Everton, like most clubs, have had their fair share of dodgy transfers over the years, with players such as Dele Alli and Moise Kean each springing to mind.

However, in the case of the Toffees, a bad transfer can be what makes or breaks their season. Since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, the club have been in something of a downward spiral and have failed to finish inside the top ten of the Premier League.

To rub even more salt in their wounds, near the start of the 2023/24 term, Everton were handed the most severe points deduction in top-flight history. However, as of Monday 26th February, the deduction has been scaled down somewhat to six points.

Although these additional four points have allowed Sean Dyche's men some breathing room in regard to the relegation dogfight, they are still not performing to the standards expected of them on the pitch.

Their top goalscorer is Abdoulaye Doucoure with six goals across all competitions, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the joint second-most with four.

Although, for Doucoure, these numbers are more than acceptable, the fact that Calvert-Lewin is two behind him should strike worry across fans.

If their form doesn't pick up soon, it is unlikely that they will manage to find their way out of the relegation battle.

One player who hasn't been much help in keeping the Toffees up is that of Andre Gomes. The Portugal international joined the Merseyside club in 2019 for a reported fee of £22m but hasn't yet made much of an impact in recent years.

How much Andre Gomes earns

Any player arriving from Barcelona in the late 2010s is likely to have been on an extortionate amount of money and would be expecting similar with each new club that they join.

In the case of Gomes, as per Capology, the midfielder is remarkably the third-highest paid player at the club with a salary of £112k-per-week, behind only Jordan Pickford and their top scorer, Doucoure.

For any player, that is an awful lot of money, but for a player who has impacted Everton as little as Gomes has, that weekly wage is fairly concerning.

Since arriving at the club, he has played a total of 106 games with just three of those appearances coming this season. During that time, he has amassed a mere 11 goal contributions, which, from a midfielder, is not the sort of return you want to see.

In comparison, Doucoure, who has represented the blue of Merseyside for two years fewer, has had 15 additional goal contributions which puts into perspective how poorly he has played.

Indeed, Gomes has had his fair share of injuries as he has missed a total of 53 games whilst employed by the Toffees, but, his returns still should have been better.

How much the top players at Everton earn

As Gomes earns £112k-per-week, this salary puts him on a much higher amount than that of Everton star-boy, Jarrad Branthwaite.

The defender has had something of a breakout in 2023/24 and has cemented himself in the Toffees' starting XI, with some valuing him around a mega £100m ahead of a potential summer move. That said, despite being one of their key players, he only earns a slender £35k-per-week.

This is nothing short of incredible and shows that he earns just over a third of what Gomes does despite playing each week-in and week-out.

In addition, in just this season alone, the 21-year-old has played in more games than the Portugal international has over his last two seasons in Merseyside.

Hence, why, in the summer, Dyche needs to find a way to bring Gomes' time at Goodison to an end. It would free up some crucial room in their wage budget in order to strengthen their team in the areas it needs to do so, especially if they manage to retain their Premier League status.

The Hammers failed to bring in a new striker in January, despite their numerous failed attempts (Graeme Bailey), and that has left them with just Michail Antonio and Danny Ings to choose from after Gianluca Scamacca's move back to Italy last year.

If Moyes does indeed remain in east London past this summer, with his contract expiring soon as things stand, then it's quite simply a necessity that West Ham back him with a prolific new forward.

Antonio suffers from reoccurring injury problems and isn't getting any younger, while Ings' stay in east London hasn't exactly pulled up trees despite his more regular spot in Moyes' squad in recent months.

West Ham are being tipped to sign a new striker in the next transfer window, leading to their reported interest in Nketiah. The Gunners forward, who has made the vast majority of his appearances off the bench this season, hasn't quite managed to become a fixture of Mikel Arteta's starting eleven.

West Ham are among the suitors for Nketiah, who's scored five league goals this season, and it would appear his future in north London is looking pretty far away.

Writing on X, journalist Graeme Bailey claims that Arsenal are ready to sell Nketiah as West Ham eye a summer move for him.

Glasgow Rangers return to action after a two-week break following their defeat to Benfica at Ibrox in the Europa League last 16 second leg.

A trip to face Dundee was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, meaning Philippe Clement has had plenty of time to nurse his injured players back to full fitness ahead of the Premiership match against Hibs on Saturday afternoon.

Every match is now a cup final for the Light Blues as they aim to win their first title since 2021. The defeat to Benfica could be a blessing in disguise as the schedule won't be quite as hectic, but they still have to play ten matches (11 if they reach the Scottish Cup final) between now and the end of May.

Clement will be hoping his key players remain fit and healthy over the course of the next few weeks as a potential treble is within their grasp.

The defence in particular has been mightily impressive this season, especially domestically, and much of this is down to the solid partnership of John Souttar and Connor Goldson.

Goldson made his 300th appearance for the Gers in the recent win over Hearts, showing a level of consistency that often goes underappreciated by the Ibrox faithful.

