Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Reece James "is going to be a lot of fun" under the coaching of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
Who will Chelsea sell this summer?
It's been a season to forget for the Blues as they've ended up finishing 12th in the Premier League after a dreadful campaign.
Fortunately, having now officially announced that Pochettino will be taking charge in the summer, fans have plenty to look forward to.
Of course, a max exodus is expected over the coming months as they trim the squad and some interesting names could be up for sale, such as Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
However, it would be a big shock if James was allowed to leave, especially with his £250k-p/w contract running until 2028.
In fact, insider Jones seems to think James is one player who could really flourish under the management of Pochettino.
He told the Chasing Green Arrows podcast: (36:45): “I'll tell you what, a Pochettino version of Reece James is going to be a lot of fun.”
Talking specifically about the Premier League Fantasy Football game, he added: "There is every chance we will all be picking Reece James on the first day of getting the next version of this game. I can be pretty sure that as well."
Could Reece James be the best right-back in the world?
What bodes well for James is that Pochettino did pretty well to develop his fullbacks during his time with Spurs, integrating the likes of Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Kieran Tripper and Ben Davies at different moments.
And the Chelsea right-back has already shown plenty of promise in his career so far too. Despite only being 23, he's already played 147 times for the Blues and has shown a fine ability to get forward with 11 goals and 20 assists.
What's more, he's won plenty too with a Champions League title to his name, as well as the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
However, the 2022/23 campaign was a difficult campaign for the Englishman with injury holding him back to just 16 appearances in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).
Earlier in the season, teammate Trevoh Chalobah claimed James might just be the world’s best right-back.
Chelsea'sReece James
He said (via Independent) “We are lucky to have him. He is an unbelievable player who can do all sides of the game. He can defend, get us goals and get us assists.
“It’s a pleasure to play with him. He’s definitely one of the best in the world, I’ve said it from day one. And, right now, he could be the best in the world.”
All in all, it does seem as though James has all the ingredients to reach a new level under Pochettino.
Mohammad Hafeez has been ruled out for the remainder of Pakistan’s tour of England, after suffering a calf injury

Mohammad Hafeez has been ruled out for the remainder of Pakistan’s tour of England, after suffering a calf injury ahead of the second ODI against England at Lord’s. The fast bowler, Mohammad Irfan, has been called up in his place. After complaining about pain in his left calf, Hafeez was diagnosed with a minor strain which means he will play no part in the remaining three matches of the ODI series, as well as the one-off T20I at Old Trafford which concludes the tour on September 7.Although Hafeez will be staying in England to undergo intensive rehabilitation, Pakistan’s management decided that there was no point in retaining him with the team. The likelihood was that he was going to be dropped for the second ODI anyway, having endured a barren run of form since his arrival in England. He managed 102 runs in six innings of the Test series before being left out for the series decider at The Oval, and made 11 from 15 balls in Pakistan’s defeat in the first ODI at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday.Irfan, the tall fast bowler who missed out on original selection for the squad, has been drafted into the squad following approval from Pakistan’s selection committee.Irfan, 34, was originally overlooked in favour of a recall for Umar Gul, having failed to impress the newly appointed chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq with 12 wickets in nine ODIs in the previous 12 months. However, he has been in action for Islamabad in the ongoing National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi, and will fly out to join the team ahead of the third ODI.Meanwhile, Azhar Ali defended his decision to bat first at Lord’s. Pakistan slipped to 2 for 3 in the opening moments of the match, with the England bowlers enjoying the 10.30am start and a green surface.”The start wasn’t good at all,” he admitted. “It was really difficult to come back from losing three early wickets. To some extent we made a recovery, but it was not enough. The early loss of wickets cost us the game.”But the first half of the game saw the ball come on the bat much better than the second half. If you start at 10.30, the openers have to take responsibility for getting you through the first 10 overs. But unfortunately the top order didn’t really do anything. They were out to good deliveries, but as professional players you should be able to cope with that and find a way.”But after five or six overs, there were some good shots players. The ball was coming on very well. In the second half of the game, it really wasn’t coming on well and reverse swing was effective.”While Azhar agreed with Mickey Arthur’s pre-match assessment that Pakistan are behind the rest of the world in ODI cricket – both tactically and in ranking terms – he took some encouragement from the fact his side were still able to reach 251 despite such a grim start.”We are behind,” he said. “But if the top-order had done better, we could easily have scored 300 today.”

