Rangers: Forget Skrtel and give Tomas Kalas a chance to play on the big stage

Rangers need to replace Joe Worrall if he’s not returning from Nottingham Forest next season. With that in mind, they should forget Martin Skrtel and take a chance on Chelsea castaway Tomas Kalas instead.

Steven Gerrard is obviously under huge pressure to deliver success next season so he needs to bring in confident youngsters with a thing or two to prove. This is Rangers we’re talking about, after all. This club needs to win.

Indeed, Kalas has been out on loan at five clubs as a Chelsea academy player, and Football London have reported he wants a permanent move now.

The Scottish Sun have already said some time ago that Rangers are keen on signing him, and that’d be a massive positive compared to signing 34-year-old Martin Skrtel as Fotospor have suggested they could do. Former Liverpool ace Skrtel would be a poor-quality, short-term fix at best.

Those days have to be gone at Ibrox now. We don’t want another Bruno Alves now, do we?

Kalas has played 37 times in the Championship this season and it’s been his best season out on loan by far. He’s clearly not going to get a chance at Chelsea but he’s shown he’s certainly good enough to play for Rangers under Gerrard.

The Czech Republic international is capable of becoming a regular Premier League defender, but he has to prove his consistency first. By going to Rangers he can show he can deal with the pressure of playing for such a big club.

He’s 25-years-old now and has the experience of playing in various countries. Overall, he’d be ideal as a replacement for Joe Worrall and would be a huge step up from the links to Martin Skrtel.

Arsenal: Antony could be Gunners’ next star

There’s always something exciting about a Brazilian wonderkid being linked with a big-money move away to Europe, and it’s a trend that has seen a re-emergence of late.

Real Madrid have spent huge money on both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in the past two years and Arsenal have been reportedly (as per Goal a while ago) close to signing 17-year-old forward Gabriel Martinelli, and the latter could continue their spending in Brazil with another young, promising signing.

According to Yahoo via the Sun, Arsenal are one of the sides interested in Sao Paulo winger Antony, who has recently broken into the first-team and has already attracted suitors from Europe. While judging a player on YouTube is clearly not the most analytical way of doing so, below is a video to give you a taste of what he can do.

With a reported price tag of £21million, the winger would be a sizeable transfer for the Gunners, who only have a reported (as per the Daily Mail) £45 million to work with in a transfer window that the club simply have to get right in order to compete for the top-four next season, but Antony could be a risk worth taking.

Antony is still very young at 19 and would need time to get used to England as well as Premier League football, but we have seen in recent years that clubs taking talent young from South America can pay off, and the winger could be the next in line.

Arsenal are also a club deprived of excitement at times, and nothing will get the fans more up for it than Unai Emery splashing the cash on a teenage Brazilian wonderkid who could light up north London for years to come.

Arsenal fans, would Antony be a risk work taking? Let us know!

Typical: Leeds fans fed up of their team setting negative trends

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are fed up of breaking negative records after another one tumbled as they were defeated by Derby County on Wednesday.

The Whites’ loss to the Rams signalled the first time in 33 years where a team has been eliminated from the playoffs after winning the first leg away from home.

The Yorkshire club also became the first team in a decade to be top of the Championship at Christmas and not be promoted come the end of the season.

They have often been the butt of a number of jokes about bottling good positions, with opposition crowds regularly chanting ‘Leeds are falling apart again’ when these things occur.

It should come as no surprise that Marcelo Bielsa’s side were the ones to buck this long-lasting trend, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less for the fanbase.

Charlton fans react to takeover update

[ad_pod ]

This Sunday, more than promotion to the Championship at Wembley Stadium is on the line for Charlton, with a report from The Evening Standard in the days leading up to the play-off final suggesting that takeover talks between current owner Roland Duchatelet and ‘a group of potential buyers’ could accelerate thereafter.

The Belgian has been trying to sell the club for years but has been unable to find a buyer willing to match his asking price; there will inevitably be a lot more interest should the Addicks emerge victorious over Sunderland this weekend.

Unfortunately, the SE7 faithful have heard this all before and most will outright refuse to get their hopes up, with it being probable that the 72-year-old will still be around come the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

If Lee Bowyer’s side do indeed make it out of League One this weekend, they will need investment in the coming months if they are to remain in the second tier next season – this could be dependent on whether Duchatelet can offload the club.

Here’s what Addicks fans on Twitter had to say in response to the seemingly positive report…

West Ham’s low Gomes bid painfully naive

[ad_pod ]

Barcelona have rejected an £18m bid for Andre Gomes from West Ham, according to Sky Sports News.

What’s the word then?

West Ham are keen to add depth and quality to their midfield, but have seen an offer for all-action midfielder Gomes rejected.

The Hammers have made an £18m bid that’s been turned away by Barcelona, who are holding out for £25m-£35m for the Portuguese international.

Manuel Pellegrini’s club remain interested despite the rejection, and will ‘do their utmost’ in their attempts to bring the star to the London Stadium.

Gomes spent this current season on-loan at Everton and impressed in the heart of midfield, though his future looks destined to be away from Barcelona.

Naive transfer strategy could cost Hammers their man

The £18m bid was an optimistic one at best. Gomes has proven himself to be a very accomplished player who can mix it up with the best teams in the league, and Barcelona will have certainly paid attention to that.

Everton were able to loan him for a season, but the Catalan club will rightly be expecting a decent fee for their man and it’s naive to think they’ll budge for any cheaper. This is not solely down to their sheer valuation of the player, but also because of the average price of the English transfer market and the other potential suitors looking at Gomes.

