Tottenham: £50M Star Now Eyeing Move To Spurs

Journalist Simon Jones has shared some transfer hope for Tottenham Hotspur as they eye a move for Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson.

Who will Spurs sign?

The goals of star striker Harry Kane will be a sore, sore miss this season and Spurs have been rumoured to be looking for solutions at many angles.

While they've been linked with classic number 9 options, like Gent forward Gift Orban, rumours have also surrounded the likes of Johnson – who scored eight goals and three assists in the league last season.

Reports from reliable media sources have previously suggested that the north Londoners would formalise their interest in the Welshman with a bid once Kane left, and a big draw for them is Johnson's homegrown status.

Tottenham have already backed manager Ange Postecoglou with the signings of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, youngster Ashley Phillips, defender Micky van de Ven, playmaker James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon and striker Alejo Veliz – but the likes of Johnson could very well follow them.

Now that another wide forward transfer target, Rennes winger Jeremy Doku, is on his way to English champions Man City – it appears a move for Forest's star winger may well be more likely.

However, they are set to face fierce competition for Johnson's services, as a new report by Jones of The Mail explained this week.

The Wales international forward is now attracting interest from big-spending London rivals Chelsea, who have him on their list of targets after a failed move for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.

"Chelsea have been considering Forest's Brennan Johnson for a number of weeks and the idea of loans – such as Santos – plus cash to secure the Wales international appeals to some staff at the club," wrote Jones.

However, in a boost for Postecoglou and Spurs, Johnson may actually prefer a move to north London.

"The winger is rated at £50m and has strong interest from Tottenham and West Ham," explained Jones further.

"Paramount to his decision, should a fee be agreed, is the amount of playing time he receives. The 22-year-old is understood to prefer Tottenham for that reason so Chelsea's path is not so clear cut."

How good is Brennan Johnson?

Barring his eleven goal contributions in the league last term, Johnson has been showered with praise by those who have worked with him.

Indeed, Wales boss Robert Page has been mindful of the attacker's potential for quite some time, commenting on his ability all the way back in early 2022.

"Brennan could potentially have had a move in January,” said Page that year.

“But he decided to stay because he’s at a club where he was going to play and enjoy his football.

“That speaks volumes about him. He didn’t go chasing the money. He’s almost the finished article now and Forest have got a wonderful player on their hands.

“I’ve been to watch him a few times and he’s playing with freedom. He’s really enjoying his football."

Pundit Roy Keane also told ITV (via Nottinghamshire Live) last year that Johnson is a "very talented" player.

Sparkling Miller leads 10-wicket rout of Windward Islands

Jamaica captain Nikita Miller took a 13-wicket match haul and put on a ninth-wicket partnership of 141 runs with Fabian Allen as Jamaica wrapped up their second win in five matches

ESPNcricinfo staff04-Dec-2017

Jamaica captain Nikita Miller’s 13-wicket match haul and ninth-wicket partnership of 141 runs with Fabian Allen consigned Windward Islands to a 10-wicket defeat at Sabina Park.Chasing 35, openers Trevon Griffith and Campbell wrapped up Jamaica’s second victory in five games, after Miller’s 8 for 54 rolled Windward over for 186 in the second innings. Only two batsmen – Devon Smith and Roland – got into the 40s.Smith had also top-scored in Windward’s first innings, with an unbeaten 116 after they elected to bat. However, Jamaica’s bowlers – led by Miller’s 5 for 60 – chipped away at the wickets. Such was the dearth of support for Smith that the next best score was Taryck Gabriel’s 23, while only two other batsmen made double-digit scores. While Miller ripped through the middle and lower order, John Campell opened the gates by accounting for captain Tyron Theophile and Cato, which sent Windward packing for 200.Griffith (37) and Campbell (71) started off strongly, putting on 96 for the first wicket in Jamaica’s response. But after Audley Alexander broke through, offspinner Shane Shillingford nipped out five Jamaica batsmen to reduce the hosts to 209 for 8. But Miller dug deep to raise his tenth first-class fifty that complemented Allen’s unbeaten 105 and stitched together 141 for the ninth wicket with Allen that took Jamaica to 350. Shillingford wrapped up the innings by dismissing Miller (52) and Reynard Leveridge to finish with 7 for 44. But the partnership had ensured Jamaica finished with a substantial first-innings lead of 152.