Everton are in the market for new players as they look to put a terrible 2022/23 season behind them, but boss Sean Dyche cannot bring in new recruits for the sake of it.
That is a category Crystal Palace Jean-Philippe Mateta – a possible loan target for the Toffees this summer, according to French outlet So Foot – very much fits into.
Who are Everton looking to sign this summer?
Everton have already been linked with a whole array of players since retaining their Premier League status at the end of last month, including the likes of El Bilal Toure, Wout Weghorst and Tammy Abraham.
As the second-lowest goalscorers (34) in the division last season, behind only Wolves (31), and eighth in terms of goals conceded (57), there is not really a position Everton could not do with strengthening in the coming months – a goalkeeper aside.
Smart recruitment has not exactly been a buzz phrase around Goodison Park in recent years, though, with Everton far more accustomed to splashing out large on a flop than spending wisely on a player for the future.
While he may still only be aged 25, meaning his best years should be ahead of him, Mateta has done little in his time in English football to suggest he will provide Everton with value for their money.
How has Mateta performed at Crystal Palace?
Signed for a reported fee of €18m (£15.5m) in January 2020, initially on an 18-month loan arrangement, Palace have not yet seen a return on their investment.
Mateta has scored just eight Premier League goals in 58 appearances and netted just once in his final 30 games of the 2022/23 season. Despite those disappointing figures, Everton, Torino, Valencia and PSV are all reportedly weighing up a move for the former France U21 international.
In last season's Premier League campaign alone, the former Lyon player scored twice from 27 shots and had a shot-on-target percentage of 25.9. To put that in some perspective, no Everton attacker who featured regularly last season failed to hit the target as often.
Those problems go beyond simply finding the net, with football reporter Raj Chohan describing Mateta's decision-making on transitions as "woeful".
Mateta's numbers are very similar to those of Weghorst, another rumoured target for the hierarchy at Goodison.
Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst.
Like the Palace man, however, he has been a high-profile flop and failed to set the world alight during a temporary stint at Manchester United.
That said, the Dutchman did just about edge out his positional peer for pass completion percentage (72.9 compared to 69.8) and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (0.23 and 0.12 respectively).
Pivotally, he also scored more goals last term. Although Weghorst netted just once for United, he bagged eight in 16 Super Lig appearances for Besiktas in the first half of the season.
Everton fans may joke that any option is an improvement on what they currently have, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fitness issues proving to be a huge concern, but given Mateta's weekly wage of £50k and a likely transfer fee in the region of £8m if a permanent move is forged, they will be better off biding their time and looking elsewhere.

