Aos 38′, o time ampliou.
A campanha
The future of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is very much up for discussion, but he remains in charge of the club for the time being. However, United are already putting plans in place should the Dutchman depart as they now hold an interest in a serial winner, according to a new report.
Berrada and Ashworth to advise Ratcliffe as Man Utd eye "fantastic" manager
Ten Hag’s long-term future at Man Utd is in doubt and the club are now considering potential replacements.
1 ByBrett Worthington Oct 2, 2024 Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd future under threat
Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has put Ten Hag under serious pressure at Old Trafford, with many believing he has games against Porto and Aston Villa this week to turn his fortunes around. The Dutchman remains in the hotseat, but it hasn’t stopped the speculation from gathering pace on who could be his potential replacement.
Current assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has been backed by former chief scout Mick Brown to become the next boss. Brown played a big role in bringing van Nistelrooy to Old Trafford back in 2001, and he believes the former Dutch striker should be considered to replace Ten Hag.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils also have Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi on their radar should a change in the dugout occur. Inzaghi won Serie A with Inter last season and has built a side that looks capable of competing in Europe now. Sir Jim Ratcliffe will seek the opinions of the Glazers, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and chief executive Omar Berrada before deciding on his next move, but Inzaghi looks to be another option the club may consider.
Man Utd plotting talks with 3-5-2 specialist manager
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are interested in speaking to ex-Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri if they decide to sack Erik ten Hag. The report states that should a change in the dugout happen, United are likely to go after the cheaper option of an out-of-work manager.
Allegri’s second spell at Juventus came to an end in May, but his time in Italy was very successful as he won the Scudetto six times. As well as Allegri being on United’s radar, Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel are also managers that may be considered, according to this report.
Allegri has never managed outside of Italy, as he’s taken charge of teams such as SPAL, Lecco, Sassuolo, Cagliari Calcio, AC Milan, and Juve. As well as being a winner of Serie A, Allegri has also won five Italian Cups and three Super Cups.

The 57-year-old has taken charge of over 500 games in Serie A, 302 of which he has won, losing just 98, meaning on average he is picking up two points per game with his favoured 3-5-2 formation. Whether Ratcliffe and Co would be willing to take a risk on such a style – one that is usually boom or bust in England – remains to be seen.

They say never go back, but Brendan Rodgers has eased any concerns amid what has been another dominant spell in charge at Celtic, having claimed the domestic double in 2023/24.
That first campaign back at Parkhead wasn’t perfect for the Northern Irishman, with the Hoops crashing out of the League Cup to Kilmarnock, although triumphs in the Premiership and the Scottish Cup ensured that the club’s Old Firm superiority continued, following the days of Ange Postecoglou.
Excluding his time south of the border – where he claimed the FA Cup and Community Shield at Leicester City – the experienced coach has now chalked up nine domestic trophies in Glasgow, with the early signs this season suggesting that haul could well be bolstered, amid a seven-game winning running in the league.
Brendan Rodgers
Excitement will also be brewing among the fanbase at the promising youngsters who are part of the current crop at Celtic Park – namely 21-year-old Arne Engels and 22-year-old Paulo Bernardo – with Rodgers, for the most part, having proven himself to be particularly adept at nurturing young talent.
Brendan Rodgers' development of young talent
In truth, the former Liverpool boss has never been afraid to throw youngsters in at the deep end, with his first stint in Scotland notably seeing him snap up a 19-year-old Moussa Dembele for a compensation fee of only £500k. The Frenchman would later be sold for £20m.
Equally, Rodgers was also pivotal in the development of academy sensation, Kieran Tierney, with the homegrown full-back making 127 appearances under the one-time Swansea City coach, after previously making his debut under Ronny Deila.
Like with the example of Dembele, Tierney would later go on to secure the Bhoys a handsome profit amid his £25m switch to Arsenal in 2019, having credited Rodgers for helping him “become a much better player and professional”.
That knack for nurturing rising stars was also the case during Rodgers’ stint at Anfield, having handed a regular role to a 17-year-old Raheem Sterling, while also prising Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan at the age of 20 – two players who would later rake in £49m and £142m, respectively, for the Merseysiders.
Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho
For all those success stories, there were, however, the odd occasion were the Carnlough native made a mistake in the market, having been proven wrong after snapping up what he believed to be his next Sterling or Coutinho while at Celtic.
Rodgers' next Sterling & Coutinho at Celtic
Amid his first season at the helm back in 2016, Rodgers did notably acquire the likes of Dembele – alongside other significant names such as Scott Sinclair – although there was particular excitement regarding the addition of another up and comer midway through the campaign.
First Impressions
What did pundits and fans alike think about their new star signing when they arrived? Football FanCast's 'First Impressions' series has everything you need.
That man was Ivorian starlet, Kouassi Eboue, with the promising midfielder arriving from Krasnador in January 2017 for a reported fee of around £3m.
Described as a ‘Champions League signing’ by BBC Sport’s Tom English at the time – who pointed out Rodgers’ success with the likes of Coutinho and Dembele etc – Kouassi was also lauded by his new manager:
Kouassi Eboue
“He is one of those young players I look at with the same feeling I had as when I saw a young Coutinho or a young Sterling. Within 10 seconds you see his talent.
‘He is one, obviously, the scouting team have been aware of. Most coaches see something in a player that suits their way of working. But there are certain attributes in a young player you can see and you get a good feeling. This boy has that.”
High praise indeed for a player who had made just 19 senior appearances during his time in Russia prior to that, although it’s fair to say he never lived up to those lofty expectations.
Kouassi Eboue's time at Celtic
From the get go it looked like it could be a tricky time in Scottish football for the then 19-year-old, with the teenager enduring a shaky first start against Partick Thistle in April 2017.
Speaking after that full league debut, Rodgers even joked that “after the first five minutes I thought we had signed his brother”, albeit while going on to admit that Eboue had “grew into the game” before being replaced on the hour mark.
The defensive midfielder ultimately ended that first six months at the club with just five appearances to his name, before going on to make just 12 outings in all competitions in the following season. His 2018/19 campaign was also cruelly cut short due to an ACL injury.
Scott Brown in action for Celtic during the 2016/2017 campaign.
Despite struggling to oust skipper Scott Brown in the centre of the park – alongside those injury woes – Rodgers believed that his rough diamond would “certainly fulfil that role” when Brown eventually moved on. In the end, it was Eboue who departed first.
After racking up just 22 appearances in total in three years – a record that yielded no goals and only a solitary assist – the 6 foot 1 asset was then shipped on loan to Belgian side Genk in January 2020, prior to eventually joining the club permanently later that summer.

