top form, and some fans are debating if his poor performances are due to him being played out of position.

The England international burst onto the scene and won many plaudits for his attacking threat and potency in front of goal – but that aspect of his game has dropped off in recent months.

In 2019 he has just one goal and five assists in 22 games, only playing four games so far this campaign, and has often been plagued by injury.

When he has featured he has often looked out of sorts, with an average WhoScored rating of 6.3 this term, and some supporters have pointed the blame at Mauricio Pochettino for playing him too deep.

Some argue he is most effective playing just behind Kane where he can take-up goalscoring positions, suggesting he has been hindered by the presence of Christian Eriksen, but others think that he has declined due to a lack of confidence and a bad habit of holding onto the ball for too long.

The lacklustre displays of the 6 foot 1 star will likely be an area of concern for Pochettino, and he could look to do what fans want by allowing him to play higher up the pitch.

وعن ليفربول: “بكل تأكيد ليفربول مؤسسة رائعة، نادٍ تاريخي، ودائمًا ما يساهم في عظمة هذه البطولة، وسيكون خصمًا عنيدًا، لديه خط هجوم خطير للغاية”.

West Brom have announced the signing of Cheikh Diaby on a free transfer after impressing manager Slaven Bilic over the international break while on trial.

What’s the word?

The 19-year-old will be drafted into the U23 squad in order to get him up to speed with valuable game time.

Diaby left Le Harve’s renowned academy during the summer after the expiry of his contract, and he very nearly became a La Liga player until that deal fell through.

Valencia had agreed to sign the young striker when Marcelino was in charge, but the man to guide them to Copa del Rey triumph was sacked just three games into the new season, meaning the deal was pulled as Albert Celades took over.

Sporting and technical director Luke Dowling said: “We have taken an opportunity to give a promising young striker the chance to develop with us. We will see what the future will bring.”

Soule’s senior shot

The Premier League has seen many a Le Harve academy graduate grace the pitch over the last few years – most notably, the likes of Paul Pogba, Riyad Mahrez, Dimitri Payet, and Benjamin Mendy all have played in the Ligue 2 club’s youth ranks at some point early in their careers.

Diaby, therefore, could be given a shot to follow suit in the west Midlands.

Just over a week ago, the Baggies extended the deal of one of their more promising youngsters as Jamie Soule signed a new three-year contract at the Hawthorns.

This move to bring in Diaby could mean that the 18-year-old gets a crack at contending for a spot in the senior side.

Soule is clearly the primary weapon in the U23 squad having scored four goals in six appearances this season in the Premier League 2, but this latest decision to bring another striker into the youth setup could suggest that more significant opportunities elsewhere are arising as a result.

Charlie Austin has scored just the one league goal this campaign while Kenneth Zohore is failing to make a name for himself amongst sections of the Baggies support, so it could be smart to increase their competition by promoting Soule.

Bring in another forward like Diaby to use in the U23s would certainly allow them to do that.