Abhinav Mukund’s second successive first-class ton led Tamil Nadu’s strong response to Uttar Pradesh’s 524 in Dharamsala. Abhinav, the captain, made 154 off 249 balls, including 26 fours and one six. Dinesh Karthik (73) and B Indrajith (70 not out) lent excellent support to lift the team to 398 for 6. Fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot returned two wickets for Uttar Pradesh. Tamil Nadu were still 126 runs in arrears.Five-wicket hauls from Ashok Dinda and debutant seamer Amit Kuila bowled Bengal to a 133-run first-innings lead against Punjab in Bilaspur. Punjab, 168 for 4 overnight, were all out for 271. Uday Kaul top-scored for them with 77 off 149 balls, but the second-highest was 46 from No.10 Sandeep Sharma. Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary’s 61 in the second innings took the overall lead to 315 at stumps. Seamer Siddarth Kaul was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, taking 3 for 30.Opener Akhil Herwadkar’s patient 136 not out led Mumbai’s reply after Madhya Pradesh had racked up a total of 445 in Raipur. Herwadkar watched his team slump to 56 for 3, before adding 67 for the fourth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. He then found a stronger ally in captain Aditya Tare with whom he put on 155 in 55.5 overs. The fifth-wicket stand ended when Tare was trapped in front by seamer Ishwar Pandey for 80. Herwadkar and Tushar Deshpande took Mumbai to the close at 290 for 5.Priyank Panchal’s hundred helped Gujarat set Railways an improbable target of 501 in Lahli. Bharghav Merai (70), Parthiv Patel (53), Manpreet Juneja (66), Chirag Ghandhi (60) also contributed to Gujarat’s surge on the third day. Railways, in reply, were reduced to 91 for 4 before Arindam Ghosh and wicketkeeper-batsman Mahesh Rawat (52) put on an unbroken 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the team through to stumps at 171 for 4.
Dimuth Karunaratne’s second fifty-plus score of the match – 110 off 173 balls – lifted Sri Lanka’s lead to 411 before rain wiped out almost all of the post-tea session
The Report by Deivarayan Muthu01-Nov-2016 Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsDimuth Karunaratne’s fourth Test hundred contained seven fours•AFP
Dimuth Karunaratne struck his second fifty-plus score of the match and his first Test century in a year to bump up Sri Lanka’s lead to 411 before rain wiped out almost all of the third session. His 94-run stand for the fifth wicket with Dhananjaya de Silva, which came at 4.47 runs an over, on a surface with variable bounce, countered debutant fast bowler Carl Mumba’s strikes and helped Sri Lanka re-establish their dominance in Harare. With a thunderstorm predicted for Wednesday, Sri Lanka might consider an overnight declaration to force a result. In the absence of Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal, Karunaratne was the most experienced batsman in the side. Yet, he was under pressure going into the Zimbabwe tour, having bagged eight single-digit scores in his last 12 innings. His slump could have been extended to 10 single-digit scores in 14 innings had Zimbabwe hung onto their chances. He, however, rode his luck, and followed his chancy 56 in the first innings with a more secure century in the second. He was dropped on 5 by Brian Chari, diving to his left at extra cover, on the fourth morning, but other than that Karunaratne seemed in control. He had joined forces with de Silva after Mumba had struck either side of the lunch break. Kusal Mendis skied a leading edge to the right of mid-on where it was pouched, while Upul Tharanga drove away from the body and nicked behind. With Sri Lanka at 117 for 4, Zimbabwe sensed an opening, but the visitors slammed the doors on them.De Silva was fluent from the outset, punching and flicking with typical insouciance. The shot of his knock, however, was the check-driven straight four off a Chris Mpofu offcutter in 39th over. He further upped the scoring rate when he swatted Greme Cremer for two boundaries in the 48th over. By then the lead was 345.De Silva brought up his fifty off 65 balls. His fluency probably rubbed off on Karunaratne, who grew comfortable in the second session, after being put through a stern examination in the channel outside off in the morning. Later when the seamers dug the ball short and aimed to cramp him up, he did well to ride the bounce and pull behind square. He reached the three-figure mark by nudging Cremer to square leg, and it was relief rather than raucous celebration for the opener.Carl Mumba struck either side of lunch to dismiss Kusal Mendis and Upul Tharanga•AFP
Karunaratne and De Silva then exited either side of tea before rain allowed only 23 balls. Karunaratne chipped an offcutter back to Mpofu, while de Silva jabbed a rising delivery to point to give Mumba his fourth wicket. At the end of the third day’s play, Zimbabwe’s captain Cremer outlined their plan: pin down the flow of runs with tight bowling and in-out fields. Mumba reaped the reward for relentlessly probing away on a fourth-stump line – or occasionally a set of stumps outside off – when Kaushal Silva played away from the body and inside-edged a drive to leg stump for 7 off 20 balls.Kusal Perera, batting at No. 3, then creamed his second delivery to the right of extra cover for four in the 10th over, also the first boundary of the innings. Karunaratne, meanwhile, got into his groove with a brace of late-cut fours. They put on 55 in 12.5 overs, before part-time offspinner Malcolm Waller struck in his second over to have Perera caught at slip for 17. Waller had looped it up on the rough and got it to spin away to find the outside edge, which was snaffled by Hamilton Masakadza diving to his left.Karunaratne and de Silva, however, foiled Cremer’s plans as the day progressed. Considering the rain threat, Sri Lanka’s plans could be foiled too.