Now 26, the former Celtic man is on the books at Portuguese outfit Arouca – whom he joined in 2023 – with his transfer value deemed to be around just £900k, as per Transfermarkt.
Perhaps he was merely doomed to fail from the start amid such notable comparisons to the likes of Sterling and Coutinho, although it’s fair to say that Eboue does not fall into the category of transfer success stories that Rodgers has enjoyed during his two stints at Parkhead.
Celtic thought they had their new Tierney, now he's already left Parkhead
Celtic wasted millions on the left-back after they look to replace the Scottish defender.
Tottenham Hotspur has been the home to countless attacking talents over the years, many of whom have captured the hearts of the supporters during their time in North London.
Striker Jermain Defoe registered a total of 122 goals over two separate spells for Spurs, notching 91 of his efforts in the Premier League, making him the club’s fifth-highest goalscorer in the competition’s history.
During his two stints, the former England international spent a combined nine years at White Hart Lane, often being a reliable source of goals, as demonstrated by his tallies for the Lilywhites.
However, fast-forward to 2024, current winger Heung-min Son is undoubtedly Ange Postecoglou’s greatest goal threat in the final third, with the Aussie hoping the South Korean can help fire his side into the top four once more this season.
The 32-year-old has been a key part of the first team since his transfer back in the summer of 2015, registering over 400 appearances for the club – trailing only Harry Kane in Spurs’ all-time Premier League goalscorer list.
He marked his return to first-team action against West Ham United with a goal, as Postecoglou’s men inflicted a brutal 4-1 hammering over their London rivals.
Undoubtedly, the boss has numerous star talents at the top end of the pitch, including one who has made an excellent start to the 2024/25 season under his guidance.
Brennan Johnson’s stats for Spurs
Welsh winger Brennan Johnson has certainly endured an up-and-down year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after his £47.5m move from fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest last summer.
The 23-year-old made 34 appearances during his first season in the capital, becoming a key player under Postecoglou, and posting some impressive numbers as a result of his consistent minutes.
He posted a total of five goals and ten assists during his debut campaign at the club, with one of his strikes coming in the 2-1 defeat against Wolves at Molineux.
However, the new season has allowed him to take his game to the next level in North London, but he’s endured his fair share of criticism to enable him to get to his current performance level.
Johnson was the subject of a heap of abuse on social media during the opening couple of matches of the 2024/25 season, leading the attacker to deactivate his Instagram account – but it’s seen him gain a bit between his teeth to prove the doubters wrong.
Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson
He’s since enjoyed the best goalscoring run of his career, scoring in seven successive matches for club and country, repaying Postecoglou and demonstrating why the Aussie was right to stick with him despite his poor early season form.
Johnson has certainly taken his game to the next level in recent weeks, displaying evidence as to why the club forked out such a huge fee for the attacker.
However, he’s been unable to match the tally of one player, who plies his trade for the club’s bitter rivals.
Bukayo Saka’s stats for Arsenal in 2024/25
It’s no secret that the North London Derby is one fueled by hatred from both sides, with the meeting between the two teams the first date every supporter looks for on the calendar each year.
Derby day is one no side wants to lose, offering up bragging rights to the noisy neighbours for the foreseeable until the teams meet again – something which Spurs have unfortunately already done this season.
We may only be eight matches into the Premier League campaign, but Arsenal have already triumphed over Spurs, with Gabriel scoring the winner from a Bukayo Saka corner.
The latter may play for the Lilywhites’ bitter rivals, but his talent simply has to be appreciated, with the England international registering seven assists in as many league matches so far this season – the most of any player in the division.
Saka has also notched two league goals, but it’s his chance creation that has caught the eye, completing 87% of his passes, and also creating 27 chances in his seven appearances – an average of 3.9 per 90.
The 23-year-old attacker has often tormented Spurs, registering six goal contributions in his ten meetings, ending up on the winning side on six occasions.
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka
However, despite his impact in attacking areas, Postecoglou already has his own version of the Arsenal star, producing numerous figures that are either on par or even better than the Englishman has mustered so far this campaign.
Tottenham's answer to Bukayo Saka
Winger Dejan Kulusevski has been a key player for Spurs over the last couple of years, following his permanent move to North London back in the summer of 2022.
The Sweden international has often featured as a right-winger during Postecoglou’s reign, but in recent weeks Johnson’s form has seen him lose out on his regular role.