After 29 Premiership matches this season, Rangers have conceded just 16 goals, the lowest in the top flight. This defensive stability has proven crucial to their recent ascent to the top of the league table, with Souttar and Goldson starring together.

There has been the odd mistake or two, however. During a tie against Aberdeen in November, Goldson was caught out by a long ball over the top, allowing Bojan Miovski to run through and score. He did win a penalty during injury time to salvage a draw, however.

Among his teammates, Goldson currently ranks third for accurate passes per game (61.7), along with ranking first for accurate long balls per game (5.7) and third for clearances per game (3), fully demonstrating his passing ability throughout the course of the season.

Souttar has also taken his game up another level since being deployed alongside Goldson, as the duo have wonderful chemistry.

The Englishman will hope to win another league title and the Scottish Cup before the end of the season, but the question is, how long will he remain at Ibrox for?

Connor Goldson’s Rangers future

Heading into the final few weeks of the 2021/22 season, Goldson’s contract was due to expire, with the speculation that he was going to leave for nothing once the campaign had ended.

At the start of June, the defender signed a four-year extension with the club, committing his future to the Glasgow side as he aimed to win more trophies.

“Connor is an important player in our group and we are delighted that following all of our discussions, he has decided to commit his long-term future to Rangers.” Said sporting director Ross Wilson at the time, and it has proved to be a big coup keeping him at Ibrox.

The 31-year-old still has two years left on that contract, but Clement may well be looking for long-term replacements for the former Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back, especially as he seeks to lower the average age of the squad.

The Belgian shouldn’t dive into the market and splash millions on a player, however, as he has an ideal heir for Goldson already in his first-team squad – Leon King.

The 20-year-old displayed his impressive talents during the 2020/21 season, making his senior debut under Steven Gerrard during a League Cup clash against Falkirk.

Aged just 16 at the time, he was given 19 minutes towards the end of the match, while Gerrard also gave him his league debut against Livingston during the penultimate game of the championship-winning season.

It was clear the former Liverpool captain was all for developing youth talent and King was among one of the best in his age group.

King made six appearances in all competitions the following season, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst following Gerrard’s mantra of allowing youngsters to blossom. He even started two of the final three league matches that term, showing that the Dutchman trusted him.

This experience certainly stood him in good stead ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, as he was called into action sooner than he expected.

Injuries to Souttar and Ben Davies in the opening stages of the season saw King deployed next to Goldson in what was a baptism of fire for the youngster.

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton hailed King as a “big Rolls Royce” during the summer of 2022 and the youngster demonstrated his qualities alongside Goldson.

Throughout the season, he made 23 appearances for the club, which included six in the Champions League, facing off against the likes of Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli.

Despite the Gers losing all six matches in the competition, King still managed to win 50% of his total duels per game, along with making 1.7 tackles and completing 25.5 passes per game, showing that while he was thrown into the deep end, he was more than capable of swimming.

With Goldson and Souttar thriving, plus Leon Balogun also starring whenever he has been awarded a start, King has found game time much harder to come by this term compared to last.

The defender has made just four appearances – totalling 14 minutes overall – during 2023/24, with a loan move perhaps being the most logical option for him next season.

Prior to signing an extended contract with the Light Blues in December 2022, Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Newcastle United were circling around the youngster, looking to take advantage of his status.

While the previous few months have been tough, this learning process will give Clement the opportunity to find out if King has the maturity and commitment to remain at the club for the long term.

Goldson won't last forever and King may be the perfect choice to replace him when he finally departs Ibrox.

Spinner’s new deal may increase the likelihood of Dom Bess leaving the club

وتقام المباراة بين الاتحاد والأهلي على أرضية استاد الملك عبد الله الدولي، في إطار لقاءات الجولة التاسعة من دوري روشن.

Anunciado no último domingo como substituto de Vagner Mancini, demitido há cerca de duas semanas, Sylvinho chegou no Brasil na última terça-feira, já que reside em Portugal. No mesmo dia, ele concedeu entrevista coletiva em sua apresentação e comandou treinamento na parte da tarde no CT Joaquim Grava.

Na quarta-feira, no duelo com o River Plate-PAR, Sylvinho assistiu à goleada por 4 a 0 de um dos camarotes da Neo Química Arena, pois não tinha as liberações para atuar na beira do campo. Essa função ficou a cargo de Fernando Lázaro, que foi o treinador interino do Timão nesse período sem um nome definido.

Mesmo assim, o novo comandante corintiano esteve nos vestiários, passou orientações e motivou os jogadores antes, durante e depois da partida que marcou a despedida do Alvinegro desta edição da Copa Sul-Americana.

Agora, com o nome publicado no órgão de registros da CBF, Sylvinho está pronto e liberado para fazer sua estreia como técnico do Corinthians, onde já havia passado como jogador de base e profissional, e como auxiliar da comissão técnica fixa. O primeiro jogo do ex-lateral-esquerdo será diante do Atlético-GO, neste domingo, às 18h15, na Neo Química Arena, pelo Brasileirão.