West Ham: Moyes Eyeing £30m Coufal Upgrade Before Friday’s Transfer Deadline

West Ham United have enjoyed a magnificent transfer window.

The crushing departure of Declan Rice has been swiftly forgotten thanks to the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

On the pitch, it has also been smooth sailing for David Moyes’ side, who sit in the top four of the Premier League after impressively sweeping aside Chelsea and Brighton.

But after winning last season’s Europa Conference League, the club is after more success and is looking to add further reinforcements to their glimmering squad…

What’s the latest West Ham transfer news?

According to Tipsbladet, the Hammers, as well as top-flight rivals Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest are said to be battling it out for the signing of Benfica’s Alexander Bah this summer.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

The Danish right-back is reportedly available for up to €35m (£30m) and the Hammers are supposedly leading the race for his signature.

Would Alexander Bah be a good signing for West Ham?

Bah only joined Benfica in June 2022 but has quickly established himself as one of the club’s most influential and efficient forces.

Last season, the 25-year-old made 42 appearances in all competitions – this included eight games in the Champions League in which the Portuguese outfit won six and drew two. Coincidentally, when Bah was ruled out of the quarter-finals against Inter Milan due to a knee injury, Benfica suffered defeat and was knocked out.

He also excelled domestically, averaging 1.2 key passes per game, 1.3 interceptions per game, and 2.1 tackles per game, as well as winning 56% of his duels in last term's Liga Portugal.

From a West Ham perspective, Bah embodies everything associated with the ‘modern full back’ – defensive solidity, attacking threat, and stunning athleticism.

alexander-bah-benfica-primeira-liga

Currently, Vladimir Coufal is Moyes' preferred right-back choice, but the Dane massively outperforms the Czech in forward metrics including xAG (expected assisted goals) per 90 (0.22 vs 0.10), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.99 vs 2.16), progressive passes per 90 (5.58 vs 3.24) and progressive carries per 90 (2.46 vs 2.03).

Since joining the London Stadium, Coufal has amassed a solid reputation for his defensive reliability, but Bah has demonstrated he can mirror this.

The nine-cap international outscores Coufal for tackles per 90 (2.81 vs 2.50) blocks per 90 (1.63 vs 1.12), and interceptions per 90 (1.63 vs 1.43).

Moreover, for all the aforementioned metrics, apart from progressive passes, Bah ranks within the best 12% outside of Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers to indicate that he’s ready to make the next step in his career.

Retired striker Danny has commented on the defender’s accomplished profile, saying:

“From what I've seen, he's a player who does all the running. He attacks and defends very well. He's fast and has a lot of quality.”

Given the evidence above, Bah looks astutely capable of being ready for Premier League football and could be a notable upgrade on Coufal.

With West Ham facing a third consecutive season of European football, Bah could instantly become a first-team starter, whilst demoting Coufal to a valuable piece of squad depth.

Perry displaces Raj as top-ranked ODI batsman

The ranking surge capped off a memorable week for the Australia allrounder, coming on the back of her second Belinda Clark award for Australia’s women’s cricketer of the year