The Portuguese star impressed at Everton and they want to bring him in as a permanent signing, but they’ll also have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

The approach to start low is a risky and potentially costly one for West Ham. It’s understandable to open proceedings with a lower bid than you’re willing to pay, but with the competition for the Barcelona man that exists, and the London Stadium most likely being the least attractive destination out of the three, it seems unwise for David Gold and David Sullivan not to make a statement by kicking off with a suitable bid.

If the Hammers are to get their man, they need to try and get the deal over the line quickly, especially with Tottenham having their focus on the Champions League final right now. West Ham’s approach won’t do them any favours, and if anything only sets up a summer-long bidding war for Gomes’ services.

Expensive crock: Leeds fans don’t want Andy Carroll

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are absolutely certain that they don’t want Andy Carroll to sign for the club.

It was recently announced that the England international wouldn’t be signing a new deal with West Ham and would be free to leave this summer. The question was put to Whites supporters on social media and the response was resounding.

There’s no doubting Carroll’s quality, but many members of the fanbase had concerns about his injury record.

The striker has played just 102 league games in his past six years as a Hammer, and with reported wages being £90,000-a-week he clearly doesn’t justify his pay packet.

Carroll may have to drop into the Championship for his next move as he has been less than impressive over the past few years, but if he came to Yorkshire to play under Marcelo Bielsa he certainly wouldn’t get a warm welcome.

I love this guy! Liverpool fans herald Jurgen Klopp after Champions League success

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to shower Jurgen Klopp in glory after the Reds were crowned champions of Europe for a sixth time – only Real Madrid and AC Milan have more European titles to their name.

I’m sure there are many reasons for the Liverpool fanbase to adore the German right now, but the tweets under the spotlight below are in reference to the former Borussia Dortmund boss singing his own version of Salt-N-Pepa’s ‘Let’s talk about sex’ in which Klopp changed the last word to six.

Has Salomon Rondon had a better season than Bobby Firmino? Matt from The Magpie Channel discusses in the video below…

He really does offer fantastic entertainment.

He has every right to be in a joyous mood after finally winning a Champions League title, having previously lost two finals in the competition – he has lost his last six finals in total, so it will have been a huge relief to finally win one.

Let’s take a look at the best tweets praising the popular boss…

Southampton fans on Twitter wax lyrical about Jan Bednarek’s second season at the club

[ad_pod ]

Southampton fans on Twitter have been discussing Jan Bednarek after a season which saw the Polish centre-back hold down a spot in the Saints’ starting XI.

This came after Southampton’s official Twitter account posted a video celebrating the 23-year-old’s second campaign on the south coast.

The Poland international joined the club prior to the 2017/2018 term but found first-team opportunities hard to come by, having to wait until April 2018 for his chance to impress.

Even then the centre-half struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League but came out the other side of pre-season a totally different player to wow both on the domestic and international stage during the most recent campaign.

Remember Fraser Forster? No? Well he’s still a Southampton player on 80k-a-week! How can have revive his career? Check out the video below…

One member of the St. Mary’s Stadium faithful compared the maturing defender to one of the greatest of all-time, Italian Paolo Maldini, whilst several likened him to a brick wall and one pointed out how good a signing he’s proved to be for the south coast outfit.

Manchester United roundup: £40m bid rejected, Oblak wants move, Fernandes deal close

[ad_pod ]

The Manchester United rumour mill is in full swing already this summer, with plenty of names linked to the Red Devils. United have already agreed a deal in principle for Swansea winger Dan James, and are now looking at other players as they prepare for the new season. Here’s a look a the latest gossip involving the Old Trafford outfit…

More needed for Wan-Bissaka

Sky Sports are reporting that the Old Trafford outfit have had a bid for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected. The England U21 international has had an impressive season at Selhurst Park, and Palace are looking for far more than the £40m so far offered for the right-back.

Oblak favours United move

According to ESPN, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is looking to move away from the Wanda Metropolitano, and would favour a move to Manchester United. PSG are also interested, but the 26-year-old is a boyhood United fan and would like to play in the Premier League.

Fernandes deal close

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes could be on his way to Manchester according to Sport Mediaset’s Pietro Balzano Porta. He claims an agreement has already been reached, leaving the Red Devils ‘very close’ to signing the in-form Portugal international.

£6m summer deal? West Ham will reportedly scout Savarino against Brazil

[ad_pod ]

According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham United are interested in a summer deal for Real Salt Late attacker Jefferson Savarino.

What’s the word, then?

Well, ExWHUemployee claimed on Monday evening that the Hammers, alongside Newcastle United, were planning on scouting Savarino during Venezuela’s Copa America group game against Brazil on Tuesday night.

Sky Sports then published a story almost two hours later claiming that the playmaker could be available for £6m in this summer’s transfer window.

Savarino earned his ninth Venezuela cap in their goalless draw with Peru in the Copa America at the weekend.

It has been claimed that West Ham will scout the attacker in action against tournament hosts Brazil on Tuesday night.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers, or indeed Newcastle, follow up with a bid, though, and the 22-year-old might find it difficult to make his mark against the Brazilians, who are bound to dominate the possession.

What are Savarino’s credentials?

The 5 ft 7 attacker came through the youth system at Venezuelan club Zulia before joining Real Salt Lake, initially on loan, in 2017.

The winger has scored 16 times and contributed 18 assists in 70 appearances for his MLS club in all competitions.

Meanwhile, he struck 23 goals in 53 appearances for Zulia’s first team before moving to North America two years ago.

This season, Savarino has managed three goals and two assists in 13 MLS matches and netted in two of his final four games for Real Salt Lake before joining up with his national team for the Copa America.

Sky Sports have claimed that the South American could be available for £6m this summer and if he impresses against Brazil then it might be a no-brainer for the Hammers.
