The international break may have come at the worst possible time for Nottingham Forest.

Following an opening day defeat against West Brom, they’ve now gone unbeaten in five straight matches which sees them sit tenth in the Championship and two of their last three results had been nothing short of spectacular.

Forest downed playoff occupying Fulham at Craven Cottage before trouncing arch-rivals Derby in the Carabao Cup, so they may have wanted to keep that run going, but September’s international matches have put an end to that.

Though, it shouldn’t be considered a bad thing at all. In fact, it could be game-changing for their playoff hopes.

Manager Sabri Lamouchi was appointed at the end of June, rather suddenly as Martin O’Neill was sacked, so the time he had available with his team before the start of the 2019/20 campaign was minuscule.

Eight matches in a month quickly followed, so the former Ivory Coast manager probably relished the opportunity for some further time with his squad away from the intensity and pressures of competing within a match.

It gives the chance to implement further the way he wants his side to play, the styles, the tactical nuances that just can’t be filtered through when games come quick and fast.

Another key benefit is the fact he has pretty much all of his squad available to train – only Aro Muric (Kosovo) and Brennan Johnson (Wales U21) are away on international duty so that will only help instil his philosophy even more.

It also means Joao Carvalho is able to fully integrate his place back amongst the starting line-up following an injury that kept him out for the start of the season and has restricted him to just two substitute appearances.

Even Joe Lolley missed a game through injury, so it gives enough time to ensure that his problem has fully settled too.

وقال جوتي في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “ديفنسا سنترال” الإسبانية: “حتى الحكام ليسوا واضحين، عندما تكون هُناك لمسة يد!”.

وأضاف: “حكم الفيديو المُساعد شهد ركلة جزاء لذلك أخبره، إنها المرة الأولى التي أرى فيها حكمًا يذهب إلى الشاشة للتحقق ولا يعطي ركلة جزاء!”.

أكد شوقي غريب المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر الأولمبي، أن منتخب جنوب إفريقيا طلب مواجهة منتخب مصر الأولمبي وديًا خلال معسكر شهر مارس الجاري.

ويستعد منتخب مصر الأولمبي للمشاركة في أولمبياد طوكيو المقبلة، بعدما توج ببطولة كأس الأمم الإفريقية تحت 23 سنة، التي أقيمت في مصر.

وقال شوقي غريب في تصريحات خاصة لـ”بطولات”: “إقامة معسكر شهر مارس خارج مصر سيكون صعبًا للغاية في هذا التوقيت، العالم مغلق والقيود كثيرة بسبب فيروس كورونا”.

تابع: “هناك عرض من جنوب إفريقيا لخوض مباراتين وديتين في مصر خلال معسكر شهر مارس الجاري”.

وواصل: “عرض جنوب إفريقيا سيتم تقديمه إلى اللجنة الثلاثية والطبية باتحاد الكرة لإبداء الرأي فيه واتخاذ الموافقة على إقامة الوديتين”.

Former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu has told Goal.com that Premier League teams are “already afraid” of Nicolas Pepe after seeing him in action this season.

What did he say?

Pepe joined Arsenal from Lille for a club-record £72m during the transfer window after an impressive couple of seasons with the Ligue 1 side that saw him score 37 goals in 79 games.

He has already made an impressive start to life in England, averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.26 in his first four appearances for the Gunners.

Former Nigeria international Kanu is clearly impressed by the 24-year-old and has claimed that other sides in the Premier League will be worried by his offensive threat.

He explained: “He’s a good player. If you watch him you can see he is a really good footballer and his feet are very quick. He is going to score goals and he is going to play well.

“I believe that teams are already afraid of him after a few games. They are scared of what he can do and what he can offer. He’s a very good addition.”

Cutting edge needed

In an attacking sense, there is no doubting that the Ivory Coast international is a special talent. His goalscoring record speaks for itself, while his 3.8 completed dribbles a game is far and away the best amongst his Arsenal team-mates this term.

However, in today’s day and age, players are often judged on their goal contribution, and Pepe’s numbers needs to be at a really high level if he is to truly strike terror into his opponents.