Australia allrounder Ellyse Perry displaced India captain Mithali Raj to claim the top spot in the ICC rankings for batsmen in women’s ODIs. Perry, who leads the ICC’s ODI rankings for allrounders, topped the batting rankings for the first time in her career, with Australia captain Meg Lanning and Raj occupying the second and third positions. The elevation in the rankings caps off a memorable week for Perry, who earlier this week wonher second Belinda Clark award for Australia’s women’s cricketer of the year.Perry played a critical role in Australia’s successful Ashes campaign, producing an unbeaten 213 in the day-night Test at North Sydney Oval to help her side secure a draw, and all but ensure that they preserved the lead they had established during the ODI leg over the final Twenty20 matches. Her performances were particularly noteworthy, given that Australia missed the services of the injured Lanning. Perry’s immediate challenge will be the tour of India in early March for a three-match ODI series, before a T20I tri-series also featuring England.Raj, who had wrested the top spot from Lanning in October last year, registered scores of 45, 20 and 4 in India’s 2-1 series win over South Africa recently. The upcoming series against Australia could well see Raj, the leading run-getter in women’s ODIs, Perry, and Lanning, who is hoping to return to action, tussle for the No.1 spot.Meanwhile, Raj’s compatriots Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have had mixed results. While Kaur moved downwards, from fifth to seventh, Mandhana leapt 14 places to the 21st position, following a player-of-the-series performance against South Africa, with scores of 84, 135 and 0 in the three-match series. The bowling rankings remained unchanged, with South Africa fast bowler Marizanne Kapp, who picked up two wickets against India, holding on to the top spot with 653 points. India seamer Jhulan Goswami, who recently became the first woman cricketer to 200 ODI wickets, trails Kapp by 10 points to occupy the second position.

West Ham: Insider shares crucial James Ward-Prowse injury update after news

West Ham United insider and 6 foot 2.com editor Sean Whetstone, who has also contributed for Claret & Hugh, has shared important James Ward-Prowse injury news.

Latest West Ham news

The Hammers, lead by manager David Moyes, have enjoyed a sensational start to the new Premier League season.

Despite losing some superstar players over the summer transfer window, most notably midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal, West Ham haven't looked back and remain unbeaten over their opening four league matches.

Impressive wins over big-spending Chelsea, high-flying Brighton and newly-promoted Luton Town have showcased that Moyes' side are building upon their Europa Conference League triumph last term.

They've been helped by the excellent starts of two summer signings in Edson Alvarez, who has been showered with praise by national media, and Ward-Prowse.

James Ward Prowse

There was a very strong case for Gareth Southgate to call up the latter player for England's upcoming international matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

Sky pundit Paul Merson called the decision not to include Ward-Prowse in the Three Lions camp "ridiculous", while fellow panelist Michael Dawson is adamant he should've been selected. Indeed, this highlights the 28-year-old's exceptional form so far this season.

However, some recent news has threatened to thwart Ward-Prowse on his upward trajectory, as reports this week have shared news on an injury problem sustained by the player.

The former Southampton star has apparently been sidelined due to a behind-the-scenes Rush Green training problem, with insider Whetstone now sharing what he knows on social media.

He says Ward-Prowse has indeed suffered a knock and picked it up on Tuesday. The midfielder has been given some time off to recuperate and recover as a result.

James Ward Prowse

However, in some good news for West Ham, the issue isn't a serious one and he should be back in time for their London Stadium clash against Man City.

"James Ward Prowse has been given the rest of the week off to recover after suffering a knock in training yesterday," wrote Whetstone on X.

"But he will return to Rush green next Monday and is expected to fit be for before the Hammers next game against Manchester City."

How good is James Ward-Prowse?

A dead-ball specialist and real asset to West Ham, Moyes will be thrilled that Ward-Prowse's injury actually isn't all that bad.

The experienced Premier League star has been performing consistently for many years now, as highlighted by ex-Saints head coach Nathan Jones last season.

“He’s been outstanding since I came in, his attitude," said the Welshman.

“My first conversation with him was 10 minutes after he didn’t get picked for the England squad. Since that moment, he’s been absolutely world-class for me. The way he reacted and the performances you’re seeing now, it’s really motivated and driven.

“He’s vital, I like to get to know my captains and have a real relationship with them, a real personal relationship so they understand decisions we make."

Ward-Prowse quite simply needs a look-in for England soon if he can maintain his brillliant run of displays, as the constant snubs are bordering on scandalous at this point.
