Arsenal name their price to Juventus for Bellerin

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are prepared to sell right-back Hector Bellerin in the summer to fund an overhaul and have named a price of £50m for the Spaniard.

What’s the story?

Bellerin is seen as expendable as Arsenal – potentially still managed by Arsene Wenger despite the recent pressure on him to step down – are prepared to listen to offers for him come the summer.

Manchester City were interested last summer and Italian giants Juventus hold a concrete interest and they will be encouraged by Arsenal’s reported willingness to sell.

The price quoted is £50m – which appears to be the new going rate for a lightning fast right-back after City signed Kyle Walker last summer – but it remains to be seen whether Juve, who like to secure a bargain, will stump up the cash.

Bellerin shouldn’t be sold

Bellerin has attracted criticism in recent seasons and there are various reasons for that. He is seen as yet another Arsenal player who wilts under the most extreme pressure.

His fashion choices and attitude off the pitch have also drawn ire from fans who see him as a manifestation of a lot of things wrong with the modern footballer – especially as his form appeared to decline just at the time when his interest was piqued by matters away from the pitch.

Nevertheless, he is a hugely promising prospect. On his best form, he can be one of the best right-backs in the Premier League and he still has plenty of time left to improve. He has three caps for Spain but he will get many more across his career.

Bellerin has come through the ranks at the club and clearly cares about it – that much was obvious when he spoke out against Arsenal Fan TV – and that is the type of young player every club in the division would like to have.

Arsenal have issues across the pitch – the situations at goalkeeper, centre-half and holding midfield are still unreserved – but in Bellerin, they have a long-term solution to a defensive problem. Therefore, selling him, even for £50m with the supposed aim of improvement across the board, makes no sense to me.

There is other deadwood in the Arsenal squad that could be sold to raise the money for an overhaul. Selling a man who could be a fixture for club and country for the next decade doesn’t seem like a wise move.

Everton fans are loving Barkley’s England snub

Everton fans are destroying Ross Barkley on Twitter, after the 24 year-old was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Jack Wilshere, Lewis Cook and Jake Livermore were all included in Southgate’s England squad for the friendlies with Holland and Italy, but there was no room for Barkley, who made the switch from Goodison to Stamford Bridge in January.

“I think Ross has just not been fit. He went (to Chelsea) on the back of a long-term injury, quite a serious one, and only had a couple of matches really,” Southgate said.

“So I don’t think he’s available for selection now anyway, so he’s unfortunate in the way that has played out in this year in particular.

[ad_pod ]

“But if he can get back playing and playing regularly I’m sure, post-summer… It’s going to be difficult for him I think to get the number of games he needs now. But we know he’s a talented player.”

From the sounds of it, Barkley is not even in consideration to make the squad this summer, and Everton fans are enjoying every second of it.

Barkley’s dream move to Chelsea came off the back of a serious injury, and it has quickly turned sour. The 24 year-old has made just three appearances at his new club, and is showing no signs of forcing his way into Antonio Conte’s immediate plans, as Chelsea struggle to push for a top four finish.

Barkley played in all three of England’s group games at the 2010 World Cup in Brazil, and made 150 league appearances in his time at Everton, but fans have been quick to forget their former hero.

Everton fans have been reacting to Barkley’s England snub on Twitter, and let’s just say they don’t sound too torn up about it…

Man City’s stunt following heavy defeat attracts mockery from Liverpool fans

Manchester City have looked imperious for much of the season and could clinch the Premier League title on Saturday but Liverpool blew them apart 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Many expected the Champions League quarter-final between the pair to contain plenty of goals but they were all one way in the first half of a match that may go down among the all-time Anfield European classics.

Pep Guardiola took a tactical gamble by bringing in Ilkay Gundogan for Raheem Sterling to add an extra body in midfield but it didn’t pay off as City were still powerless to prevent the Red tide pouring through.

A branded blimp flew over Manchester, adorned in sky blue but, as you might expect, it has drawn no shortage of ridicule. We’ve taken a closer look at the best of the reaction from Liverpool fans…

Evans ready to snub Arsenal move

According to The Mirror, West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans is ready to snub interest from Arsenal in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Evans was strongly linked with a move away from West Brom last summer and again in January, but ultimately remained with the Baggies.