His record in France is impressive, yes, but the Premier League is a step up in quality. Mohamed Salah and Raheem Sterling, players who are deployed in similar positions on the flanks as Pepe, already have five goals and/or assists this term. The Arsenal man has just one of the latter.

It is not as though he has not had the opportunity to get on the scoresheet. He should really have netted against Liverpool in the first half when one-on-one with Adrian, but his shot was too easy for the goalkeeper to save. His end product in that match was generally poor, failing to complete any of the four crosses he attempted.

There have been flashes of brilliance, but he has not yet done enough to warrant such high praise. If he wants to become one of the most dangerous players in the division, his contributions will need to be more concrete.

ذكرت صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو” الكتالونية مدافع الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي ريال مدريد، سيرجيو راموس، بما فعله مع جناح ليفربول، محمد صلاح، في نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا لموسم 2017/2018، بعد واقعة مباراة إلتشي في الدوري الإسباني.

والتقطت الكاميرات حديث راموس لحكم مباراة إلتشي بعد احتكاك بينه وبين، ماركوني، داخل منطقة الجزاء، وقال مدافع ريال مدريد للحكم: “ضربة جزاء، اللعنة! انظر إليها، ركلة جزاء واضحة جدًا لي! إذا لم يكسر ذراعي فهي معجزة، سأبقى هنا (داخل منطقة الجزاء) لأسددها”.

ومن هنا ربطت الصحيفة الكتالونية ما حدث مع راموس بما قام به قبل 3 سنوات تقريبًا مع، محمد صلاح، حيث أصاب المصري الدولي في ذراعه وأجبره على مغادرة نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا بالدموع في الدقيقة 24.

وتلقى راموس سيل من الانتقادات الشديدة بعد نهاية المباراة، واتهمه البعض بقصد إيذاء محمد صلاح ولكن مدافع ريال مدريد خرج وحاول تبرئة نفسه من الأمر والتقليل من ضخامة ما فعله، وقال: “عندما أفعل شيئًا، فالجميع يبالغ في رد الفعل رغم أنه من أمسك ذراعي وسقط على الجانب الآخر”.

الجدير بالذكر أن راموس قد أتُهم في نفس المباراة بضرب حارس ليفربول السابق، لوريس كاريوس، في رأسه مما أدى إصابته برضوض في المخ كما أظهرت نتائج التحاليل بعد نهاية المباراة.

الجدير بالذكر أن زيدان قد عاد إلى ريال مدريد مرة أخرى في مارس عام 2019 بعد رحيله في صيف 2018 ونجح في الفوز ببطولة الدوري الإسباني الموسم الماضي مع كأس السوبر.

Even when Leeds lose or drop points, the Whites seem to have someone that continues to deliver on a consistent basis.

One of them is Kalvin Phillips, who recently earned a new deal at Elland Road, while Ben White is the other.

He has been a pillar of solidity, a player who has more than made up for the absence of Pontus Jansson.

The Swede left behind a colossal void during the off-season. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2018/19 but left for pastures new as White was his replacement.

Concerns still lie at set-pieces, where Leeds have conceded three of their five Championship strikes, but White has still looked composed and was again one of their best players on Saturday.

For one of the first times this term, Marcelo Bielsa’s men conceded relatively early – something that’s become somewhat of a rarity after late goals versus Derby, Swansea and Nottingham Forest.

Therefore, a different test presented itself, one where the Whites had to come back.

They ultimately failed to do that but it didn’t stop White from turning in another outstanding display.

Leeds weren’t exactly under the cosh but even during concerning times for Bielsa, the 21-year-old is his bridge over troubled water.

He continues to be the positive and someone that could well help Leeds to promotion, certainly if he carries on in the way he has been.

He won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for August and has won a mighty 3.6 interceptions per game.

That was one of his weakest aspects against Charlton, achieving just two, but he was imperious in the tackle and strong in the air – winning ten duels over the two combined.

In terms of successful challenges, he made just one less than the rest of the defence put together while only skipper Liam Cooper won more headed duels.

The Scot offered a sense of perspective after the game, claiming that this defeat wouldn’t define their season.

He is quite right too, especially with someone like White at the back.