Chelsea appear to have moved closer to resolving a troublesome position in what could be Mauricio Pochettino's first signing as head coach of the Premier League side.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has enjoyed the odd high point in a Chelsea shirt but has certainly not provided enough moments to justify the substantial record-breaking £72m fee the Blues splashed out to buy him from Athletic Bilbao in August 2018.
Edouard Mendy was brought in as a stopgap of sorts but he was ousted as number one again by Kepa last season and both goalkeepers' futures seem uncertain.
Amid some suggestions Chelsea could be in for Leeds United stopper Illan Meslier – statistically the weakest 'keeper in the Premier League last season in terms of goals conceded – a name has emerged that makes far more sense.
Chelsea have reportedly been boosted in their pursuit of Inter Milan's Andre Onana after the Champions League runners-up moved for Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A rivals Empoli.
According to The Sun, Pochettino is a big fan of the £55m stopper and is 'eager' to bring him to London with Chelsea allegedly open to possibly offering Romelu Lukaku and Kalidou Koulibaly to Inter to help push through a transfer.
Is Andre Onana an upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga?
Onana's final involvement as an Inter player may well be keeping Europe's most prolific striker quiet in Saturday's Champions League final, but while Erling Haaland was unable to find a way through, Rodri's strike proved enough for Manchester City to prevail 1-0 in Istanbul.
The former Cameroon international was superb throughout Inter's impressive European run, keeping the most clean sheets (eight) and making the most saves (47) of any goalkeeper in the competition.
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga
Given he is not talked about as highly as some goalkeepers on the continent, LiveScore described Onana as being "underrated" for the way he has gone about his business.
The 27-year-old is not just a great shot-stopper, either, with his progressive passing distance of 8,251 yards – the distance he moved the ball towards the opposition's goal – the highest of any player in this past season's Champions League.
It is clear that Onana is strong in more than one area, then, as he showed in club football's most prestigious competition, but just how does he compare to Kepa, who is currently in possession of the gloves at Stamford Bridge?
As per FBref, the "elite" Onana – as dubbed by Zach Lowy – outperformed Kepa in a number of key metrics last season, albeit across different leagues, including save percentage (77.8 v 73.8), clean sheet percentage (46.3 v 30.8) and completed passes per 90 minutes (33.6 v 28.5).
As Man City boss Pep Guardiola previously said in praising Onana, the former Ajax 'keeper is "exceptional with his feet", best reflected by his 100% completion rate in terms of short passes – defined as being between five and 15 yards – with all 308 passes finding a team-mate last season.
Onana was also able to change it up and play the ball long, with 0.78 completed passes into the final third per 90 minutes, which is a much higher figure than the 0.19 Kepa averaged.
Kepa has his own qualities, not least his ability to sweep up danger – the Spaniard outperformed Onana in that department with 1.63 defensive actions outside the penalty area per 90 minutes last term, compared to 0.35 for his possible future rival.
But the negatives outweigh the positives when it comes to the £150k-per-week gloveman, and Chelsea's need for a new goalkeeper is clear. In Onana, they can sign a player who is equally as good at playing out from the back as he is at saving shots, making him an obvious upgrade on what they currently have.