It is understood that the centre-back can leave the Hawthorns for £3m this summer if, as expected, West Brom are relegated from the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are still interested in Evans, but the Northern Ireland international is not overly keen on relocating to London, and will therefore reject interest from the Gunners to hold out for a move to Manchester City.

Arsenal are expected to be in the market for at least one new defender this summer, and it would be a surprise if Evans turned down the chance to join the Europa League semi-finalists despite reports suggesting that he is not too keen.

Should Arsenal push for Evans?

If Evans is really not fussed about making the move to Arsenal then it is unlikely that the London club will follow up on their interest.

[ad_pod ]

After all, Arsenal are Arsenal, and Evans will be facing the prospect if playing Championship football next season if he does not secure a new club.

For £3m, the deal is an absolute no-brainer. West Brom have had a poor season, but Evans has again been consistent, and the defender showed incredible promise at Manchester United before leaving due to concerns over first-team football.

Now 30, Evans, who has also been linked with West Ham United, has proven himself in the Premier League, and would be the perfect player to boost Arsenal’s options in the centre of the defence.

It is promising to be a transfer scramble for Evans at the end of the season, and despite the latest reports, it would be a shock if the defender had ruled out a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Henderson could win back some Liverpool fans with performance over Bournemouth

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has had his critics over the last few seasons.

The majority of the negative views have come from the club’s own supporters, with many feeling uneasy ever since the midfielder took the skipper’s armband from Steven Gerrard.

In the 2017-18 campaign, Henderson has missed seven games through injuries, but in total has played 32 matches in all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League.

At times, the England international has been accused by fans of being too negative in his approach by passing back or sideways as opposed to further forward.

However, on Saturday in a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield, the 27-year-old put in a dominant display in the middle of the park.

Henderson committed the joint-most tackles of his team, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and also made some crucial interceptions to prevent the Cherries from getting back into the game.

The former Sunderland player was part of a three-man midfield, with Georginio Wijnaldum on the left and Oxlade-Chamberlain positioned on the right-hand side.

Over the last few months, Henderson has improved his defensive contribution, but is also beginning to set up attacks that benefit the forward trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The club captain may not have won over every single Liverpool supporter, but he is taking all the right steps to do so.

Fans react as Pochettino moves dangerously close to Spurs exit door

Mauricio Pochettino’s comments in the wake of Tottenham’s FA Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Manchester United hinted that the Argentine was considering his future in North London.

The former Southampton manager took the defeat, which saw Jose Mourinho’s side force their way back into the game from 1-0 down to secure a 2-1 victory and a place in May’s showpiece final, very hard indeed as it extended Tottenham’s wait for a trophy to ten years.

Now, Spurs fans may really begin to panic as a report has emerged from Yahoo Sport that the Spurs boss is seriously considering his future at the club – even after the raw emotion of the Wembley defeat has begun to fade – and may well make a major switch to Real Madrid in the summer.

That would be a major body blow for Spurs’ chances of progression and we’ve taken a closer look at the best of the reaction…

Liverpool fans try to get their heads around club’s net spend of £18m since 2014

The spending power of top football clubs has elevated significantly over the last few years, with some high-profile players now costing upwards of £100m.

In the last two transfer windows, the Merseyside outfit have splashed big figures on the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The Merseyside outfit spent around £38m on bringing Salah into the club from Roma, while The Telegraph reported that Van Dijk cost around £75m when he switched from Southampton in January.

The fee was staggering for a defender, but the Reds did receive a huge chunk of cash in that month due to the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian secured his desired move to Barcelona in the winter window after being pursued heavily by the Spanish giants in the summer.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds pocketed around £142m in the deal, which puts their recent transfer spending into perspective.

In fact, during a Sky Sports broadcast, Premier League clubs’ transfer spending was broken down and calculated from between 2014 to the current day.

