‘A gente estava melhor no jogo. Saio chateado com a derrota. Agora é seguir e buscar a classificação na Copa do Brasil. É aproveitar as oportunidades’, declarou.

Everton make contact to sign £87,000-a-week former Liverpool player

Everton have made contact with a "humble" player about a move to the club this summer, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp an admirer.

Everton focusing on transfers after tough season

Reaching the end of this taxing 2023/24 season at Goodison Park almost gives reason for celebration, considering how much the club has had to tackle throughout the campaign.

Everton's Premier League status constantly felt under threat, due to a number of points deductions, but Sean Dyche and his players dealt with the situation admirably, comfortably remaining in the top flight in the end. There is also the ongoing takeover situation for supporters to endure, with no agreement in place yet to bring an end to Farhad Moshiri's time on Merseyside.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri.

It is now time for the Blues to put plenty of focus on summer signings, as they look to avoid a fourth season in a row of being relegation-threatened. Former Tottenham centre-back Davinson Sanchez has emerged as an option for Everton, with an approach made for the Colombia international, who is now plying his trade at Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis is being viewed as an ideal replacement for Amadou Onana this summer, should the Belgian move on, with the 24-year-old having a whopping £102 release clause in his current deal in Portugal. Outgoings are expected as well as incomings, and the Blues could lose Jarrad Branthwaite, with the England international wanted by both Manchester City and Manchester United, among others.

Everton want "humble" player who Klopp likes

According to Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness], Everton have made contact with Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo over a summer move to the club. It is claimed that "there are English clubs" in pursuit of the Brazilian, one of which are the Blues, with West Ham also mentioned as potential suitors.

Arthur Melo for Fiorentina.

Arthur could be a signing that divides opinion, not least because the £87,000-a-week midfielder only recently played for Liverpool, admittedly making just one solitary appearance for Everton's local rivals.

Still only 27, though, he clearly possesses plenty of ability, considering he has played for Juventus and Barcelona down the years, among other clubs. Klopp even lauded him upon his exit from Anfield, saying "his professionalism and ability were clear to all who worked with him", while former Liverpool youngster Charlie Hayes-Green said of him:

"He's obviously played for Juventus, Barcelona and huge teams with huge players, being around him and how he did things was so professional. He came down, was humble, spoke to all of us and helped us in the changing room and throughout the game so it was a good experience."

Everton may now accept bid to sell £50m Goodison Park star in coming weeks

Everton fans may not be happy with this transfer rumour.

ByJosh Barker May 26, 2024

This certainly suggests that Everton could be signing a good character in the dressing room, and if the supporters could accept his Liverpool past, he may thrive as a key player, settling down after a nomadic time of things in recent years.

£300k-p/w flop will never play for Man Utd again after Ten Hag news

Throughout the process of rebuilding Manchester United, plenty of enormous decisions will be made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Unfortunately, he comes into the role of the back of one of the Red Devils worst campaigns in recent years, finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag

Because of the underperformance of individuals, changes will be made in abundance, with incomings and outgoings guaranteed.

That said, there will be some individuals who keep their spot in the future of the club, with Erik ten Hag being one of them.

Erik ten Hag’s future at Man United

According to transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic, Ten Hag will remain as Man Utd manager.

The Dutchman experienced an incredible amount of criticism over the campaign for his team's poor results and performances, with his chances of staying as boss being 50/50.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

However, after looking at replacements such as Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, and Mauricio Pochettino, Ten Hag was preferred.

The former Ajax boss will now enter negotiations to extend his contract by a further year, as the new owners put their trust in him.

It’s said by journalist Rob Dawson that the FA Cup victory over Manchester City and the EFL Cup win against Newcastle United in his first season strengthened his case, as well as his trust in the youth and the injury crisis he had to deal with.

What this could mean for Jadon Sancho

Plenty of the United squad will be pleased to see Ten Hag stay as the boss, particularly the young duo of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, but one player that will be far from thrilled is Jadon Sancho.

At the beginning of last season, the former Borussia Dortmund ace got into an incident with the manager after he didn’t include him in the matchday squad against Arsenal.

The boss didn’t exactly hold back when asked why the £300k-per-week star wasn’t included, claiming that his absence was due to his poor attitude in training. Then, the attacker hit back at the boss via a social media post, which ultimately saw him banished from the first team and sent on loan to BVB.

