The EFL have finally come to a decision over how they will deal with Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds and the ‘Spygate’ controversy and, amid fears that they would throw the book at the Midlands outfit, the £200,000 fine which they have been dealt will surely come as a huge relief.

Many surely felt that a points deduction was on the cards after Bielsa admitted to sending a member of staff to each of his side’s opponents’ training ground to gather information prior to games, having been caught doing so by Derby in January.

Along with the pretty manageable fine, the Elland Road outfit have also been handed a formal reprimand from the EFL, which will carry a rule that forbids clubs from going to another’s training ground within 72 hours before a game unless they are invited to do so.

While there is no law against conducting such investigation into your opponents’ tactics, the EFL have found that the Whites have breached rules regarding treating teams with “good faith” and that their doing so “fell significantly short of the standards expected” and it “must not be repeated”.

The decision has been met with mixed reaction on social media, with some Leeds fans of the belief that any punishment is ridiculous considering there were no specific rules broken, while others are simply glad the saga is over and that their promotion push can continue without the controversy looming over them…

ومن المقرر أن يواجه الأهلي نظيره الوداد المغربي في منتصف شهر أكتوبر المقبل ضمن مواجهات نصف نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وتابع: “اعتدت على الفريق، البدايات دائما ليست سهلة، واعرف الآن ما يجب عليّ فعله، هي فقط البداية كانت صعبة وبمجرد أن أعتاد على كل شئ أعرف ما عليّ فعله جيدا”.

Mohamed Diame is closing in on a new contract at Newcastle United, according to Chronicle Live.

The midfielder has started 22 games this season and, per the aforementioned report, is subsequently close to triggering a clause in his contract that would see him extend his stay at St James’ Park.

As it stands, his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Diame signed a new contract at the Magpies in 2016.

Chronicle Liver report, however, that he would like to have a longer deal at the club, with his hope being that he can stay at the club until 2021.

Diame joined Newcastle three years ago and has since made 96 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إنجليزية آخر تطورات مستقبل لاعب فريق آرسنال، ماتيو جندوزي، مع النادي الإنجليزي في ظل تهميشه من قِبل المدرب مايكل أرتيتا.

ولم يشارك اللاعب الفرنسي في أي مباراة مع آرسنال منذ اعتدائه على لاعب برايتون نيل موباي، في يونيو الماضي.

ورغم أن جندوزي لم يُعاقب من الاتحاد الإنجليزي لكرة القدم إلا أن أرتيتا قرر عدم مشاركته في أي مباراة، منذ ذلك الوقت.

وارتبط جندوزي، أكثر من مرة، بخطوة الرحيل عن آرسنال في موسم الانتقالات الصيفي الحالي حيث يتواجد على رادار باريس سان جيرمان وأتلتيكو مدريد وغيرهم.

وحسب صحيفة “ستاندرد” الإنجليزية، فإن جندوزي لم يقدم أي طلب رسمي لإدارة آرسنال من أجل السماح برحيله عن النادي، هذا الصيف.

وسبق أن ذكرت تقارير أن جندوزي طلب من مسؤولي آرسنال السماح بمغادرته ملعب الإمارات.

ولكن “ستاندرد” أكدت أن ذلك الأمر ليس صحيحًا، حيث إن جندوزي لم يطلب هذا الأمر من إدارة آرسنال.

Everton’s pursuit of Thomas Meunier has been dealt a hammer-blow this week, with the Belgian expressing his happiness at current club PSG. Back t0 the drawing board for the Toffees, then, who are in desperate need of a new right-back to replace the waning Seamus Coleman.

What’s the word?

Well, speaking to French publication Le Parisien (via Le 10Sport), the defender said:

“I’m happy here, I love the city and the club.

“Is there anything about my situation in Paris? It’s football. I still have a contract until 2020.

“I am delighted here, I really love the city and the club. Probabilities, at the beginning of my career, were 0.0001% that I play one day for PSG. I have no reason to complain in reality.”

The 27-year-old has been in and out of the side this season as he vies for a starting berth with Dani Alves, although he knows that this is the reality when you are playing for one of Europe’s top clubs:

“I have play time, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. You have to take life philosophically. What happens to me here is simply unexpected.”

The 36-cap international was linked with a move to Goodison Park in the final days of the January transfer window but a move never materialised and it now doesn’t look likely in the summer either.

Back to square one for the Toffees

Despite an active summer transfer window in which Everton revamped their defence as Marco Silva took the helm – the Goodison Park outfit brought in Kurt Zouma, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne to name but a few – the Toffees are still struggling at the back.

Having been a faithful servant to the Merseyside outfit over the years, Coleman deserves to be a regular starter but, unfortunately for the Irishman, he has fallen off this season and is no longer capable of getting up and down the right flank in the ways he used to.

At 30, the former Cork City man is far from the high-tempo, flying full-back he established himself as being in recent years and it is no wonder that Everton were seemingly keen to find a long-term replacement.

Meunier’s physicality and Champions League experience would have undoubtedly been massive assets for Everton but it would seem that they will have to move onto other targets now.

However, the 6-foot-3 behemoth would surely have set Everton far further back than a club in their position should be spending on a right-back when Leicester were able to sign Ricardo Pereira for just £19.8m in the summer. There are surely better value options for Marcel Brands and co to explore so perhaps this failed move is a blessing in disguise.

Alberto Aquilani will likely always remember the day he transferred to Liverpool as the moment his career ended.

According to the Telegraph, the £20 million man joined Rafael Benitez’ Liverpool in 2009 after impressing in his home nation for Roma.

Liverpool and Benitez really thought they had a player on their hands as well. The former Roma man was truly a quality player in Italy, his YouTube compilations full of exciting drilled passes cutting across the grass of the Stadio Olimpico to release the talent of Francesco Totti and co in the forward positions.

This was the player to replace outbound, world-class talent Xabi Alonso. The Italian messiah; the man with all the answers.

“Alberto has a winning mentality and great experience in both Serie A and the Champions League,” Benitez said at the time (via Telegraph).

“He has long been seen as a top-class talent, captaining his country at under-19 and under-21 levels.”

Oh how different things turned out to be.

The harsh reality of things is that he was a complete and utter flop. A sham; a wasted ‘talent’ who found more space in the medical centre than he did on the pitch.

The Italian playmaker managed only 18 league appearances in Liverpool’s colours before being shipped off to Juventus. And this pretty much signalled the beginning of Aquilani’s nomadic life; from Liverpool to AC Milan; to Fiorentina (where he spent a moderately long three years), and then to Sporting – a trend slowly begins to form where the quality of team deteriorated on every move.

It is at this point we wonder: how did he keep finding somewhere to play?

A move to Serie A minnows Pescara could have been his saving grace. A former ‘star’ with plenty of experience and a lot to teach, what was there not to love about Aquilani? Well, apparently quite a lot. The midfielder managed only four months at the club before being shipped out on loan to Sassoulo, who, believe-it-or-not, decided not to take up the option to sign him on a permanent basis.

Like saying goodbye to a family pet, it was about time someone cut Aquilani’s career short. And Las Palmas were the ones to do it.

Spain was the end of the road for the Italian. Leaving after only a season, he made 23 appearances for the club and created a grand total of zero assists.

Now without an employer, he is probably reflecting on his long and arduous journey through the footballing world and wondering where it all went so wrong.