A Liverpool fan posted the image on Reddit, which sparked a big discussion.

The Merseyside outfit have recorded a net spend of just £18m since 2014, which is a whopping £478m less than Manchester City.

West Ham fans react to latest Moyes comments

West Ham United beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Premier League at the weekend to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

It has been a difficult campaign for the Hammers for a number of reasons, but they will be a Premier League club next season.

The club’s supporters have been overly pleased with David Moyes’ work since arriving at the London Stadium, however, and it will be very interesting to see what happens with the Scot this summer.

On Tuesday afternoon, West Ham posted an interview from Moyes where the former Manchester United boss was looking ahead to the 2018-19 campaign.

It was never going to bring a positive reaction from the club’s fans, and a number took the chance to have another dig at the 55-year-old.

Moyes’ comments seemed to suggest that he was already planning to start next season at the club’s head coach, but the West Ham supporters are hopeful that is not the case.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Tottenham target Ndombele is the perfect Dembele replacement

According to Monday’s L’Equipe, Tottenham will battle PSG for the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

What’s the story?

Tottenham could be set to lose multiple veteran stars like Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele this summer, and reports in France have already identified their replacement for the latter.

According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Ndombele has ‘aroused the interest’ of both Tottenham and French champions PSG.

The wiry midfielder has been previously linked to both Tottenham and Arsenal, but the latest report makes no mention of the Gunners, perhaps due to the player’s desire to play Champions League football.

Ndombele is good enough to walk into the Tottenham team tomorrow and replace Dembele, a task that gets a lot harder for Mauricio Pochettino if he loses out to PSG.

An upgrade on Dembele?

Ndombele is technically an Amiens player, but Lyon are expected to pay the small fee to make his loan move permanent this summer. Once that’s done, they will be free to sell him on for a massive fee after his incredible breakthrough season.

The wiry midfielder is only 21, but already possesses similar attributes to Dembele, and his stats suggest he wouldn’t just be a replacement for the Belgian – he would be an upgrade.

[ad_pod ]

The young Frenchman averages a remarkable 4.7 successful dribbles per game in the league this season, along with 1.3 key passes per game, two tackles and 1.7 interceptions.

Comparing that to Dembele, the Belgian veteran averages just 2.4 dribbles per game, 0.6 key passes, 1.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions.

Of course the French league is nowhere near the standard and pace of the Premier League, but Ndombele has a fantastic burst of pace, and his low centre of gravity makes him almost impossible to dispossess.

The 21 year-old offers everything Dembele does defensively, but is technically superior and better going forward. He could very well be the missing link between defence and attack for Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham fans, would you take a punt on Ndombele this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Tottenham consider summer move for Kondogbia

According to Sky Sports News, Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia is on a list of potential targets for Tottenham Hotspur in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Tottenham are expected to be busy this summer as head coach Mauricio Pochettino looks to boost his options for the 2018-19 campaign.

Midfield is an area that Pochettino wants to strengthen, especially considering that Mousa Dembele could well leave the capital club.

According to Sky Sports News, Lille midfielder Yves Bissouma is amongst Tottenham’s targets, but the Premier League outfit are also believed to be watching the developments surrounding Kondogbia, who has been on loan at Valencia from Inter Milan.

The Frenchman scored four times and registered four assists in 36 appearances for Valencia in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign, and it is understood that he could be available for transfer in this summer’s window.

Would Kondogbia be a good signing?

Valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Kondogbia started his professional career with Lens, before moving to Sevilla in the summer of 2012.

[ad_pod ]

An impressive 2012-13 campaign convinced Monaco to sign the midfielder, and he spent two years with the principality outfit before joining Inter in June 2015.

The 25-year-old found it difficult to settle at San Siro, however, and left the Italian giants last summer for La Liga team Valencia, who enjoyed a strong 2017-18 season.

The powerful midfielder really was impressive on loan at Los Che last term, and can count himself a touch unfortunate to have missed out on a spot in the France squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Kondogbia is just what Tottenham need in the middle of the park, however, and there is absolutely no question that he has the attributes to be a star in the Premier League.