As a result, he’s switched to a more central midfield role, starring alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison at the heart of Postecoglou’s side.
However, the switch has actually been a blessing in disguise, allowing Kulusevski to thrive with increased opportunities on the ball, turning him into a chance-creating monster, just like Saka.
The “world-class” talent, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has starred in recent weeks, producing some phenomenal numbers in the Premier League.
The Swede may have registered fewer combined goals and assists than current Gunner Saka, but he’s registered the same number of passes leading to shots per 90 as the Englishman.
Kulusevski has also averaged the same amount of take-ons attempted per 90, whilst bettering the Arsenal star for carries into the final third – showcasing how his switch in position has benefited him in recent weeks.
His performances this season have certainly taken his game to the next level, potentially making him undroppable and one of Postecoglou’s most important players.
The 24-year-old could be crucial in the club’s hunt for a top-four finish, arguably proving to be the difference in Spurs’ hunt for a return to Champions League football next season.

The first black woman to play Test cricket, Dunkley made an unbeaten 74 on debut against India, following that up with a match-winning 73 not out in only her second ODI.She was also part of the Southern Brave team that reached the final of the women’s Hundred, ending the tournament as third-leading run-scorer.”There have been a lot of highlights for me this summer but making my Test debut was obviously very special, they don’t come around that often in the women’s game,” she said. “To go on to make my ODI debut was also something I had dreamt of growing up as well.”Another star of the Hundred, Capsey helped Oval Invincibles to lift the title, scoring 150 runs to go with 10 wickets. She was also a leading performer for South East Stars as they claimed the Charlotte Edwards Cup.”It’s been incredible, a really special summer to be part of and one I’ll remember for a very long time,” Capsey said. “To end the season with two trophies is great. It was really special to be at Lord’s… I loved being in front of the crowd and I felt like I belonged there. It was uplifting.”Holding, the former West Indies fast bowler and experienced commentator, won the Peter Smith Award – decided by the CWC awards panel – for his “outstanding contribution to presentation of cricket to the public”.The panel’s citation reads: “Michael Holding first became an icon of the game as ‘Whispering Death’, his potent combination of grace and menace epitomising West Indies cricket in the 1970s and ’80s. He achieved similar stature as a broadcaster with his unmistakable voice and his trenchant yet fair opinions. In the last 18 months, his searing words on racism and the Black Lives Matter movement have opened eyes and ears around the world. He will be missed in his second retirement as much as in his first.”Notts fast bowler Fletcher was voted Championship Player of the Year after taking 66 wickets at 14.90 – the most in the country. “You don’t go into the season thinking you are going to get awards like that,” Fletcher said. “Thank you to everyone who voted.”The CWC Derek Hodgson Book Award was given to Nick Greenslade for The Thin White Line, which tells the story of the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.