Therefore, according to The Mirror, the English winger recently wanted to prove himself to the United faithful and have a future at Old Trafford, but only if Ten Hag wasn’t in charge.

But even when on the field, he hasn’t exactly impressed enough for United to indicate that he must return, with football creator Liam Canning saying that he plays with “no desire.”

Over his 82 appearances with the Red Devil on his chest, Sancho only netted 12 goals and provided six assists, which is hardly a great return for a £73m signing.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see a recent report from the BBC stating that Sancho will be sold regardless this summer, with United looking for just £40m.

Overall, Ten Hag staying all but puts an end to Sancho’s Man Utd career, unless a miraculous change of events occurs. His signature will go down as a disappointing disaster.

Mohammed Shami: IPL 2020 will prepare India players for Australia tour

Having played a practice match in the UAE, the Kings XI quick feels players are regaining their rhythm

Mohammed Shami expects a good contest in Australia•Associated Press

After months of Covid-19 enforced inactivity, India’s players are set to return to action in IPL 2020 which will be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. Mohammed Shami, the Kings XI Punjab and India fast bowler, believes that the IPL will tune up India’s players for the Australia tour which will follow the league.”It would be great that the Australia-bound players are playing IPL,” Shami told PTI. “It will set the body and momentum perfectly by then.”As per the revised schedule, India’s tour is set to begin in Adelaide and Brisbane. On India’s previous tour down under in 2018-19, Shami had played his part in the side’s 2-1 victory in the four-match Test series. India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia, but they did so against a depleted home side that was without Steven Smith and David Warner, who were serving their ball-tampering ban. The pair has been successfully reintegrated into the Australian set-up since and is set to face India later this year.”I feel it’s better that we are playing the IPL before a big series,” Shami said. “Apart from the IPL, everyone is also focused on that [Australia] tour. There is a lot of talk about that series. We will have a good contest.”With just three venues – Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi – hosting this IPL, travel might not be as hectic as it would’ve been had the tournament happened in India.”Yes, there’re [usually] back-to-back matches, training, travelling, that’s a bit of headache,” Shami said. “But it’s a short format, short matches, physically there should not be any workload issue. This time, there won’t be much travelling. You will have to travel just about for two hours by bus [when there is a match in Abu Dhabi].”Having trained and played a practice match in the UAE on Thursday, Shami said the players are regaining their rhythm. “It has been a long time since we played cricket,” he said. “Everyone is happy like kids in a candy store after getting back to the sport they love the most. We had a practice match on Thursday, I didn’t face any issues. Everyone is getting back to rhythm. I didn’t feel much difference [as I was bowling at my farmhouse].”Shami was also looking forward to working with the Kings XI’s new head coach Anil Kumble. “I’ve a great bonding with him,” he said. “It’s very important to have a good bonding with the coach, you can explain things clearly and it’s all about having a clear understanding.”

Nat Sciver grinds through the gears to confirm her status as England's MVP

Late flourish to highest score comes after changing focus on early boundary-scoring

Matt Roller26-Sep-2020For the first five years of her England career, Nat Sciver looked ill-suited to batting in T20 international cricket. She was shuffled up and down regularly, and struggled for fluency in the middle order: in her first 37 innings, she averaged 18.10, while scoring a strike rate of 96.96.But in the last two-and-a-half years, she has flourished. Since March 2018, when she made her first T20I half-century against Australia in Mumbai, she has averaged 34.96 and struck at 123.29, managing to find the tempo required batting at No. 3 and 4.This calendar year has been particularly productive: since the start of the T20 World Cup, she has scored five half-centuries in 11 innings, a run culminating in her career-best 82 off 61 balls against West Indies on Saturday. Throw in her ever-improving medium pace, which has allowed England to field three frontline spinners, and she is quickly becoming their most valuable player.Sciver spoke coming into this series about the importance of “going through the gears at the right time”, perhaps with a nod to her relatively sedate scoring rate after regularly having to prevent collapses at the T20 World Cup.Her innings on Saturday exemplified that change of mindset: she nudged and nurdled her way to 59 off 52 balls in a crucial rebuilding effort with captain Heather Knight, before putting her foot down to pick up 23 off her next 9, including two fours and a six off Stafanie Taylor’s 19th over.Nat Sciver led England’s rebuild•PA Images via Getty Images

