Aston Villa are in pole position to sign Brentford No.9 Neal Maupay, according to Alan Nixon.

Villa have already bought in Wesley, though this seemingly hasn’t prevented them from chasing another striker.

While they are currently the front runners to secure the Frenchman’s signature, they could face competition from West Ham United, Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion, according to Football Insider.

Neal Maupay was prolific last season, scoring 28 goals in 46 starts and three substitute appearances across all competitions, while he also added eight assists.

The goals he scored came in an impressively diverse manner, with some being easy on the eye – with one example coming against Villa – while others came courtesy of predatory and instinctive finishes.

He also highlighted he can bring others into the game, executing 1.3 key passes per match and at 22-years-old there is still room for development in his game.

While this would be an exciting move for Villa, it has to be questioned whether the move is completely necessary at this stage.

They have just spent big on Wesley, so if they continue to play with one main striker as they did for large parts of last season (as shown on WhoScored), signing Maupay may not send the best message to their new man.

In addition, there is also Jonathan Kodjia who will be hoping for his chance to play – if Maupay does join, Dean Smith may need to change his formation if he is to keep all of his main strikers content.

There are positions such as goalkeeper they are trying to improve, as indicated by The Daily Mail’s report on their Martin Dubravka interest, so they could be better off spending the money on those positions.

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Wales international Dean Saunders has suggested Manchester United’s players will get Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked next season.

What did he say?

In a summer that has seen the Red Devils overwhelmed with questions surrounding most of their first-team stars, there is seemingly an uncertainty building as to what the future holds at Old Trafford.

The sagas involving Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku have dominated the headlines in recent weeks amid potential moves away for the pair, and Saunders believes Solskjaer walked into a “mess” when he took over from Jose Mourinho.

He said: “I just think he’s walked into a mess and he’s got such a difficult job. These players have just got Mourinho the sack and if Solskjaer doesn’t get his own players on the pitch they’ll get him the sack, and he knows that.

“He knows if he keeps on with these players and doesn’t change the personnel, he’ll get sacked. I think he needs some help, you’ve got to write some cheques and get the job done, get the people you want out the building out as quick as possible.”

An inevitable end for Solskjaer?

Make no mistake, this summer certainly seems to have all the hallmarks of being a potentially crucial period in the context of United’s immediate future. Whilst the club have brought in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Solskjaer has publicly admitted the side still needs strengthening and is also having to contend with two of his most high-profile players seemingly wanting out.

The club, and to an extent, the culture inside it, has needed changing for a number of years. Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure left a hole that is just getting bigger by the day. Where once it would have been the players who would be given the boot, now it’s the managers.

The absence of Ferguson’s authoritative presence has given the United squad free rein when it comes to doing what they want; when someone like Mourinho came along to challenge them head on, it was the Champions League winning manager who lost out.

And that’s perhaps why Saunders’ comments ring ever so true. If the next few weeks don’t produce the kind of profile of signings Solskjaer wants and he is also left with the likes of Pogba and Lukaku in his squad, then the Norwegian’s time at Old Trafford could very well be over sooner rather than later.

James Tavernier missed a 70th-minute penalty with the game at 2-0, the captain sent Progres keeper Sebastien Flauss the wrong way but saw his effort hit the post. Later on, Ryan Jack saw his goal chalked off after a flick from Jermain Defoe led the linesman to raise his flag for offside.

كونتي صرح بعد المباراة، أن الحكم الرابع شهد وسمع ما حدث طوال المباراة، من رئيسه السابق في يوفنتوس أندريا أنيلي “طالع التفاصيل”

وحسب ما أفاد موقع “فوتبول إيطاليا” أن علاقة كونتي وأنيلي انهارت منذ صيف 2014، عندما استقال أنطونيو قبل أيام قليلة من بداية الموسم، بعد الفوز بـ 3 ألقاب في الدوري الإيطالي.

من المنتظر أن يصدر القاضي الحكم بعد انتهاء مباراة نابولي وأتلانتا اليوم الأربعاء.

Crystal Palace have told Everton that they will have to pay £65m in one lump sum if they are to sign Wilfried Zaha prior to Thursday’s transfer deadline, sources have told Football FanCast.

The Toffees have been chasing Zaha throughout the summer and there is now a hope that a deal can be brokered prior to the closure of the window this week.

However, Palace are standing firm in their demand that the entire fee must be paid up front and in full.

Everton have already made a £65m bid for Zaha but the structure of the deal is yet to be agreed and Palace are standing firm in their insistence that the entire fee must be paid up front and in full.

The Eagles, of course, have already sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka in this transfer window, receiving £50m from Manchester United for the right-back.

Selling Zaha would see them make a total of £115m from two players in one window.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Toffees will be able to match the Eagles’ demand that there are no instalments involved in the deal.

Various reports have claimed that United negotiated a deal that would allow them to pay for Wan-Bissaka in stages – the BBC claim that £45m was to be paid up front, with £5m in add-ons – but there is said to be little desire at Selhurst Park for that scenario to be repeated.

Nevertheless, this is a change of tack from the Eagles, who have previously warned suitors off Zaha.

Arsenal were heavily linked with an interest at the beginning of the summer but were reportedly quoted around £100m, while Everton were also initially rebuffed when they first made an enquiry, per sources.

Persistence, though, may have paid off, particularly if the Toffees are capable of handing over such a high figure in one go.

Everton, of course, have spent big already this summer, signing Moise Kean from Juventus, Andre Gomes from Barcelona, Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz and Fabian Delph from Manchester City, while also acquiring goalkeeper Jonas Lossl on a free transfer from relegated Huddersfield Town.

They have spent around £78m on their five new signings and a deal for Zaha would see their spending balloon to over £140m.

Ironically, Palace host Everton on Saturday as both sides get their 2019/20 campaigns underway.

It remains to be seen which side Zaha will be on.