“I guess I had to play a bit to the situation as well because we’d lost Tammy [Beaumont] and Danni [Wyatt], who have been batting really well so far in the series and getting us off to good starts,” Sciver said. “Heather and I came together and knew that we needed a partnership, so our risk levels were a bit lower.”I think in general that’s how I wanted to play, regardless of the wickets going down in the Powerplay already. I know when you’re in during the first six, you feel like you need to get away fast and make use of the two fielders out, but as long as I can run well and get it out into the outfield and when I do get my chance to hit the boundary. But in the first two games, I got a bit too caught up in going too boundary-focused first.”As a team, in the last game we were lacking a bit because we didn’t have a batter in towards the end. We said before the game that we wanted someone in the top five to be there to stabilise it. The 19th over was a big one, because it was easier to hit with the wind into that pocket where I scored probably about 60 of my runs, but [the innings] was a bit more tactical in that way.”ALSO READ: Women’s game fundamental to ECB despite Covid – Tom HarrisonIn truth, West Indies have not been the most testing opposition for England in this series, and Sciver acknowledged that it was important for them to continue to learn and develop in preparation for bigger challenges ahead.Tom Harrison, the ECB’s chief executive, confirmed on Saturday that there are provisional plans in place for England to play Australia and New Zealand in a tri-series at the start of 2021, while South Africa and New Zealand have both been pencilled in as possible tourists next summer. All of those series await confirmation, but the signs from Saturday’s T20I in Brisbane were that the winter’s mooted opponents will provide sterner tests.”We want to keep our standards high no matter who we’re playing, and make sure that we’re practising to play against the best in the world,” Sciver said. “It was important for us to make sure that we did the right things and got over the line.”As a bowling unit we were under pressure a bit more, and they came out with a different order, and obviously Deandra [Dottin] scored some runs again. She’s their biggest player but so far we’ve managed to contain her to about a run a ball. We were pleased to have been under the pump a little bit with the ball but come through in the end.”

Howe struck gold on Newcastle ace who’s now worth more than Joelinton

Eddie Howe's Newcastle United side were unable to replicate their impressive form from 2022/23, with the Magpies finishing the season seventh in the Premier League.

However, compared to where they were just a couple of years ago, the club are on a clear trajectory, and with a team full of talented stars, it's only a matter of time until they start regularly challenging the so-called ‘big six’.

No Newcastle fan could’ve envisaged such a rapid transformation, with stars such as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes excelling for the Magpies and playing a crucial role in securing Champions League football last season.

The club have been reliant on shrewd business to take them to where they are today, with the aforementioned players playing a huge role in the club’s recent and unexpected success.

One player in particular has proven to be excellent business for the club, not in terms of his abilities under Howe, but for the profit he’s set to make the club in the near future.

Yankuba Minteh’s stats in 2023/24

Forward Yankuba Minteh joined the club on 1 July 2023 from Danish side Odense BK, before immediately joining Feyenoord on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 19-year-old Gambian has scored ten times and produced six assists in his 27 appearances in the Eredivisie, as he looks to gain experience ahead of a potential first-team spot for Newcastle next season.

As demonstrated by his stats in the Netherlands this season, he clearly has a lot of talent despite his tender age, with Minteh having the potential to save the Magpies a lot of money in the long run.

However, as a result of his excellent form under newly appointed Liverpool boss Arne Slot, he’s attracted major interest from the Reds, with the Dutchman reportedly willing to spend £40m to secure his services this summer.

The figure reported is an obscene one, especially considering the fee Howe and the Saudi PIF formed out for his signature less than 12 months ago.

Yankuba Minteh’s transfer value in 2024

Less than a year on from his £6m move to St James’ Park, the Gambian has seen his market value soar as a result of his impressive loan stint, with his price tag rocketing above one current Newcastle first-team member.

According to Football Transfers, the youngster is now valued at €22.9m (£19m), an increase of 216% – a concrete example of the club’s recent success within the transfer market. As a result, Liverpool could significantly overpay for his services by acquiring him.

His subsequent value is higher than Brazilian Joelinton who’s now only priced at €18.3m (£15m) despite arriving on Tyneside for £40m back in the summer of 2019.

Despite potential rumours linking the youngster with a move away from St James' Park, they must keep hold of the attacker, with Minteh having the potential to be a first-team regular for many years to come.

Whilst the Gambian would allow for an easy sale to help their FFP situation, he could prove to develop further on Tyneside and catapult Howe’s side back into a battle for a Champions League spot next season.
